0% TurnItIn score, should I be worried?

I recently wrote a paper for school that our professor told us to NOT DO RESEARCH FOR. So, the content had to come all from our brains and no other sources at all. I submitted my paper and saw it had a 0% turnitin score. At first I thought that was really good, but then I started looking it up online and people keep saying it's an even bigger indicator that there is something wrong with my writing if it's completely at 0%?? Why is that? I know turnitin often flags citations and stuff and thats why its common for the percentages to be within like 10-30% give or take, but I wasn't allowed to use any outside research so nothing like that was flagged for my paper. Is that bad?

EDIT: Sorry if this is a stupid question. I was recently accused of using AI in another class for a very simple writing assignment that I just misread small instructions for, and I'm very anxious about having to talk to the professor after class about it even though I know I didn't do anything wrong. I've been a good academic writer for as long as I've been in school and have never had issues like anything like this, so this is new and stressful to me. It just feels so wrong for these new tools to be brought in and assumptions being made about me because of them.

Incoming film transfer w/ lots of questions!!

As the title says, I’m an incoming Fall transfer for the cinema and television arts program and wanted to know a bit more about the program/CSUN in general.

  1. I am most interested in the art department of film such as production design and set dressing. As far as I’m aware, there isnt any emphasis or anything for that in the film program, so what do I do? I was considering changing my major or minoring in theater design but I’m not sure if I should since it might require extra classes that I didn’t do in community college, or that it wouldn’t be applicable to what I want to do in film. Did any other art department people go to CSUN, and what did you guys do?

  2. Where do you guys find cheap off campus housing? I am hoping to get a studio/1b1b but it seems oddly scarce when I look online compared to other, more expensive places like DTLA. Is there some secret method to finding housing? How did you guys do it?

  3. How is the night life/party scene at CSUN like? Does it exist at all? I guess it’s not the most important thing in the world, but I hope that there are parties and things to hang out with other students since I’m gonna be a bit out of the way from my friends back home.

I probably have more questions, but these are the ones that are burning in my mind. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can’t afford to go to USC without putting myself in nearly $150K in debt

Hi, I was accepted as a Fall transfer for the cinematic arts program recently, but I got a terrible financial aid package (basically nothing) and can’t afford to go without financially crippling myself like the title of this post says. I’m still trying to fight with financial aid, but based off of what everyone says, it seems like it won’t be going anywhere. I hope I’m making the right choice by not going if I don’t get a better financial aid package, but I’m devastated. I worked very hard to get here and it really sucks that money is the only thing that’s stopping me. It feels worse that I have the acceptance being dangled in front of my face and I just can’t take it. I honestly think it feels worse than if I just got outright rejected so I don’t have to have my dream crushed in a realer way. I think I’m just looking for some words of wisdom from other film students or other USC students that struggled with financial aid.

Financial Aid Hold Music

The anger I feel when I’m on hold with financial aid for over an hour and the piercing sound of the piano music just won’t ever end….. I hate this school so much

Can’t afford my dream school and I’m absolutely devastated

(This is probably more of a rant/looking for advice about my situation)

I recently got accepted into USC SCA and it was the happiest moment of my life. I would be coming in as a transfer from a CC that praises USC so much and I would be the first (at least that I and my professors know of) that has been accepted to USC and would attend. I was so excited and was riding the high for the entire day. BUT… I got my financial aid package the next day and I was immediately crushed. I hardly received any aid and I would end up having to pay around $80k/yr (just based on tuition + mandatory fees alone, not including any additional costs). I come from a middle class household, so I’m poor enough to not be able to afford this, but “rich” enough for USC not to help me with these costs at all.

I’ve called the financial aid office & visited in person numerous times and I’ve been met with a general lack of empathy, help, or options other than submitting an appeal (which they admit would probably get rejected in my case) or taking out private loans. I feel like I can’t really justify putting myself into $160k+ worth of debt for this major, but I’m still absolutely devastated. In all honesty, I am still considering it just because I know I would hate myself so much if I didn’t take this great opportunity. But of course, I’d also be shooting myself in the leg by putting myself into so much debt for a career that isn’t the most stable or would help in paying that debt off.

If I don’t go to USC, I don’t think I will attend school at all and try my best with freelancing and networking outside of school environments. I was admitted to CSUN, but the aid package would still require me to probably pull around $100k+ in private loans as well. I also just don’t feel very passionate about CSUN’s program or the area, so I would kind of just be thinking about that the entire time.

More than anything, I think I just want some words of wisdom from any alumni from USC (mostly from SCA undergrads) or anyone in the film industry about my situation. I already know I will run into some ppl/replies telling me film school is useless and stuff, but I’ve already heard it 1,000 times and would like some more nuanced input.
