Ventilated Seats

I’m a big fan of the passport, but in my top 10 reasons for wanted to move into one was the availability of the ventilated seats. I went and looked at a TSE this past week and was very underwhelmed by them. My husbands Silverado is also just ventilated, not true AC, and still blows them out of the water.

Is this a unique to this year issue? While I would prefer new, if for some reason other years had better I would be open to used. I also liked the pilot but again, was underwhelmed with that feature.

If not I really hope they improve them for 2027.

2025 Subaru Outback Factory Crossbars

I recently purchased a hullavator and need after market cross bars to bring it past the edge of the rails. I purchased the Malone Airflow 2s that were listed as compatible with my vehicle. Now that I have them it seems like this would require significant work in removing the entire factory rail cover to install, also requiring removing the headline to access the connection for the cover?

Can anyone confirm this? I’ve done a lot of googling and found information on earlier years. E trailer has a video showing the install on a 2024 wilderness, but it doesn’t seem to have the same type of rail.

If that is the case, is there any aftermarket cross bars that do attach as is??

Best mattress choice for us

Just posting in here since I did some significant lurking before our recent mattress purchase. My husband and I are larger (180 and 230 lbs). He has a lot of back, hip and knee pain. Our most recent Sealy Comfort seemed to be exacerbating his pain and causing me lower back and some shoulder pain. We’re both primarily side sleepers but move around a lot.

Based on some recommendations here we bought the engineered sleep classic, flippable, extra firm queen mattress with the essential 2 inch topper. We’ve had it about 10 days now and it’s been fantastic. We’re both sleeping like rocks, wake up without the “extra” soreness. I’m glad I went with the extra firm, because the topper provides just the right amount of cushion for us. It shipped in a little longer than their est 10 days, but they updated me midway. It arrived triple wrapped in plastic in a box, with a safety razor to open the plastic. No chemical-y odors, was ready to sleep on essentially immediately.

Will try to report back as time progresses. They have a 100 night sleep trial but I just don’t foresee having to use that, so fingers crossed!

Hatchery vs Local

Curious about your own experiences. I am a relatively new chicken owner and this is my first year raising chicks as I previously bought pullets. I’ve read quite a few things that indicate hatcheries can be lower quality due to high production and other factors, and that is good to buy locally.

I bought 15 chicks this year from locals vouched for in community groups. I ended up with 5 roosters, 3 dead chicks due to a coccidia outbreak, and 3 chicks that are not the breed requested. 3 of the roosters were sex linked, I’ve come to learn, from a breed pushed on the last minute. I’ve found they don’t want you to see the brooders, don’t let you pick out your own chicks, and don’t own up to the breed mishap.

I’m trying to rebalance my coops now, and would really prefer to source from a hatchery. Is it really that bad?

Gear trader website

Hello-

Was wondering if anyone has used geartrader website for rack or similar purchases?

I was about to buy a set of racks, and decided to look at a hitch accessory last minute. I realized that both products had the same exact description outside the name- that the box had some shipping damage, product was in great condition basically taken out and put back in, and that the were previously owned for one month.

I don’t see if they’re specifying where the product is coming from and my understanding is it could be from an individual or a return?

the exact phrasing is making me question the quality of the items description and their vetting process.

Has anyone used them before?

Cabinet Installation

I’m preparing to seek out kitchen cabinet installation.
I was hoping to find some real world feedback from anyone that has had this done recently.

I have never done a project like this, most reviews don’t include costs, and I don’t know if it’s even affordable for us to pursue.

Has anyone had cabinets installed recently and is willing to share companies they had good experiences with, rough costs and kind of materials chosen?

I know a lot will vary based on style/hardware choices, but looking for the kind of rough costs I can expect in our area.

Which Roo?

Just curious what you would do in my shoes.
I have a year-ish old rooster Ameraucana/Delaware. He’s a good rooster, has not attacked anyone, protects his girls and makes sure they get the good snacks. He’s a little neurotic and doesn’t really let you get near him but never charges anyone. He’s been a little too much on his girls but it’s mostly my fault as I have too low a hen ratio- just two (and will have 7 more when my pullets grow out).

I accidentally ended up with 2 more roosters: a barred rock and a buff Orpington. They’re only 6 weeks, very sweet, we handle them a lot. The barred rock is very inquisitive and the buff orp is just kind of a bumbling guy, so they seem to live up to the breed.

I cannot have more than one rooster where I live. My husband thinks we should get rid of my original rooster since I can’t pick it up to check him out, but I’m a bit reluctant to give up a gentlemanly rooster and gamble on the babies. I like having a rooster for when they free range for a few hours every day, but otherwise have no reason to have one at all.

Input and stories welcomed and appreciated, please!

Car trunk organizer alternative

Hello- wondering if anyone has come across anything that make work for me.

I am trying to organize my car trunk- I have a Subaru Outback. I like to keep my kayak rack attachments, flippers and snorkel, etc. I tried the traditional organizers and don’t like the flimsy sides or dividers. The ones with lids don’t have a good way to take off and on (this one flips up and stands on its own).

I purchased this foot locker from Walmart and love it, but it’s 23 1/8” long and about 1/2” too short for my kayak rack attachments- so I need about 24” length. Their next size up is 31” and has wheels, which is a bit too big but will try next if nothing else.

I really like that it has the side handle to pick it up easily to take in/out.

Anyone come across anything similar but slightly bigger, or have a favorite trunk organizer?

I’m shopping for a used Honda passport and have been perusing this sub hoping for reference to get the right model and a good deal. I am in Florida.

I’ve been surprised to see several posts from within the last 1-3 years saying they got 2022/2023 elites for at or under 30k (maybe I’m misreading something?) I’ve been looking with a 500 mile radius and haven’t found a ‘23 near 30k.

I’ve been looking for something in the ‘23-‘25 years used with some type of warranty. Ideally would like to get a trim level with the ventilated seats and a tow hitch, but I can add the hitch in later.

I found a ‘25 BE for $40.5k at 22k miles, another with 19k miles. I thought these were decent, but was hoping for input, recent experiences with buying used? I’m willing to travel, as I haven’t found any used of the trim levels with the ventilated seats within 50 miles of me.

TLDR: should I keep my Subaru Outback or trade it in for a Honda Passport?

The financial answer is to obviously keep the vehicle I have, but I’m hoping for consideration of the other factors.

I have a 2025 Subaru Outback I’ve owned for exactly one year. After giving it the “settle in” period I have found I still do not like it- mostly for the interior. I find it very uncomfortable, not intuitive, hate the cup holders and center console.

I owe $27,500 on it and got an offer for $27,000. I put $5k down on it.

I have been test driving the Honda passport occasionally over the last 6 ish months.

I recently found a 2025 Honda Passport Black Edition with the features I want- color, leather seats, ventilated seats (I live in Florida), the driver seat/cup holders are so much more comfortable. It’s listed for $40588.

My intention was to purchase a car I could drive into the ground. My previous car was a Subaru I was very happy with so my unhappiness was a bit of a surprise.

I feel my options are to:

  1. sell my car for this offer and wait/save up to place a larger down payment on a newer version of what I want. (My husband has two trucks, I work from home and could use his occasionally)

  2. go ahead and trade in my car while at this close to not losing too much underwater depth for the Honda I want. This would increase my payment a little.

  3. suffer out the three years more years of the loan with my car and then either a) trade it in then or b) sell it for a very low price to my mom who is on a fixed lower income and will likely need a new car.

I’m leaning towards 3 but 2 is immediate gratification and 1 is a good opportunity to build savings for a baby next year.

🙏 thank you for your input
