Finished half of my tie rod replacement today. Really hoping this remedies a consistent clunk I'm getting over large bumps. Somewhere between the inner + outer rods there was enough play that pulling back and forth made a clicking noise.

Great opportunity to do a bit of freshening up in here too. 😄

Question for the DIYers: where exactly are you placing your floor jack to raise the wheel carrier to ride height to torque everything?

With a rubber puck adapter I placed it under the wheel carrier between the control arm and toe arm. Seemed fine, I’m just paranoid of warping something when I do the other side. In the FCP Euro vid the tech put a jack under the low point of the LCA.

(In the pictures I was raising the toe arm into the knuckle using the jack, I did not raise to full ride height from that position)

Waiting for airbag frame bushings and the time to finish refreshing the rear suspension arms.

Ordered a new steering wheel by 2Samper on eBay. Received a beautiful reconditioned wheel in grain leather that I think matches the interior vinyl very well. I had a brief conversation with the store owner beforehand so he understood I was wanting as close to an OEM grain and finish as possible. Happy to say this leather matches the vinyl of the airbag cover pretty well (just as it did when it left the factory). Specifically didn't want a smooth glove leather which is very popular for those looking for a more modern look.

Wheel arrived in 7ish days and I put it on this evening. I'm super happy with the result. For me a steering wheel is a really important detail.

What I'm not so happy about is the horn now going off if I so much as look at the airbag cover. My Indy fitted a new clock spring and turn stalk in the spring and it wasn’t like this when it was returned to me, so it wasn’t definetely the result of the wheel instal. I'm thinking the rubber bushings in the inner frame have failed. Has anyone had good luck with the URO frame or the eBay bushing kit? Would really rather not spend $300 on a piece of Porsche aluminum. 😭 Would really appreciate some guidance on this. Thank you!

This air gun from The Rag Co is fantastic. Great in the hand and doest break like the Temu specials. Makes quick work of blowing out crevices and trapped water. Plenty of those areas on the 996. If you're fussy about micro scratches during drying, this is a great piece to have (not affiliated). 🧼

With these remaining pieces my suspension will be fully refreshed. Here's hoping the new TRW tie rods fix the noise in the front, there's simply nothing left to replace 🙏

Won’t be fitting everything for a little while, busy right now. This morning I at least was able to inspect everything after collecting the hardware from Gaudin Porsche on Friday.

On the end of the boots? Under the metal clamps?

Looks like I'm going to replace my 966 tie rods.

Porsche used two different TRW steering racks and I never could find the part # for mine. One inner rod size is for rack 99634701105, that seems to be the only rack that had a 'ribbed' housing (2nd photo). The other kit available is for 99634701111, 99634701106, 99634701107. That rack looks to all be smooth and that's what I have in mine (3rd photo). Can anyone verify?

Would be great to order the correct kit without having to hunt around 😄 TIA
