Chan eil mi a' tuigsinn an seatans seo

Halò a h-uile duine!

Tha mi a' leughadh bàrdachd le Màiri Nic A' Phearsain an-dràsta, gu h-àraid "Nuair bha mi òg". Anns an rann seo, chan eil mi a' tuigsinn an dàrna seantans:

Toirt na mo chuimhn' iomadh nì a rinn mi

[Nach faigh mi 'm bann gu ceann thall mo sgeòil,]

A' falbh sa gheamhradh gu luaidh is bainnsean

Gun solas lainnteir ach ceann an fhòid [...]

Chunnaic mi mòran eadar-theangaidhean gu math diofaraichte air loidhne. Tha mi ag iarraidh eadar-theangachadh litireil mar tha e dèantach. Mòran taing!

Bought this beautiful copy for 10 euros

I bought this copy of Quatre-Vingt-Treize a few years back on Vinted. There is no date inside, but I did see a few similar copies online, although red. Any insights?

"That" anns a' Ghàidhlig

Halò a charaidean! Tha mi a' lorg airson cuideachas; dh' ionnsaich mi beagan Gàidhlig nuair a bha mi aig oilthigh o chionn sia bliadhna, agus tha cuimhne agam gun robh mi a’ strì ri "that". Do you have any resources on how to use "that" in sentences in all tenses?

Mòran taing 😊

Conference talk moved to when I'm out of the country less than 24h before I am due to speak

I am due to present at an international symposium tomorrow, which lasts from June 17th to June 19th. Because of limited funding, I made arrangements to travel to the country late on June 16th, so today, and leave by midday of June 18th. Today, I received a message from the organisers saying they had reshuffled the program and I discover that I am now due to present late on June 19th, whereas I was supposed to present in less than 24 hours originally. I am not supposed to be in the country on June 19th. Do organisers just assume we can afford to be there three days in a capital city? Have you ever encountered a situation like that? 😞

Lost earring

Hi all! Long shot, but I lost one of my earrings around Holyrood Road/South Bridge/Nicolson Street/Pleasance. It's very small so I don't have much hope, but thought I'd try anyway! It has no value but they were my favourite pair. Thank you 😊

Construction work Holyrood Road/Old Kirk

Anyone knows what the construction work around Old Kirk on Holyrood Road for the last three days is about? I live just next to it and the noise has been terrible, making it very difficult to study and hold online meetings during this exam season. While I will just go elsewhere from now on, it's frustrating to pay so much rent to not be able to study in my room... But that's the reality of living in any city. I am curious to know if anyone knows how long it will last and what they are doing, as it is an interesting process to watch nonetheless.

What's with Forensic Files II and psychics?

I've been watching the original FF series and have been getting into new episodes lately. At first, I thought it was a coincidence that every episode of FF II I watched heavily focused on the intervention of a psychic. But tonight I'm on my 6th or 7th episode where a psychic is the star of the show - it's repetitive, and is not even subtle. I see other people commenting on that here and there, but I wondered if we have more info on FF II's production? Is there an agenda? The narrative structure, with the psychic getting involved and interviews of police force members commenting that they did not believe at first "but where open to anything at this point", then saying they were pretty much convinced at the end of each episode, is oddly reiterative. Or did I manage to stubble upon a sample that is not at all representative of the whole series?
