Most disturbing "Sinister" tape?

Basically all of the home videos in the "Sinister" series (yes, even the mediocre sequel) are varying degrees of disturbing. The soundtrack that accompanies them plays a huge role in conveying the atmosphere. For the first film, I think "Pool Party" spooked me the most. The juxtaposition from a happy family playing around to them being drowned, combined with the music, haunted me (not literally lol).

In "Sinister 2", "Christmas Morning" really fucked me up. It goes from a seemingly loving family celebrating, to them getting buried in the snow. Not to mention the closing shot of the mom's face. The music ("Not Saved" by the goat Ulver) really sold the scene too. That, along with the "Sunday Service" tape are probably the only memorable parts of an otherwise passable movie. What are your top picks from Baghuulbuster?

Creepiest encounter in the game?

Despite being set in a mostly realistic world, RDR2 is filled with many scary and supernatural elements, be it the Night Folk, the ghost of Agnes Dowd, Strange Man and more. I still remember my first time getting jumped by the Night Folk even though it was at daytime (it was after shooting down the hanging victim, which can happen outside of nighttime apparently) . Another creepy one for me was finding the "pig-man" thing near Van Horn. How about you guys?

Changing fears

I have probably talked about this here already, but I have noticed that once I start to get over one fear, my brain manufactures a new one. Some of the basic details may remain the same, but the lesser details, the "dressing" if you will, changes. This all really started a couple of weeks ago, where I started having fears that at nighttime when I sleep, I would become possessed, kill people around me, and go to another dimension the next morning to restart the cycle. When I started to get over that, it changed to me dooming another version of me in the universe to eventually harm others, and that there was nothing I could do to stop it. That one REALLY hit me hard, even though I knew it didn't make any sense. Then, the fears changed to me being trapped in some kind of loop by an evil force, like something out of "The Matrix". Next, it shifted to me being in an actual simulation (classic) and everyone and thing around me being fake. Now, it's telling me that when I close my eyes, even momentarily, I create an alternate reality where I do something bad.

Now, the fact that these fears keep changing is an obvious sign that it's all nonsense, but that doesn't prevent me from worrying. Whenever something big happens around me, part of my brain goes "What if that's a distraction because you're close to the truth" and more. I have been getting much better at ignoring this crap, but that can only do so much. Can anyone with experience explain why these fears are similar, but also different? I am not looking for reassurance, as I know that's not helpful, but I am just curious about this.

Getting better, but still having problems.

So my anxieties and paranoia's are far less pronounced than they were previously, which is a good thing. However, I still have my moments. The other day I had the urge to change the radio station before it got to static. Then when I did it, I suddenly felt like I had forgotten it, like I'd fallen asleep and the other person in the car had done it. That gave me great anxiety cuz then I feared "what if" I had caused something to happen. What if I had caused a separate reality to be formed or whatever as I've talked about previously. Other than that though, I have been feeling much better than previously. Hopefully, this is a good sign. I continue to get better, but I still have a ways to go.

Worst horror film ever?

I know this is a tall order, but I wonder if there is any horror film that is seen by virtually everyone to be horrendous. There's the obvious ones like "Exorcist 2" (which tbf I haven't seen yet) and "The Wicker Man", but are there any other runner ups?

An update.

After a couple weeks, I feel that I am starting to get back to normal. Obviously, I don't want to just assume I'm fine now, as I still have bad thoughts and compulsions (I also have fears that if I fully let my guard down, THEN something bad will happen), but I feel less tormented by it now. I will see how I am feeling in a few days.

Making me see the same stuff. Also, thoughts and fears changing.

My OCD and compulsions often have me watching the same clips over and over again, on the threat that something bad will happen if I don't. I know this is very common for OCD, but it is still a pain in the rear. Another thing that happens a lot with my thoughts is that the things I fear happening change. It started with me thinking if I fall asleep at night, then I will unknowingly be possessed and harm my family before going to another reality in the morning and restarting the cycle. Then, it turned into me being afraid that if I didn't do x, then another me in another universe would do something bad. Then, it went to me being in a fake reality and/or trapped by some evil force or even God. Now, it's telling me that if I go to sleep, I could CREATE a separate reality that is just the same, but my body in the old one would be possessed. One might think this could be comforting, because it proves that these fears are artificial and bs, hence the changing narrative. In all of the aforementioned fears, I knew it was not real, but I couldn't stop myself from the frequent "What if?" or "Maybe that's what they want you to think". I have noticed that my anxiety/thoughts are calming down and getting less severe, so I have that to look forward to at least. Still, that doesn't make this any less torturous. Does this happen to anyone else?

