Coastal in the Countryside

Alrighty guys, let ‘er rip with this one!

It’s giving coastal, Jersey Shore/townhome vibes, simply due to its tall, narrow profile.

Looks like a custom build on somebody’s property that they subdivided.

Looking on Street View, this masterpiece is conveniently located in the front yard of another architectural abomination and about 10 yards from a busy road. What a prime location!!

Satellite and Street View point out that this was most likely the former site of a barn/garage/outbuilding that was torn down.

While not the traditional all brick 9000sf 80s,90s, Y2K “regular McMansions” we’re all used to seeing, this one certainly shares some of the same characteristics as its larger counterparts.

Painted Roof Coating

Saw this the other day, and had to do a double take, or nobody would believe me.
I know they have roll-on sealants for metal and rubber roofs, but for asphalt shingles?
Am I missing something here, or is this just cutting corners at its finest?

Name this Style

These graphic tees were popular in the 90s - 2000s and always seemed to feature a skull, angel wings or some variation thereof.

What is the style called?
Is it punk, emo or something else.

What made it a popular thing to wear?

Old House Framing Color

Currently in the process of renovating a 1920s bungalow, and have noticed that all of the framing appears to be painted.
Color is beige like a Manila office folder.

Walls, floors, attic, everywhere we’ve cut a hole or done work the wood behind is a different color, so we know it’s not just a scrap 2x4 that they threw in there.

My question is WHY? What is the purpose of this.
I estimate the last big remodel was probably around 1990s-2000 era for any context that might have.
(As far as I know, there have been no fires, floods or other disasters at the property, that might warrant some kind of remediation)

Loud Bathroom Vent Fan

I have a bathroom vent fan that is very loud and can’t seem to quite source the issue.
I installed it about a year ago and ever since day one it’s just been noisy.
Looking for advice on how to remedy this issue. The fan works fine, but is annoying to listen to.
(See video for audio)

-Could there be something loose inside like packaging material or something that is rattling around when the motor is on?

-Is this just a noisy unit?
(Model is ReVent RVP50ES)

Please forgive me for the open splice connection. Needed to get this installed ASAP to remedy a bathroom moisture issue. I plan to correctly house the splice in a junction box before repairing the attic floor.

Automatic Gate Opener Ideas

Looking for advice on the best way to go about installing an automatic gate opener for a double chain link gate across a driveway.

Each gate is about 4.5’ wide and weighs less than 100 pounds.

There is no power outlet nearby, so I imagine solar would be the easiest option?

I’m looking for a budget friendly DIY project here, not interested in tearing up the driveway or spending thousands on an automation system.
Is that something that can be done?

Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated!

Peeling Tree Help

I’ve got a tree that has something going on with it, and can’t quite figure it out. I believe the tree in question is a red leaf maple.

For background info;
I moved into this house about 2 years ago, totally fell in love with the terraced front yard with a big old tree. Tree along with the landscaping and rest of the house was completely neglected, and I have slowly been improving things.
This year, I had a landscape company come in and put down mulch (no weed barrier) edgers, rock beds and walkways all throughout the yard. Including the mulch you see around the tree. Their business card also said they do tree work, so I also had them give the tree a pruning as limbs were hanging over the house. Mind you this was in early spring and the company was well-reviewed.

Fast forward to now, and I notice some dead leaves on one of the branches. (See picture with orange box) I borrowed a pole saw hoping to just cut off a dying branch and noticed something weird. At each of the branches that the tree company cut, the bark was splitting off and peeling away from the main branch. On the limb that I cut off, I noticed a hole going down the center of the branch and a few holes coming out of that to the surface. (see blue boxes). This almost looks like insects, but I didn’t see any when removing the branch.

Does anyone know what might be going on here?
I tried to do everything right, but I am in no way an “expert gardener”.
My main concern is the health and longevity of the tree, as it is the focal point of the front yard and one of the reasons I fell in love with the place to begin with.
Is there something I can do, perhaps buy a pesticide or fertilizer to cure this problem, or do I need to call in professional help?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Anybody know what’s going on with New Construction Model Homes lately?

Recently have seen in new developments locally that outside of the Sales Centers/Models they have a Porta-John outside right. Not for construction crews, but I’m guessing Sales Agents and buyers? What is up with that!?

Single Family, Townhouses and Condos I’ve seen this trend. From multiple Big Name Builders.

What’s odd is this home isn’t actively under construction, it’s done and ready for occupancy. All the others currently being built have a Porta-John and dumpster (as to be expected) So it’s not for construction workers.

Seems awfully “unflattering” to be signing paperwork on a brand new home in an expertly decorated Model, only to have nature call, just to be told “The Porta-John’s out back”.

Every Model I’ve ever been in has one bathroom inside (usually half or hall) that can be used.

(The included picture is from an online real estate listing, one of several similar instances)

There’s gotta be a reason for this, if anyone knows any answers are appreciated.
