Shipping out to bootcamp, imbibing stoicism

I (20F) have never really been into philosophy. I recently got to about it and I’d like to learn more - especially about how I can apply it to my life.

I enlisted in the Marines. I’ll be shipping out to bootcamp soon. How can I get into stoicism to help me get through bootcamp and have a successful career in the military? I applied for a combat role and I know it’ll be tough

Reconnecting with my faith, shipping out to bootcamp

I (20F) have never really been religious. I recently enlisted in the Marines. I’ll be shipping out to bootcamp soon. I know it’ll be tough. I’ve been feeling a strong urge to re-connect with my faith. Any tips on how to go about getting a bit deeper and more spiritual, with Christianity?

Taking care of my brother when I’ll be away

My (20F) parents separated a couple of years ago. I live with my mom and meet my dad occasionally, about once a month. He lives away, in a different city. I have a younger brother, who is 13. He’s really dependent on me for emotional support and well being. Our mother is unfortunately quite cold and neglectful. He doesn’t get along well with her.

I enlisted in the Marines, after which I will ship out to boot camp and start my career in the military. My brother has been really anxious ever since he got to know of my plan to enlist. I’m also quite concerned for him and have been trying to get my father to play a larger role in his life, but he’s reluctant to do so. Any advice? I feel bad with how anxious he is although it’ll be a while before I actually ship out. I want to be a responsible big sister but it’s just so difficult sometimes.

Enlisted in the Marines - fitness tips before bootcamp - will be shipping out in a few months (20F)

I enlisted in the Marines. I’m a boxer, go to the gym, lift weights, run and hike regularly. I’ll be shipping out to boot camp in a few months. I’ve signed up for combat support and I know that the fitness standards are high. I eventually want to be in Amphibious Assault. Looking for tips to prepare myself for bootcamp.

Looking for female-centric fitness advice.

I can already do a good number of pull ups and chin ups (15+) and can run 3 miles in about 19 minutes

Opportunities for boxing in the Marines

I (20F) am enlisting in the Marines. I’m a boxer on track to go pro. I’ve decided to serve in military instead of going pro. I’d however like to continue boxing. Are there opportunities for females to continue boxing in the Marines (not full time)? Are there boxing teams? My recruiter didn’t have an answer to this question either. I understand the Army has a world class athletes program which includes boxing. Is there anything similar for the Marines? To be clear - I want to go active duty and only continue boxing on the side

Do’s and don’ts of speaking to recruiters?

I’ve (20F) decided to enlist and get into active duty. I’m leaning towards the Marines but I’ll be speaking to the Marines and Army recruiters as well next week. I’m interested in combat jobs (Amphibious Assault and Combat Engineer in particular, for the Marines), and I’ll be speaking to the recruiters for the first time. I want to ship out to bootcamp by the end of this year. This would be the first time I’d be speaking to recruiters.

Is there anything positive at all about the Marines?

I’ve (20F) decided to enlist either in the Marines or the Army. My heart says Marines although a lot of people have been advising me to consider the Air Force or the Army. I’m especially interested in combat roles. I’m a boxer, am tall, lift weights and run and hike regularly. I’m confident of having a great score in PT. I work hard and I am ambitious. I think I’ll do really well in Marines but people tell me how horrible and difficult it is for a women. Is it true that the Marines really is that bad for women and that I should consider the other branches more strongly? I’ll be meeting the recruiters for the Marines and the Army next week.

Tips for enlisting in the Army as a woman

I’m (20F) considering enlisting in the Army or the Marines. I’ll be speaking to a recruiters next week. I want to take up a combat MOS, because I’m a boxer (on track to go pro) and think I’d fit in well and challenge myself. Which MOS should I consider? What about infantry?

I’ve read about the combat jobs being physically demanding for the women. For context, I’m 6’1, lift weights and run regularly as part of my boxing training. Would it be a good idea to practice rucking regularly until boot camp?

I’m also interested in the World Class Athlete Program.

Strongly thinking of enlisting in the Marines

I (20F) have been strongly thinking about enlisting in the Marines.

I’m a boxer. A few months ago, an Army recruiter saw me in a boxing match and suggested I enlist for military service. I’m on track to go pro but ever since then, I’ve been feeling the urge to serve, and feel it’s a higher calling. I know the Marines are considered to the toughest, which is why I’m particularly aiming to be a Marine. I’m interested in infantry and think I’ll be able to match the physical standards. I’m also pretty tall (6’1) and hike regularly, lift weights and run.

How do I go about the process of enlisting? What should I know? How different would the Army be from the Marines, in terms of a long term career prospects? I’ll start talking to the Marines and Army recruiters in the coming days to take the process forward.
