BVA Remand

Seven years. It’s been seven years since my initial claim and appeal. And after having my appeal remanded back to the VA by the VLA, today I received word that my appeal was granted.

That was a long road

AD triggered by a doctor

I was at a podiatrist appointment today and I had already had one episode of autonomic dysreflexia caused by overheating, which I subsequently explained to the doctor. I told him that I’d suffered a spinal cord stroke, that I have AD…

Suddenly, he takes my right foot and cuts out an ingrown toenail with zero lidocaine.. nothing and of course it immediately set off the AD, I thought my head was going to explode, I could feel my face flaming, eyes burning. I’m home now, but my head is still pounding from the after effects and of course I have that all over shaky feeling. Not really asking about anything, just venting I guess. Ugh 😑

I really don’t like summer anymore

Heat and humidity are huge triggers for me, as they are for most of us.

But it just dawned on me as I was waiting for the worst of the heat to pass that by the time it does, everything will be closing. Since Covid when businesses discovered how much money they could be saving by not being open late or 24 hours, now people who depended on those kinds of hours are just screwed.

I truly hate it here, (United States, late stage capitalism, pick your nemesis)

Something new today

What the hell is this?

A little background; I am a disabled veteran, I suffered a spinal cord stroke during a neck surgery last year and I often rely on delivery services. I ordered new compression gloves for my right hand which has neurological damage. When I placed the order there were two items, to be delivered the next day (Saturday) One item was delivered no problem. I waited all day for the compression gloves and nothing. Then this morning this is on my account with no other information or options… simply “Was expected on Saturday”

Yes, Amazon, it *was* expected on Saturday… now what? This is so frustrating

Japanese sweet potato as a base

Basic? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely

I roasted a Japanese sweet potato in the air fryer, let it cool, then mashed it with 3/4 c coconut milk, one scoop of the protein powder, 1/4 tsp xantham gum, a splash of almond extract and (not pictured) a pinch of flaky sea salt. Froze 24 hours, spun on lite ice cream just once, no respin needed. Absolutely dreamy texture and delicious flavor.

Future mixins ideas, maybe Catalina Crunch or Magic Spoon cereal, melted white Lily’s chips, or Lily’s butterscotch chips… not sure what else but you get the idea.

LSGS

So I know we joke about the examiners lagging on uploading exams but real talk, is there any actual guidance for this?

When I left my DBQ exam for my remanded claim on 4/29, the examiner said “I’ll have these uploaded in 7-10 days” and I thought after seven years of dealing with this issue that was pretty fair. But here we are almost a month later and the exams are still sitting in the LSGS portal under completed, not uploaded to my claim yet.

So, real question, how long do they really have to do our exams and upload them? And what, if anything, can I do about this? Thanks

P Pulcher; posing with their molt

Just sharing my normally elusive, juvenile, freshly molted P Pulcher, aka Panama Blonde, showing off its fresh colors. It’s been pretty possessive of its molt this time, and I’m not one of those owners who is particularly pressed about the sex of my spood. It’s definitely nice to have females, but if I get a boy, I try my best to find him a home with a girlfriend with an owner who will try and save his life and maybe even gift me a sling if successful.

Anyway, enjoy 😊

Banana Cacao Sorbet

I took three medium sized half ripe bananas (I like them at that ripeness) mashed them right in the Creami pint container, mixed in enough unsweetened coconut milk to fill the container to the line, and popped it in the freezer for 24 hours.

I took it out and let it sit out while I showered, probably about 15 minutes, spun it once on sorbet, dug a hole in the middle, poured in some cacao nibs and spun on mix ins.

Delicious 😋

One year later…

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the surgery that resulted in the spinal cord stroke that left me with my incomplete injury. It was a rough day.

It got me wondering how others felt about that first year. How you get through the anger, the disappointment, and how you begin to maybe look forward again. Thanks
