I don’t really get why people like Kelly with Carl so much

I get that she pushed him to work harder when they were together, so that’s her one redeeming quality. But, the first day they met she accused him of rape, she’s super disrespectful to Carl in regards to her relationship with Debbie, and it seems like she only likes being at the Gallagher house because it’s an “escape” from her privileged life. I’m at the beginning of season 10 now and Carl just met Anne and I feel like their chemistry is much better. I got spoiled so I know they don’t end up together, but I would have liked to see that relationship play out.

On Season 10 Episode 2 and the MAYO WTF

No way do gay men in prison fr use this as lube, right??? Like there has to be better options? Hand soap? Can you not buy lotion at the commissary??? I was totally with Mickey when he said he didn’t want to smell mayo every morning while getting fucked

I just saw Primetime and am confused about how people think it paints Christ Hansen in a bad light

Like yeah, he cheated on his wife and was a bit exploitative of some up and coming actors. But he still caught pedophiles- that seems like a pretty good trade off. Are people really that upset about his personal life/ambition to promote the show?? I’m sorry, what am I missing? This seems like a net benefit having a few creeps in prison

Very late to this, but IJW: Saltburn (2023) last night and I couldn’t help but think the whole time, is this not just a more modern version of the Talented Mr. Ripley?

The MC in both lies and manipulates himself into upper class society while murdering everyone around them that gets in their way so they can achieve the life of luxury they desire. Also, Tom’s sexual fascination with Dickie is very reminiscent of Oliver’s with Felix. He even steals things of Felix the same way Tom does to Dickie. Obviously, I wouldn’t accuse this film of plagiarism, but I can’t help but wonder if it was heavily influenced by that story. Sorry if this has been discussed here before, I couldn’t find a post on it.

I’m rewatching for the first time in years and realizing that I don’t love that almost every main character ended up married (3 with children)

Yes, I get that it’s a light hearted comedy and we want to see our protagonists happy, but why couldn’t any of them have ended up happily single? It kind of makes it seem like the only way to be happy is to have a partner and children. Yeah - Tom, April, and Donna didn’t have kids but they all had partners in the end. Like why Donna? She was a notorious player that they just randomly decided to get settled down? Or like why did they have to make Ron a dad? Or even Leslie a mom? I would have loved to see her say that her career was her baby and she had no interest in having children. Like I love her and Ben together, but did they need to be parents? Idk, random thought, definitely doesn’t ruin the show for me, but I would have liked to see some diversity in the characters’ “happily ever after”

Edit: forgot that April had kids and I like this even less lol

Does anyone else cry at Michael & Holly’s engagement scene every time?

I’ve probably seen this scene 15 or 20 times, but for some reason it always pulls on my heart strings and I cry. I don’t cry for any other romantic scene in the series, not even Jim telling Pam he’s in love with her or their engagement. But this one ALWAYS gets me. 😭😭😭😭😭

You should watch the Outsider before reading the book, coming from someone who just finished the book and then started the series

There are a lot of elements of mystery and surprise in the novel that don’t hit as hard if you’re watching them after knowing what happens. The book is amazing and I would recommend, there are differences between the novel and the series as well. So I would still encourage people to read the book after, but it’s one of those rare instances where I wish I waited to read the text until after watching the tv/movie adaptation.

Why do you think Shosh and Ray’s relationship ultimately failed/why did she cheat on him?

I know his lack of motivation bothered her, but she knew that going in and fell in love with him despite it. I think there’s only like 3 or 4 episodes in between the “I love you so fucking much” scene and her cheating on him. I know she was the youngest, but it just seemed out of character, especially since she initiated it “you’re like really good looking for a doorman”. And then she’s never completely honest with Ray, she diminishes what happened by saying she just held his hand. Ray must have had his blinders on due to love fr because who would just hold hands with the doorman lol. Anyways, I really loved their brief relationship and wish I could understand why it ended so soon/the way it did. On another note, can someone explain to me why Sosh didn’t like that guy from Pitch Perfect going down on her? That’s like the ideal way to lose your virginity lol

Sorry it’s long, but for those of you wanting to hear Eli using the term “code switch” for theatre/sorority, here it is!

Posted earlier about this but a few people asked for the video. I finally learned how to screen record lmao

I think S2E4 “It’s a Shame About Ray” is one of the best episodes of the series and am curious to hear everyone’s thoughts.

It points out all the insecurities of all the girls and most of them stand up for themselves!

Ok late to this post, but she uses the term “code switching” in reference to being a theatre kid and sorority girl and WTF

Does she not know the modern background of the term code switching?? This is for when black/other POC have to change their tone of voice/natural mannerisms to be deemed more “acceptable” by white society due to dealing with the oppression that comes from being themselves (myself included). Sure if you look at the dictionary definition, it could be applied here I guess?? But with the modern utilization of the term, this is extremely weird.

Re-watching S4E12 and low key Michael deserved the “did I stutter?” comment from Stanley

Right before this happened he was pitching ideas and Jim jokingly says something like “yeah something more urban” and then Michael calls out Stanley to help with it, which is pretty racist. Then, after Stanley responds that way, Toby says that he’s within his rights to fire him for insubordination. But imo Stanley was just responding to a toxic work environment. What Stanley says later when Michael fake fires him was out of line, but I genuinely don’t think he crossed it beforehand.

The play on words in this show is elite, they’re literally my favorite jokes

Michael: “get rid of the seaward”
Lucille: “I’ll leave when I’m good and ready”

“Solid as a rock”

Oscar: “maybe I’ll put in her brownie”
Michael: “I don’t need to know all the details”

There are so many, list your favorite examples please!!

Edit: another favorite I forgot was “you keep forgetting to say away…Nelly blew them all away”

Can I just say I’m frustrated with this sub’s mods?

Anticipating that this will get deleted, but someone just posted pics of Ariana Grande during the positions era and she looked WAY healthier. I commented on that post “wow she looked amazing, what did she think was wrong with this body??” and I got some upvote and engagement and it was deleted for “fan behavior” and the post was as well??? I don’t like her at all, but are we not allowed to look at her past self and recognize that she looked better at a higher weight given how concerning she looks now? I was just trying to emphasize that she looked better when she was normal, hopefully encouraging other people to realize that they don’t need to be emaciated to look good. Idk I think the arbitrary rules on this sub are too strict and we should be able to have nuanced conversation.

Apologies if this has been posted, but wtf?

Sorry, mods, I know y’all have deleted my posts before due to redundancy on the ED topic, but this is beyond. Concerning, scary, and entirely inappropriate to post. I do not understand how her fans are just ok with this. What are we as a society doing about EDs being promoted in massive spaces. NOTHING. It’s encouraged. I keep slipping back into my ED mindset (as someone 10 years “recovered” - do we actually ever recover if it’s there in our brain?). Please do not delete, because even though there have been so many similar posts, it helps for us to recognize over and over again that this is not normal or ok.

The thing she’s most excited about for married life is going to other people’s events?

Maybe this isn’t snark worthy, but I feel like there should be so many better and more personal things you’re looking forward to about married life over other people’s weddings? Thats only like a couple days per year IF that
