Got harrassed in a standard romance community.

Mods don't remove this post. Just a humble request. I don't have anywhere to talk about this.

My profile on here is pretty honest and open; I ask for recs, comment on things I like and everything a person should use reddit for. Recently I shared an opinion on cruel MMCs over a standard community. Expected the downvotes, but not the harassment that came with it.

Somebody took the time to go on my profile. Stalked my age and labelled me as an Indian man (I'm an Indian woman btw) who asks for "disturbing rape porn" and "violent MMCs" and "without a HEA." They copied everything from my posts and comments.

Is this how we're trying to support women? By targeting real ones without any context, just based on what they read?

If that person would have actually made efforts in stalking; they would have seen I'm a writer, shit post memes, cats, and interact in various places. But they picked and choose whatever suited their need.

I wasn't attacking anybody. I just put an opinion and expected the typical downvotes. But being disrespectful and literally labelling and "exposing" me was what put me off.

Similar thing happened in the horror community with me. Since DR has some limitations, I went there for recs. My ask was the opposite of "rape erotica" but anyways. I expected that shit from horror community.

People care more about the feelings and morality of fictional characters rather than actual human beings.

Edit: One thing I wanted to add: if this was the opposite, that is, the non-con dynamics were reversed or I was asking for MM or some femdom, I wouldn't have gotten a reaction this extreme. When it comes to MF dynamics and the victim is a woman, only then the pitch-forks are gathered. A double standard which I understand, but despise with all my heart.

I read dark romance, but it's not really the kind of thing I look for anymore. Hence here for the recs.

Hey. So I'm an avid reader of DR and even horror. The main issue with the genre are the standard "romance" rules being applied to it. For example the requirement of a 'happy' ending. Then making things palatable for the readers and not showing the ugly, gritty realism of rape and violence.

I'm sick of the romantisized versions and the female characters developing a syndrome aka being delusional after for that HEA. Female characters having mind breaking orgasms during rape (Orgasm is realistic but not the kind that happens in here) Rapists being "gentle." No fear, or if present, it disappears quickly. Or the bad, dangerous man just softens and redeems.

I want a truly dangerous male character (abuser) and a female character who at least recognises that she is in pain, hurt, wounded etc. Trauma bonding is very realistic, but it doesn't imply complete delusion.

I would definitely prefer M/F dynamics. Rape, violence, etc, I read everything. My post belongs in the "horror" genre according to DR readers (I still don't understand why but anyways. Maybe because it's too extreme) so please recommend something if you can. I want an author who doesn't flinch from cruelty. Who doesn't water down the things in order to make the story land.

A kind of ending I've been wanting to read is where the MMC is so mentally ill that even after he wins, he cannot just think. So maybe he just kills her out of madness and then himself. It's very vague and not a strict requirement, but it's something I've been wanting to read.

Is it just torture porn?

I miss when dark romance was REAL aka when the MMC never ever was dangerous to the FMC. What do you mean we get it in standard romances? NO! I want protective, possessive, touch her and die. Is that also found in standard romances? NO!

Darkness should be around a perfectly green flag relationship only then I'll take it as a dark romance or else I'll throw up literally.

Name it horrorromance/traumaromance if you want to read that sick ass shit 😤

We'll always shame and yuck people who read about abuse 🤮 disgusting 🤢

I moved out of my hometown for the first time for university and I'm so anxious.

Moved to Delhi. It's roughly 400 km away from my home and I moved out here a day ago for my masters degree. I've never been on my own plus I have a severe anxiety and panic disorder (on meds for it. My doc back in my hometown knows everything)

I'm very very close to my parents and tomorrow they will leave and I'll also lose that security. It wasn't like I never got severe panic attacks in my own room home; it's just now I feel like I won't have my parents.

I also like freak out about death and stuff.

So right now it's my first night sleeping in the room. I have two more roommates. And I'm getting panicked again. All those disgusting physical symptoms too.

I also know that this degree is important and it's gonna make my future. That I need to get the fuck out and do something with my life. But yeah anxiety is anxiety. And I'm terrified of what'll happen tomorrow when my parents finally leave.

Please share some stories. Something to help me or reassure me. I would really love that.

I write stories which have a combination of Dark romance and Horror. Thought I'd share them here 🩷

Hey! I started writing because I felt there was a huge gap in the genre for Indian female characters and typical Indian settings. The more I read DR, the more disappointed I felt with a lot of things. One day, I just thought to start scribbling the words and from there I couldn't look back.

Anyways. Below are my original works. Slow builds, all of them. These stories are set in India with Indian characters and contain heavy themes of Rape/Non-con and violence between the main characters. I don't really think my works just fall into the DR category; I think they are also horror. Hence I use both the tags accordingly.

Pianos and Plushies

Summary:

In books and movies, when a man kneels before a woman, it is an act of submission or romance. But as Raj Singhania knelt there, he didn't look like he was submitting. He didn't look romantic.

What is this? Why is he looking at me like I’m food?

