Ham and veggie soup

Been seeing the 15 bean soup with ham and collard greens going around. To my own, I added some onion, roasted garlic, bell pepper, sweet potatoes and carrots. I don’t get enough fruits and veggies in general so I’ve started challenging myself for healthier foods. I don’t know how healthy this is so to speak, but I’ve been budgeting and got this down to roughly $1.50 a bowl :) I am proud of myself for this.

Can I use a pork shank in place of a ham hock in bean soup?

I called two places and the pork shank is cheaper and I read it’s got more fats and collagen, but I’ve only ever cooked with ham hocks. I am on a budget is why the cheaper meat, and living out of my car/ couch surfing so I’m able to make this soup in a friend’s apartment. Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: I picked up the ham shanks and they are smoked so I am set :) thanks for everyone’s suggestions!

Condolences to Jasons family. Thank you to all firefighters for your efforts during these times.

Credit to u/BACKCUT-DOWNHILL for posting on r/wildfire.

Thank you to all the crews fighting these fires all over the West Coast. How heartbreaking and tragic and my heart goes out to his family during this time.

Ticks in town- check your dogs after walks

In Bend off of Empire. I went out to my car about an hour ago and barely brushed by a bush, came back inside and just recently found a tick lookin for some blood. I have been nowhere but work and home today.

I am fully aware winter has been super mild meaning there is going to be more of them around, but I have lived in Bend my whole life and have never picked up a tick in town, only in the woods. If you walk your dogs in the area I would definitely be checking them afterwards just as a precaution 🤗

Uhh 😩💦 Chinese food never fails

Walked 7 miles at work today (housekeeper on top floor, just another day). Got a $20 tip. Thought I deserved good food AND leftovers tonight. Chicken and beef because I’m secretly a fatass. Crab puffs because duh. That after work dab got me geeked. Now to watch a newly dropped episode of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.

Does anyone have any cans/bottles they’d be willing to give?

Edit to add: thank you a million to our community for showing up ♥️ Not only have you given help to a complete stranger but seriously the kindness y’all have shown me has had me in tears. With all the negatives in this day and age, to have so many people reach out is a GIFT and BLESSING, and has opened my eyes there are still good people out there, and the unity of the community is real!! Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for all your support and have a wonderful weekend and safe 4th of July holiday! ♥️♥️

Unfortunately my check was shorter than I anticipated and all my money went towards rent leaving me with 4 whole fuckin dollars. I’ve asked numerous times to be put on the schedule for another day and FINALLY got my extra day next week. On top of that I am waiting to hear back from another job but as of right now, some cans and bottles would be super appreciated and helpful so I can get some gas in my tank 😅🥲 would be more than happy to pick them up, or meet up somewhere! Thanks for anything and Happy 4th of July weekend!!

Curious if I could get some help filling my tank for work this weekend. My work is 12 miles, I have 19 miles of gas left and $4 to my name after rent.

Check was shorter than usual (got paid $489 and rent is $500) and I have finally been put on the schedule for another day and waiting to hear back from another job. Never have I ever asked for help but I am stressing the fuck out. I have already taken cans and bottles back yesterday and got a couple of dollars, but that went to covering the rest of my rent. Anything helps and thank you to anyone who does. May your weekend shine bright! Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

Tail? Dragging in dirt, Central Oregon area.

They’re about half an inch of width. Are they tail marks? Snake or lizard? We have a dog in the yard and I’m just curious if I should be on the lookout, no killing, just relocating if any issues. Thanks in advance.

Going to try to head to the food bank today.

Staples other than rice and beans?? Please and thank you. I do have limited space due to roommates, so I cannot take too much.

We harvested a good portion of wild Bears Head from a local forest near my town (there was plenty left, rest assured). Since it has been dehydrated and ground, would this be suitable for Staments Stack in place of Lions Mane, since it is same genus?

I would be taking the Bears Head with Azuracens that were also foraged ourselves. Thanks in advance.