Edit: this post draft was written days ago. I am feeling better now.

Crazy info about Sinister 2

I found this old podcast interview with an actress who appeared in one of the murder tapes in Sinister 2 (crappy sequel I know). Apparently, the evil kid in her scene had the same name as her real daughter! Just figured this would be interesting to share

https://www.topfivereport.com/2018/11/05/episode-15-welcoming-guests/?fbclid=IwY2xjawTbX3lleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZA80MDk5NjI2MjMwODU2MDkAAR5h14W4mrMYF2Pvrvp145gIfUaBbRtiH\_-FhcQ4968RotkdAiHm72k5NqG8JQ\_aem\_ahXR1OoeLV\_V8WT-e2v9fA

It's mentioned some time after the 15 min mark.

Waking feeling bad, going to bed fine.

I have been doing very well recently fighting against my OCD, intrusive thoughts, and superstitions (which I have already described enough in other posts). However, I have noticed a strange cycle. No matter how I feel when I go to sleep, when I wake up, I feel uneasy, like something bad has happened or will. As the day goes on, I begin to feel better, and by nighttime, I feel great. The next morning however, the cycle repeats. What is behind this?

Seeing patterns

I've been doing pretty good lately against my intrusive thoughts and OCD since I last posted here. However, I still have my struggles here and there. Recently, I was talking to some friends on Discord, and someone brought up a movie I was thinking about for a while. Then, I watched a video where another movie I was thinking about was brought up right after the guy in the video said a word that reminded me of it. A week or two ago, I might have genuinely been panicking, but I have improved quite a bit. Still, part of my brain wants to see some connection there and scare me. Does this happen to anyone else?

How common are delusions about reality?

Currently, my intrusive thoughts problem is appearing to calm down, which is a good thing. However, I'm now having fears about my world being fake, or that I'm trapped in some magical Matrix-style system by an evil force. I don't believe this obviously, but it's still bothering to say the least. I've heard this happens to a lot of people even without mental problems. How often does anyone here get that?

Intrusive thoughts going away at night

I've noticed that my intrusive thoughts, paranoia and/or anxiety seems to go away at night time. Usually that's the opposite for most people. I wonder if it's because my brain powers off at night, but I don't know. Any ideas?

Is it true horror films can actually reduce anxiety?

Hello everyone, as a new member in this subreddit (but a long time viewer of James) I have heard that horror films can actually help people with anxiety. For context, I am someone who has a huge anxiety problem, but I have also watched many horror films. Some horror films like "Sinister" are quite haunting, and can stick with you for a while (at least me tbh). Is there any truth to the claim that horror films can actually help people with these problems?

How can I solve this?

As I have already mentioned here before, I am currently going through a flurry of intrusive thoughts and OCD induced fears. A big one right now is that I actually go to a different reality every night and wake up there (among other things). Now, I must make it clear that I don't actually believe this, but part of my mind loves throwing that in. I will leave some things a certain way in my bedroom to look at before I go to sleep. That way, when I wake up and see it's the same, I know everything is fine. However, the thoughts keep trying to convince me that I'm somehow being tricked ("Maybe you just absorbed the memory of another you" "maybe that was staged to fool you", etc). Again, I know better than to believe this, but the persistent thoughts continue. I know I'm okay (well, maybe not all the way lol), but the fears continue. Is this a type of delusion?

Failing compulsions and the fear afterwards

As someone who has always struggled with OCD and intrusive thoughts, the past week has been exceptionally hard. I often make the mistake of making "deals" with the OCD that something bad will happen if I don't do the compulsion. When inevitably I can't complete one, I feel panicked like I've doomed myself or the people around me. Other times, I will try to do "half-deals" to make up for my failure (like "I couldn't look at that this way, but how about I try doing x?"). A lot of the fears I'm having overlap with superstitions and conspiracy theories. A big one is that I will somehow create an alternate reality/timeline where I eventually end up hurting those around me.

I try to remind myself about the nonsensical nature of these fears, but that doesn't stop part of my brain from going "Are you sure?" and the like. I've been making some progress these past few days (with the help of medication and therapy of course), but there's also the part of my brain that thinks something will happen when I think I'm safe.

This turned into a longer post than I expected lol. I just hope some of y'all out there can understand what I'm talking about and maybe provide some advice.
