How do I make statues visually distinct?

Right now statues are just white versions of what they represent, which isn't a problem until you go to Ludios with a cockatrice corpse to deal with all the soldiers (white). Is there a way to invert statues, white background/black text?

Brother Charger 11 line lock failure.

I bought a Brother Charger 11 at a thrift store and didn't examine it because t was only U$12.50. Got it home and found that the line lock doesn't disengage.

Upon examination I found that the part labelled This One and And This one in the first picture seems to have been held in place with The Nut, all in the first picture. In the second picture I held it where I think it should go with a pencil and drew where the channel is in green. I have a screw that will thread the nut but the head is so small as to pass through the channel. I imagine the original was some kind of shoulder screw.

Does anyone have this model of typewriter and is familiar with the workings to confirm my assessment and know where I can get the appropriate shoulder screw?

Repositionin Kit-cat Klock eyes.

I got a D8 for not much money, knowing that it would need repair. The repair was fairly easy. I just needed to replace the rotor in the motor with one from ebay. While doing this I decided to paint the yellowed white parts, hands, eyes, and tie. Dopey me, I masked the pupils with black electrical tape and the glue was dissolved by the solvent in the paint, causing the paint to run under the masking. I had to correct for that with a sharpie.

Further dopey me. I didn't note the orientation and positions of the eyes. Does anybody know if they should be cross eyed or wall eyed before the actuator is in position.

Weird egg boiling issue

I usually do them in batches of 6-10. No matter how many in that range one, and only one, cracks and oozes out the egg stuff from within.

Why?

How many beats per second do these new-fangled silent quartz movements have.

I tried reversing one and it didn't work. It would briefly go in reverse than switch to forward. Fortunately I got a thrift store clock with jump seconds and the usual procedure did.

Anyway, the smooth (to the eye) one has two two layered stator (why the red squiggle?) magnets and the usual one on the rotor. I noticed that the stator magnets aren't physically symetrical and the bottom one wouldn't even fit, when flipped.

I realized that I'm assuming that these are the same as the jump seconds movements with just a higher number of beats per minute and diferent gear ratios.

Is that true or is it really a smooth movement?

If I'm right what is the new BPM?

I suppose I could reverse the polarity of the stator magnets. Would that work?

VLC breaks suspend/hibernation (I've never undersood the diference between the two), I think.

Whenever I leave VLC open and go away and the computer goes into suspend or hibernation, upon return, I'm not simply asked for a password, but a username and password and whatever was opened isn't. This continues to happen even after I've closed VLC over every sus/hib. Sometimes apt update -> apt upgrade fixes it.

I don't even know what logs to look at.

What's going on and how to I prevent it in the future?

Who sells hygrometers, barometers and thermometers for clock faces.

Every search phrase I can come up with returns someone trying to sell me a clock with them already installed.

Anybody know of a site that sells them for projects?

Does anyone still make a clockwork microwave overn

I've come to dislike electronics in the kitchen. My microwave just died. If I don't want to starve I need a new one, pronto. All the microwaves I can find have electronic timers and power controls, more things to break.

So I want an old school clockwork timer and a physical power switch. Does anyone make one?

In my quest I've seen microwave/air fryer-toaster oven combo units. They intrigue me. I'd love the counter space. Thoughts on them?

Does skill at stabbing with a dagger increase skill with throwing it.

For once I have enough daggers to throw them at monsters. I figure that it would be nice in the Enhancement slot would improve stabbing and throwing.

Does it?

I can't figure out how to make the contacts app sort by surname first and display by given name first.

Reversing a quartz clock movement doesn't work any more.

Years ago I made a backwards running clock by reversing the magnet in a quartz clock. I recently decided to do it again and double checked on how to do it. Everything I find says to do just what I did. Unfortunately it doesn't work. I reverse the magnet and the clock either alternates direction briefly and stops or runs clockwise.

Does anyone know why this is the case.

what's the law on landlords not doing repairs.

My AC is broken. I filled out the maintenance form on line and all I got is a pending approval message.

It's in the 100s. How long can they drag their feet?

I want to try Anne Riordan's Borosilicate [boro] test.

I have some measuring cups that have the PYREX logo. I've learned that it's not a reliable indicator of borosilicate. So I bought a couple of measuring cups from Tarzhay that are claimed to be boro for comparison. By checking the refraction in vegetable oil. It felt like the markings are durable. When I got them home they had the greenish blue edge tint.

Are they real boro?

Seriously, where to buy bags.

I used to get them at the supermarket. Now no dice, I tried the cleaning aisle of CVS, still no dice I tried Tarzhay, same results.

Who sells them?

Do I have go go online?

Some poorly programmed bot asked me to add the following irrelevant info to my post.

I have cheapo builder grade shag carpet.

Any price within reason is OK.

Star TSP won't even print a test page.

I followed the instructions verbatim, the second time. The first time I did it as root because I didn't have a sudoer account. The second time I did it as sudoer. The printer is created with what looks like the appropriate drivers.

When I go to print a test page I get a dialog with:

There was a problem printing document 'Test Page' (job 10); 'Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter.'.

In the Document Print Status (my jobs) window the job is marked as 'Stopped - Printer warning

In the Printer Properties dialog the Printer State: window has:

Idle - "File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertostar" has insecure permissions (0100775/uid=0/gid=0)."

The file is owned by root with read and write permissions and others are read only.

So How do I fix it? Should I change the permissions of rastertostar and if so to what?

Still can't get brown rice to be edible in an analog rice cooker.

I've probably posted this here before.

I followed the instructions on the bag 1:2.5 water:rice ratio. That didn't work. I might as well have soaked corn nuts for a while. It still wouldn't have been good. The rice kernels were hard on the inside with a thin soft layer.

Next I tried soaking it for an hour before cooking it with 1:2.667 water:rice. Same results.

Is the world trolling me.

\*n* doesn't seem to work correctly in search strings.

According to my Regular Expression Pocket Reference:

>*n* Contains the results of the nth earlier submatch. Valid in either a regex pattern, or a replacement string.

Yet in vim:

:%s/\(paraNumber">\)\([0-9\.]*\)\(\t\=\)\(\n.*\)\(\(\n.*\)\{-\}\n\t.*paraNumber">\)\2/\1\2\3\4\5\2\t/gc

treats the \2 in the search string as a repetion of what's in the second pair of parentheses instead of the earlier submatch.

Am I misinterperating the manual or is vim doing something wrong? Anyway how do I get what the manual seems to say I should get.
