My slow draining kitchen sink was draining slower than usual, but the problem is beyond the u-bend - what to do?

I removed the u-bend to check for blockage and it’s clear, I replaced it but the water just stands in the sinks!

Anything I can do? Call a plumber? Call the local water company?

AITAH for not telling my Mum how much taking out a loan to repay her was costing me?

My mum lent me a substantial amount of money during my separation and divorce.

After selling the family home December 2025, I bought a new place with a hefty mortgage at 6.75% interest.

Shortly after that I received a lump sum from a pension fund that I could have repaid my mum with.

However, for reasons, we agreed I’d repay her over 10 years with an additional ’gift’ at the end in lieu of interest.

So I put the money into remortgaging at a lower rate which meant I paid slightly more per month to decrease the term of the mortgage! Yay!!

Then my mum gets the opportunity to buy the apartment she’s rented for the last 35 years!! Out of the blue! So, she wants her money now, not over ten years. Eek.

I get on with arranging the loan and there’s some haggling and she says to just repay her and forget the ‘gift’/interest and I let her know it’s costing me a lot because of the crazy interest rates.

Then we’re talking on the phone and she casually comments that she may need to borrow money from me in the future and I say that won’t be possible and she shouted at me until I hung up.

We emailed back and forth about it and, apparently, I am the asshole for misleading her about my feelings about taking out a massive loan when interest rates have just skyrocketed!

AITAH??

UPDATE: I added more spaces above to help the hard of reading comprehend the timeline.

Thanks for all your responses. I’ve transferred the money owed to her today. She’s still mad at me for ‘misleading’ her about the costs to me. Oh, and threw in a dig at my parenting while she was at it. So that’s nice.

What are these shoots/saplings and what do I do about them?

I’m guessing they’re sprouts from
The nearby pear tree? Do I just cut them to ground level or need to dig them out?

Do you know this cat?

He’s been hanging out in my yard and caught a mouse in the long grass. He’s sweet, but now I’m having to keep doors shut to keep him outside because I’m worried about fleas!

Is he somebody’s beloved flea treated pet or a flea ridden stray?

EDITED TO ADD: I say ‘he’ but I don’t know, he’s ginger which suggests ‘he’ and we’ve called him Bob for reasons including a bobbed tail!

Would you send your 18 yo daughter to live with her father and let her 22 yo brother and his friends rent the family home so you (36) could go traveling?

Son was retaking his A levels and working low pay jobs. Daughter had just left school after a year of A levels which her dad was supposed to be supervising. Her dad will pay for her do some training so she can get a job soon.

Daughter’s boyfriend, also the lodger, stays in the house, but brother is in charge.

Seem reasonable?

LOL - should be 42, mathed wrong!

My 85 yo mother wrote her will and I don’t know how to feel about it.

She’d talked about leaving half to me (60f) and putting the other half in trust for my brother but instead has put everything in a 125 year trust.

For background I’ve always worked and supported myself, but borrowed some money from my Mum while going through a divorce. I could’ve repaid her when I sold the family home to buy my own after the divorce, but she’s asked me to repay it over several years.

My brother is bipolar and an alcoholic who’s never held down a job for more than a few months. She wanted to leave money in trust for him because he’s unemployed and now old (64) so if he inherited he’d lose benefits.

Apparently my debt to her will be written off when she dies and the rest put in this 125 year trust.

Thoughts?
