Parent here

Im sorry. I figured here would be the best place to ask. As long as all goes well, my son will graduate next month. My dumb*** forgot to get my "real" ID. I wouldnt get it in time before the graduation day (45 business days) and I doubt going on base theyll allow paper copies if I did go to the dmv to get such prior. So...

Will my husband and I still be able to get on base with our "old" ID with/in addition to bringing our ssn and birth certificate? And do i need to bring such for our younger children? Id ask my child, but havent gotten a letter in a couple weeks and I know hes got a lot going on there and doesnt always have time to answer letters. Or write.

Thank you.

Should I force the breakup?

I’m heading off to MCRD PI July 2nd (most likely) after I get my MEPs done and over with, recruiter is trying to push for that Tuesday for my ship date, I have a girlfriend and we’ve literally only been together for 2 months so yes she’s a really loyal girl but to deal with all that? Man I’m not sure she’s saying she wants to be loyal and stay but I’m gonna have new beginnings should I just force the breakup to avoid extra drama?

Waiver Potential for Labrum Surgery with 3.5 Years Recovery?

Hello, I'm looking for some insight into my waiver odds for USMC. I posted something similar on r/Militaryfaq and r/army , but I want to explore all my options. I am an incoming freshman at Harvard/Princeton/Yale. Prior to the shoulder injury mentioned below, I won a 4-year Army ROTC scholarship but turned it down because I decided to instead enlist active duty after getting my degree (plan to do 4 years and then pivot). This plan worked out in my favor considering the shoulder recovery would keep me from a year's worth of ROTC and would likely hurt my OML branching prospects.

Medical History:

  • 2 years ago: Dislocated my shoulder
  • This past spring: subluxation of the same shoulder
  • Had an MRI showing a significant labral tear and a Hill-Sachs lesion.
  • I am getting corrective surgery this Christmas (Bankart repair). I will have all of college (3.5+ years post-op) to do rehab, and I plan to keep everything related to my shoulder well-documented
  1. Given that I am going the enlistment route and will be 3+ years post-op by the time I graduate and hit MEPS, how are my odds for an enlistment medical waiver?
  2. Does having a degree actually help move the needle with the Waiver Authority, or is the medical review completely blind to who the applicant is?

I know it’s an automatic DQ at MEPS initially. I just want to know if I'm fighting a losing battle or if a perfectly stable shoulder + non-medical context gives me a strong shot at getting approved. I will definitely take anything I can get, so with that in mind, will it be easier to secure a waiver for the officer or enlisted side? Thanks

Not showing up to bootcamp on ship day?

I know im a bitch, I’ve made my mind up months ago that I don’t want to join but the peer pressure was too strong.

Today is my ship day, I went to meps this morning and swore in the second time (active duty)

I’m waiting at the airport my flight is around 9 to MCRD.

I just want to know what the consequences are if I just leave and go home. Will I be arrested/will I get warrants that local police back home can see? I don’t want to join anymore

SOI WEST ITB

Waiting to start up ITB.

What's the libo like? Is there lots to do ON base during the weekend? I know phones get taken and reissued Friday or Saturday.

Just wondering if there's fun stuff to do on base in/near SOI. Not looking to off base and blow all my money.

bootcamp buns

For the ladies in the marine corps, when you were all in bootcamp, was having a part in your hair allowed? (Just a straight line no zigzags) or were you only allowed to just have it slicked back? Answers would be deeply appreciated!

Can you get a medical waiver for a -10.00 eye prescription?

I have a -10.00 prescription and 20/800 vision (My eyes are otherwise healthy) and correctable to a full 20/20 with glasses and I am aware this is below the acceptable limit, I wanted to know how difficult it is to get a waiver for vision this bad, if possible at all. This is also my only disqualifying trait.

Should I join?

I have just turned 28. I have a masters degree in filmmaking which honestly hasn’t gotten me much but a lot of student loan debt. Are the benefits worth it after 4 years ? Are there any artistic MOS jobs? Is it too late for me to qualify ? Just want to know if I’ll be losing time or not.

How bad is this?

I am supposed to ship out for boot camp in October and I just tried to run my first mile yesterday. I did 0.82 in 13:30. Granted, I had only fast food and little water today on the treadmill with no shoes on. How bad is this? Im 155lbs and fairly muscular but not used to cardiovascular conditioning so this was my first time really trying to run.

Conflicted

I'm a 20 year old college student. It's been a goal of mine ever since I was 15 to become a United States Marine. I've done my best to become physically fit and pass the IST in that time.

I also happen to struggle a lot with mental health. Since the start of the New Year, my self-esteem has been at an all time low and I don't even go outside anymore unless to do the bare minimum, and I've struggled a lot with eating disorders. I don't socialize with anyone anymore except my own family and the people at my RSS.

I have actively refused to seek treatment for my mental health and my disordered eating behaviors that I use ultimately to make height and weight and keep my weight managed. I don't want to give up on this dream though, I've already lost well over 100 pounds in the past 2 years and have been PTing for months on end to be ready to go to MCRD SD and earn the title.

I have an otherwise clean medical background - I've already been cleared by MEPS. However, that could easily be ruined if I decide to go to a therapist, psychiatrist, etc. which would get pulled by Genesis show up at MEPS, and almost certainly derail my goal of becoming a Marine. This means a lot to me, and I’ve been trying to toughen it out.

I would really appreciate any new perspective by anyone else as I don't want to confide in anyone that I know in real life about this.

MRP Parris Island - Questions

Hi,
My boyfriend was sent to MRP1 because he said he was limping at the end of his 3 mile run in time for his PFT and had a probable fracture in his hip. this was May 17-18 (I think) and he called his family that Monday and told him all of that. He also had something wrong with his ankle which I don’t know what but something less major than hip.
The first time I got a call was Saturday May 23rd around noon for 8 minutes.. and he said he’d been in MRP1 for 4 days, he thinks he’d come home before July because of his hip and the fact he doesn’t want to stay that long to recover, he’d rather just come home. Also said he’s in crutches.

The next call was Saturday May 30th 8:40 am but I missed his call in the morning due to work. He called me again at 7:02pm, but it was only around 3 minutes.

He just told me he’d be getting his MRI June 4th and that he’d probably come back June 20th or earlier. He said he’d call me again next Saturday.

I was waiting yesterday for a call (Saturday June 6th) but nothing. Asked if his sister or his parents were called but they said nope. Is it possible for him to call today? and if not then when should I expect anything? Is his estimate of June 20th or earlier feasible? Sorry about the long post, I just wanted to see if anybody else has been through this? If they experienced missed calls and got one later in the week, or if I wait till next week. And if he is medically discharged or what how long will that take?

How often does infantry train?

I understand the reality of the hurry up and wait and the police calls but other than that how much does the infantry get to do practical work?
Do they see the range or do drills semi frequently?
Does it differ for units like FAST company?

HPV in dep

I had HPV couple years ago, got it taken care of and started the process of enlisting a couple months ago and went through the medical screening at meps and didn’t think anything of it. Then fast forward to last week when I discovered that some of the warts came back. I don’t really know what to do I ship out in August and I’m worried that it will dq me.

Air Force to USMC

I'm planning on enlisting into the marines after my USAF contract finishes. (The plan is to join in as MG, and if I get selected for embassy protection then MSG all the way). The recruiter told me that once once I start the process, I'll have to get a waiver...but im not sure what the waiver is for, I have no injuries, no LOCs/LORs, really anything derogatory, nor have I had anything prior to joining. Im more than willing and ready to go into bootcamp, but what could the waiver be for if there's nothing wrong?
