As a runner & solo dev, I spent 1.5 years building a GPS trail-recording & mapping app — would love feedback from actual runners!
Hi all! I'm a solo dev (and a runner myself), after 1.5 years of development, I finally launched GPS Mapper, a powerful iOS app for recording GPS trails and mapping the outdoors (custom grids, routes, pins, image overlays, friend sharing, and more).
I started building it from a simple idea: wouldn't it be cool to know where I've been and haven't been around my city, neighbourhood, etc. As I developed it, I looked at what was out there for trail tracking/recording; I'm a runner, so this mattered to me personally. It struck me that there hadn't been much innovation in the GPS tracking/mapping space in a while, especially in presentation & design. So I took on the challenge of building a genuine competitor!