“Pari, I imagined you in this the second I saw it on my screen.” His voice had shifted into something else—low and rhythmic, like he was reciting a prayer.

He arranged one last pleat near her waist, his fingers lingering on the tuck, and then he stood up. His hands moved to her pallu, his knuckles brushing her chest as he set it.

“I didn’t know that you would look this breathtaking,” he whispered, his eyes dark as they traced the line of her throat. “You look like a golden, crystalline dream.”

He leaned in closer, his shadow eclipsing her under the bright store lights. The smell of the smoke and that sweetness on his breath was all she could breathe.

“I’ve always had a weakness for sweets, but you—” He paused, his gaze dropping to her lips before returning to her eyes. “You look like you were made to be dissolved. Like if I were to reach out and take what I wanted, there would be nothing left of you but a lingering taste on my tongue.”

A Twenty-One Year Drought

Summary:

"I’ve been waiting twenty-one years for someone like you to walk into my life. Twenty-one years of rotting in a tomb. Do you have any idea how thirsty a man gets? How the throat burns when you’re drinking scotch just to survive?

You’re here to be my rain.

You’re the interest on my pain.

Don’t turn away. Sir is talking to his Bird."

A workplace is supposed to be safe. A married man is supposed to be safe. A girl who dreams about designing Barbie houses and pink buildings is supposed to stay untouched by danger.

But life rarely works the way it's supposed to.

The Pink Tote (This is my first ever work. A hot mess indeed but I'm satisfied that it's my mess haha.)

Summary:

To him, she’s a disruption, an eyesore in pink.

Plus-size, shy, anxious, and innocent, Preeti doesn’t belong in the path of ruthless Arjun Malhotra.

She doesn’t cross it on purpose. She doesn’t do anything to earn his attention. But he targets her anyway and even he doesn’t know why.

Preeti has unleashed something dangerous. Something she will never escape and she remains completely oblivious to it.

When men like Arjun Malhotra fall in love, they do not become dangerous to themselves. They become dangerous to everyone else, especially the one they choose to keep.

These are all WIPs. I feel like I've developed a specific niche for myself regarding the basic traits of my characters and I really look forward to explore them. All of these will have a "HEA" and the bad guy wins, of course. But it's not clean and sunshine and roses. FMCs don't stop getting scared. MMCs don't redeem themselves. The love and violence always exist together. There is no softening of the dudes, if anything they just get worse with love.

One point which seldom bothers me are the FMCs getting "delusional" after some point in most of the DR to reach that satisfactory Happy ending. In my work, that doesn't happen. It's a bit complicated to explain, but isn't trauma complicated in itself?

Usually, I don't post about my works like this, but I've been in this sub for a while now and thought maybe my stories could be something y'all could be interested in :) 🩷

Age gaps and taboo where I can actually feel THAT tension and creepiness in my bones.

I've read a few age gaps and taboo stuff, they are my favourites. But never have I ever felt that creepiness which I want to feel from these books. Like I want to be able to scream, "No! Get the fuck away from her. You're so disgusting," to a MMC in these kind of books.

I won't post this request in the standard sub, because I'm shit scared of people riling up on me. So please give me your recs.

I would prefer that the FMC is not all over the dude and she also feels the creepy vibes. Any level of dark and horror is fine with me.

PS: I've read Torment. I don't vibe with anything Deathsdoll. So please don't recommend these.

Old school gentlemanly MMCs in modern romances?

I love reading historical romances just for the gentlemen MMCs and those rules and honour they abide by. I was wondering whether I can find some MMCs who are gentlemanly, courteous but in the modern times. He is strong, protective, possessive and all the good stuff combined with the old school aspect.

Soft, feminine FMCs are my favourite to read. It would be a bonus if she's plus size, but if not then also it's okay.

I read every genre. Any level of darkness is okay too. Just get me a fine gentleman 🥹

Black flag ML kills the FL and then himself because he has gone completely insane.

So a very specific request and I think I can get some recs here. I'm looking for a non- traditional HEA here. I would really like an ending where MMC kills the FMC and then he kills himself. Kind of like a suicidal pact from his side? He believes that death is the ultimate thing he can get.

It could be accidental. Maybe during some violent act she dies. Maybe some other reason. I would like that he does it because his hand simply cannot stop. He's an insane man and his love/ obsession drives him nuts.

He's an irredeemable MMC. He gets the girl. But even after everything, he isn't satisfied. His justification could be anything.

I like all the dark stuff. Non con, violence between MCs, etc etc.

Just no cheating between main characters.

Mangas, Manhwa, fics etc anything is fine.

Ao3 recs are completely fine too :)

Edit : I've included the "No HEA" part as well because someone said it's not a HEA, but I still believe that it is a non conventional one especially from the MMCs side as he's choosing to do this. I know this is not something a lot of people like to read, but I like this aspect of actually insane love which drives a person to do this.

