It's been hard to stop fighting people online lately. I mostly argue about sports and politics.

But I do get something out of it—I'm writing thoughtful posts, citing articles, using context clues to cut through rhetoric—It's activating some parts of my brain that I've lost hold off since having to mainly use AI at work.

But it doesn't seem like the people I argue with are keeping up with me intellectually. They talk in circles. They dam the flow of the conversation by jumping entirely somewhere else for a few comments then suddenly they're actually responding to my first one. They throw weird shit in from left field. For example, I was discussing some WNBA event and the redditor was suddenly like "tell me who is the most attractive player". Then later when I fought them again, it's like they forgot who I was.

I don't think these were bot accounts, and always check on suspicions of that, so I don't think I'm arguing with bots. But I'm arguing with stupid people, and all I have is words.

They suck at words. I'm good at words. And this combination is frustrating. I want to argue with someone who can give it back just as hard. This doesn't happen in social media anymore.

All the writing and research and pathos I throw into the writing.... none of it matters if I'm just discussing something with an absolute moron.

I want to stop.
