Testing re-certified Drives and RAID 6 vs RAID 5 for a filmmaker

I make videos for professional work and passion projects. I made the move to a 4 Bay Nas Ugreen system with 26TB sea gate recertified drives (so 102 total TB).
My first question is how do I test these drives to make sure there are no issues with them being recertified before my return window closes to get a replacement?
For what I do, should I do raid 6 vs raid 5. I hate to waste the extra space and is it really that risky only having one drive for backup instead of two? Do peoples hard drives actually breakdown well backing up another one? I genuinely don’t know.

I’m purchasing a used OG BMPCC 6k. What should I look for out for and test before buying?

I know some BM cameras can have dead pixels, but I’m not even sure what to be looking out for when I’m testing the used camera. I won’t have a computer on me so I will be only seeing the LCD. I’ll test the usb C port and hdmi. I see people say but in lens cap and crank iso, but what does that really do?

What are unique spots and visual landmarks that represent Jacksonville for a documentary?

Im a professional filmmaker shooting a documentary series in Jacksonville, about population growth in the city. I’m from south Florida, so I wanted to ask some locals about iconic or cool visual landmarks that represent Jacksonville? Preferably something more unique than the 3 main bridges. I really want to capture the essence of Jacksonville!

Would you drive 3 hours one way to pay $800 for bmpcc 6k OG?

Text really says it all. I already have one but wanted a second to put on a gimbal. I was looking for a g2 for the screen but found nothing reasonable. I found a guy willing to sell one for $800. Do you think it’s worth the 6 hour drive?

Which broadcast lens specifically am I looking for to get long snap zooms with my bmpcc 6k?

I saw a video of a guy who rigged a fx3 to a Canon J17 ex7.7B4 7-131mm zoom with a basic adapter and he got the snap zooms I’ve always dreamed of. So I was wondering which broadcast lens specifically I need to keep my eye out for to achieve this effect. I understand there is a lot of very similar versions which gets confusing. Also since the camera is s35 and not full frame, would I still have to do that digital crop in to get rid of a possible vignette on wide focal lengths?

Vast amount of priceless video footage. Best storage solution?

Let me start off by saying I understand the 3-2-1 rule, so let’s please move past that. I do not have the funds to live that kind of lifestyles like you lot. I shoot on Blackmagic cameras and have accumulated vast amounts of video footage beyond my wildest dreams. About 60 TB. BUT my camera gets hungrier by the day. It wants more TBs to gobble up with bigger projects looming over the horizon. I don’t need to edit off it, I just want something that is secure. More secure than relying on heaps of Wd 20 tb hard drives I’ve hoarded over the decade just begging to blow out and throw away my life’s work like a worthless sack of potatoes. I have accepted my fate of the cost of these supposed special sata iii drives and I will learn the way of the RAID. Just tell me what housing to buy so I may build a home for this expensive little family of mine, so we have some security. Please help us people of Reddit. You’re our only hope!

What lenses would you recommend for the bmpcc 6k/pyxis for shooting a documentary?

The text really says it all. I’m shooting a documentary and plan to use manual lenses. I’m open to vintage as well as modern. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Most comfortable and agile work boots (composite or steel toed) for construction videographer.

I’m shooting a 3 year documentary series for an electrical company. I got some cheap boots recently last second for a job and they killed my feet. All I care about is comfort and that I can move quickly and nimbly in them since a lot of my work requires me to be “light footed”. I think composite with a flat bottom is what I’m looking for. I think I have wide feet technically because I’ve broke both my pinky toes and have issues with them rubbing on shoes. Any recommendations or advice would be awesome.

Would you rely on the Blackmagic 6k full frame camera with its new autofocus update for a solo documentary?

I have been hired for a 3 year deal, 10 part series corporate construction documentary. I am a bmpoc 6k OG shooter since it came out and love it, but hate it doesn't have autofocus when I need it in scenarios. I usually shoot manual but there's plenty of scenarios I miss focus without a focus puller as a solo shooter. Originally i was going to purchase an fx3 but i personally feel its outdated for its price point and lack of color range and it made it hard to swallow buying it with a solid Sony autofocus lens.
Now that im seeing this Blackmagic update for the full frame camera, im much more open to spending my money with them in a system I feel comfortable with. The updates seem only for this specific Blackmagic line of camera and has a beta version that's seen very positive reviews. It would be great if it was no Pyxis but it doesn't seem to be.
I realize I'm completely betting on something I have no idea how it actually performs in hopes it will do what l imagine (which hasn't worked out great for me in the past). So my question is has anyone really shot with the bmpcc 6k FF with the new update and tried it for documentary work with autofocus? I'm talking camera moving and tracking a subject if need be, not some basic interview shot that YouTube shows me a million of. What's your experience with it? Pros and Cons?

Stripped all the screws on my Contax Zeiss…What to do next?

I’m new to the vintage lens world and was stoked I got my mitts on a 28mm 2.8 Contax zeiss. I researched what to do and got isopropyl, ijs screws and a saudering tool and Simmod lens converter. All the screws stripped easily…what the heck. I’m super bummed. What is my next method to try to get the screws out?

Where can I find a proper ijs-s screwdriver on Amazon for my Contax zeiss vintage lens?

I need to get the screws out of my Contax zeiss vintage glass. Where can I find a proper ijs-s screwdriver on Amazon. I’ve been struggling and would really appreciate a link. I’ve already returned two screwdriver sets

Should I shoot “a raw cinematic corporate documentary” with manual vintage lenses.

So recently I landed my biggest contract yet and basically a full time job. A 3 year deal with a large company in the construction space for a 10 part series. They want a “raw cinematic corporate documentary” with a heavy emphasis on it feeling really “raw.” I normally shoot with my bmpcc 6k. I was planning on renting or buying an fx3 and shooting all with autofocus lenses. Now I’ve been toying with the idea of using my vintage set but it feels risky for not only focusing but messing them up in a construction space with a bunch of particles. Is the risk worth it? Also I’m just curious if anyone has shot a documentary with manual lenses themself without a focus puller and how difficult it was?

Is the owc prebuilt 8 bay 128tb a solid storage solution for a filmmaker with a lot of footage?

I am filmmaker who shoots b-raw with large file sizes. I’m at 80 tb with more big projects to come and currently I’m putting my footage on 20 tb wd hard drives. I know it’s risky, so I just want a proper back up solution I can edit off for big projects and not worry about losing data. From my research this seems like the best option. Is their any cons to having the storage already put in? Any experience with these? Crazy it’s worth the same as my computer…..

What small battery would work for my feelworld monitor?

I already have plenty of vmounts which are much too heavy. I’m looking for a small battery to power my feelworld monitor on a gimbal (with tilta ring). I tried a portable battery I use for my phone and it didn’t work. What level power supply do I need for it? Any specific recommendations?