Unpopular Opinion

Okay I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion but I really am not interested in dark romance of any kind. I like SOME dark romance and can do some levels of dark. I like mafia and I can do enemies to lovers. Like some levels are okay but super dark romance where the mmc is just almost sexually abusing the fmc or like using objects such as knives or guns in smutty scenes just give me the ick. Or just the whole degradation thing is just so annoying to me too. Some of it can be nice in a book in an enemies to lovers kind of nature but some writers are so heavy with it.

Its so unpopular that I collapsed on the floor just by reading it 😔😔🥀

Recommendations with plus size female leads please!

I really want to see a chubby and plus size woman getting all the obsession and unhinged stuff. Preferably tall and still the male lead towers over her 🥰

But if that's not the case then it's also fine. I just want to see someone who is like me!!

I don't have any triggers except cheating. Any level of darkness and even horror is fine by me.

Why are so many MMCs abusive?

I feel like SO many books with “morally grey” mmc are literally just extremely abusive then later they always have an excuse—like “he was just misunderstood”

A lot of these books get advertised as romance, I understand it can be different in fantasy but most of the time. I feel like I’m reading a bully romance where he hits her. I started Silvercloak and the mmc literally chokes the fmc with his belt the first day knowing her, it doesn’t feel morally grey it just feels abusive especially bc it’s obvious he’s the love interest. It feels like the author just wants to be edgy.

Even if characters are enemies it still makes me uncomfortable seeing the mmc beat the shit out of the fmc, at the end of the day it’s just a man who has the capacity to hit a woman. I’m not sensitive, I’m fine if they’re enemies and treat each other poorly but

I literally can’t keep reading books where he physically hurts her when angry. 🤷🏼‍♀️

(I would never read the blurb/TWs and continue reading the same books. Also eww dark romance)

Some people just need the medication and that's okay.

This is something I have to constantly remind myself whenever I see about addictions or in general negativity around any kind of medicine. I'm on Paroxetine and Clonazepam on and off for like seven years now. My psychiatrist adjusts the doses as required. Sometimes he has to change the medication itself if my panic attacks get much worse.

I'm diagnosed with GAD and panic disorder. I'm constantly overthinking. I'm shit scared about death. When I got the first panic attack at 17, I didn't even know what was happening to me. My family was horrified when they rushed me to the doctor. For a long time I lived in dread and constant panic without knowing why.

Tests and all. Everything was okay. So then psychiatrist. And only then I was able to draw a normal breath. I was able to bathe without thinking I would die in there.

I still get attacks. A week ago I was a mess and my meds had to be adjusted accordingly. I'll visit once they're over and we'll discuss.

I still end up on this sub or on something else regarding meds and the dread comes over. So this post is kind of a vent and also a reminder that I was able to breathe properly. And last week when I thought I was dying, I didn't die. Meds helped. My lovely family helped. My cat, Luffy helped.

I'm not saying there aren't side effects or severe addictions but once again, these are prescribed and under control. This is different. People would disagree here and I understand and that's completely fine by me.

Abusive MMCs.

Please don't judge, I know it's a creepy request. I've been reading historical romances for a while now. I read from a closed door (My fav is Mimi Mathews) to whatever spice level. I'm super into dark romance, horror and stuff like that.

I've already read Lemonade and loved the grass non-con but the rest of it felt flat to me after.

I'm in need of cruel, abusive, dangerous MMCs. Specifically for the FMC. A very abusive marriage, courting, I love all that stuff. Because of marriage and courting itself I love HR. But I'm open to other tropes.

MMC is possessive, violent, madly in love. FMC I prefer to be gentle, soft, kind etc.

Preferably a slow build and minimal or no body betrayal in non-con. If later it turns to dub-con then that's handled well too. I don't really enjoy when FMC is swooning, going crazy over the MMC. Can be a non-traditional HEA.

FMC doesn't get delusional to his cruelty and abuse.

I'm looking for a kind of rare thing here. Also a little difficult to explain. FMC starts to develop feelings/trauma bond (I don't prefer to use stockholm) but she does NOT get delusional about his cruelty. She does not reframe it. She is still scared. She feels pain.

Sometimes her body forces (he forces) a response sometimes not. Orgasms aren't just physical. Despite everything, there are feelings from her side. She holds onto him because she loves him but also cries when he's hurting her. She's aware of the bruises but also the fact that he madly loves her.

I want a normal human being. Clearly, she is traumatized, broken and manipulated but her general senses are alive. In most of the books and fics FMCs either become completely delusional to everything or MMC starts to get redeemed.

I don't want any of those.

MMC is madly in love of course. He is violent (both in sexual sense and even without sex) dangerous, feels deeply. All that good stuff.

FMC doesn't have to dissect his manipulation. I'm just asking for her senses to work. Trauma bonding doesn't inherently mean delusion.

I like pure non-con but I also like dub-con when it's done right. That is, when it's just not about the FMC going insane during rape. Dub-con means a lot of other things too. I hate when the label is slapped around anywhere to make things palatable.

Any genre is fine. Non HEA, horror, etc.

Ps : No Deathsdoll. No Torment duet. Please.
