Just got this 1948 Holiday travel magazine in the mail and was looking through it, and this ad was in there. What’s even funnier to me is the swimming part. And for me at least, it feels very Widow’s Bay-esque for some reason. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Never had to hire a lawyer before, but need to now. Are there any resources to find out if they’re truly good for what I need?

I’ve never had any experience with a lawyer so I don’t know what I don’t know. I will have a consultation, which will answer some major questions such as “this is the situation, what are my rights”, but how do I know they’re telling me the truth? Or maybe they’re thinking “this won’t make us any money” so they tell me my case is futile? And if they’re actually a good law firm if I move forward with them?

Moon and my ‘maters

Snapped some pics of the orange Moon last night. Phone auto’d the exposure on the first two, and the third is how dark it actually was outside. My tomatoes are heart-shaped! Both are on the same plant. Anyway, I thought they were kinda neat and thought I’d share.
Happy 4th week and weekend, everyone!🇺🇸

Feeling a little anxious: Just sent my platen off for re-rubbering

It was hard to part with: no one loves that little platen more than me, and without it, my little ‘57 Skyriter becomes a doorstop. I know JJ Short will take good care of it, but I’m just praying for it to have a safe and uneventful trip in the mail, there and back. Only my fellow typewriter guardians understand how this feels. Thanks for letting me share.

It has become clear to me that I’m a Widow’s Bay addict

Was watching Ghosts (US) and saw this and immediately thought of Ugly Hortense. Even Ungrateful Hortense needs a vacation once in a while. Haunting is tough.

Shelf question

Picked this up at a local antiques mall for $45; no mark or label, but was told—I think correctly so—that this is MC/MCM. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? The frame is steel. The glass is new (each sheet/shelf had a modern/recent “tempered glass” sticker on it). I doubt the original sheets were any bigger than the topmost shelf (just a gut feeling that each shelf was the same size as the top shelf). I have searched and cannot find any info on this, or anything even close to it. I’ll be grateful for any information.

Trying to write book on artist (died 1987, no kids, no siblings), internet search hit dead-end; any ideas where to look for more info?

I am unsure if he has any known relatives—I don’t think he does, but his wife (who died in 2001) may have had a sibling with kids. I’m just at a loss as to where to go for more info on this guy. It’s my first book, and I just need some guidance

Episode 1: Did anyone else want more of……

I’m going to return a bunch of times so no one can see the spoiler because I don’t know how to hide my text so please see the rest of my question down below:

Did anyone else want more of the reporter??? I really thought he would be one of the main characters!!! But he said BYE after Tom’s outburst, which ended up being a smart move but I wanted more of him. Hope he and Shaman, Bridget, and GF’s absconded cat all come back

Tonight I get to watch someone watch the finale!!!

I cheated on my husband and watched the finale on Tuesday, and he has no idea (not sorry, hon). We are going to watch the finale together tonight after work, and I’m so excited for his reactions and what he has to say about how everything was revealed, etc. Anyway, just wanted to share because I know how much we all love this show and how we wish we all could watch it again for the first time!

Clippings from 1951 Life and 1943 Look magazines

Was cutting up a very water-damaged, mildewy March 12, 1951 Life magazine and these are some things that I saved. I tried to salvage as much as I could. The Look magazine was falling apart as well, not water-damaged, but in rough shape and mildewy. The mounds ad and the lifesavers ad are from Look, along with the cover.

Every single episode is a separate gem

This show is so ingeniously executed and superbly written. I feel like each episode is unique enough that they all could fully support a spin-off and turn into a series of its own. Yes, there is the one continuous story line, but each episode has SUCH a great story to tell and so full of fantastic details, it feels like each episode is like a movie.

Serious question: Is this acceptable/normal?

My husband scheduled a ride for 0330 this morning, and the Uber driver never showed. He had to cancel to book another, and much more expensive ride (Uber Black), and Uber charged him a fee for cancelling? WTF

Free: 10 coffee sleeves and 1 sample pack

My husband left all of our coffee—a huge bag full—on the plane, so there’s $100 worth of coffee for you out there if you’re flying from SLC to SFO….🤦🏻‍♀️

1950s Saalfield Artcraft

My apologies if this is not allowed here since it’s not furniture??? but it is of the era. Found this book of 1950s paper dolls in pristine condition at a local antiques mall. Took apart very carefully (saved the original staples) and decided to display them. I find them just so lovely to look at

Found this at a local antiques mall. It’s in pristine condition. Took it apart very carefully (I kept the original staples) so I could display it. I just think it’s too beautiful to keep closed up and tucked away.

Saalfield Artcraft made them.
