Why would a GM dealer say not to use CarPlay in a new '26 GMC Sierra?

My parents just got a new '26 GMC Sierra. I asked them if they set up CarPlay or if they needed help with that. They said "No, the guy told us not to use CarPlay...it could cause issues and void the warranty or something like that. He told us to use the built-in Google one and 'Hey Google'."

What? That's just a flat out lie. Why would he say that though? What incentive is there for them or GM? Is it just so GM can track them better through Google?

I bought a '26 Chevy Silverado from a different dealer a few months ago, and they never mentioned anything like that, nor have I had a single issue with CarPlay. I have not seen anyone online have issues with it either. I also think this dealer is a bit shadier and pushier than the one where I bought my Silverado.

my605Drive showing old car I no longer have

Anyone familiar with my605Drive?

I bought a new car a few months ago and did everything I needed to at the courthouse. Vehicle registration renewals are coming up soon, so I log into my605Drive and it says I own two vehicles.

Only my new vehicle shows up as needing renewal, so that's good at least. How do I remove the old vehicle from my account? Do I need to contact someone? Did someone at the courthouse goof? I see I can archive it on the 'More...' tab, but the main screen still says I have two vehicles when it's archived.

AmFam Insurance - Apparently missed out on full pay discount, can agent add it back?

I bought a new vehicle a couple months ago and worked with my insurance agent to get a new policy for it last month. The declarations page stated that the premium was $1200, or $1100 with the full pay discount. I figured I'd get the full pay discount if/when I make the first payment in full, so I set up auto pay to use my checking account and to make the payment in full a week before the due date. The agent even reviewed my account and told me it's set to withdraw the full amount in May. I thought I was golden.

The site is now telling me it will withdraw $1,200. After doing a little more digging and stumbling across this page, I was apparently supposed to pay it in full right away in order to get that discount. How am I supposed to know that if the declarations page or my insurance agent didn't tell me? The declarations page isn't a bill, and I didn't get my first bill until last week (which also shows the $1200 amount). Is it even worth reaching out to him to explain the situation and see if he can add the discount back?

Lane assist was "off center" during a drive; is there a way to reset it?

Yesterday, during a drive I've always done, the lane assist feature seemed to be off center.

It kept wanting to push me back to the left when I was 2-3 feet away from the white line on the right side of the road. If I drifted over the center line, it wouldn't even push me back in, it just started beeping if I drifted too far over. Normally, both of these would push me back in when I was 1 foot or so away from the lines. Additionally, if I did drive center in my lane, the lane assist lines on my cluster display were orange, indicating I wasn't center, but I was. I could feel my steering wheel fighting me a little bit.

What would cause this, and is there any way to reset this during a drive? I turned the feature off and back on, but that didn't help. Maybe I needed to leave it off longer? It behaved fine again on my drive back home later that day. Is turning the car off for a while the only way to reset it?

Anyone familiar with how this works? My premium is $1200, but should be $1100 if I pay it all at once.

I've got AutoPay set up, it's linked to a checking account, and set to pay the full amount when it's due...which is how my agent told me it should be set up.

On the Edit AutoPay screen last week, if I'm remembering correctly... I believe the "preview payment" amount was switching between $1200 and $1100 depending on whether I had my credit card or checking account selected. I set it to use my checking account.

However, when looking at it now, the preview says $1200 no matter what. It's coming due in a couple weeks and it's saying it will pay $1200 on the 21st. Is it not going to do the full pay discount anymore for some reason? Do I need to get my agent involved again?

Do SOX auditors not have anyone that understands code development?

We go through this every year... We provide screenshots after screenshots showing SoD; that developers can't deploy to production, and that production admins can't change code.

This year, they were like "yeah...we don't think that's the only way to deploy code, there must be an override somewhere." We asked for specifics. They couldn't tell us, but said they were going to consult with their "internal Azure DevOps experts". They eventually requested more screenshots of stuff that doesn’t even apply to our source control system. We sent them links to Microsoft's documentation that explains stuff, but they still don't get it. We eventually had to pull in a Microsoft rep just so they can get answers straight from the horse's mouth.

Some of the other things they ask for are just silly. Once, they asked for screenshots of the dates on DLLs to prove that they were compiled at a certain time. Don't they realize someone could just decompile the DLLs, change code, and rebuild it? Or easily change the dates via PowerShell?

I use a few social networking apps and web apps (PWAs). These apps should show that I'm online when I'm using the app, and eventually mark me as away or offline when I haven't been in the app for a while.

Ever since I've upgraded to iOS 26 in September, I've been getting messages more often in these apps when I should have been away/offline automatically. Some people have started getting upset when I wasn't responding because they're thinking I'm online when I'm not. I had a friend check my accounts when I haven't been logged in for a few hours, and they were saying that I was online or recently online.

It has come to my realization that this may be caused by the app switcher. If I pull up the app switcher and scroll through my open/suspended apps, it may put me back online even though I never reopened the app. The same goes if I swipe up to force close it; it may put me back online even though I didn't reopen the app.

This morning, I opened the app switcher and closed all my apps that I had open from yesterday. Suddenly, people thought I was online again. Going through the app switcher or force closing apps hours later has never caused this behavior before.

Has anyone noticed anything similar? Did something change?

I purchased an item on eBay that listed the shipping cost as $40 UPS ground shipping. The seller just called and left a voicemail saying that the freight was ridiculous shipping from Texas to a few states up north and told me to call him back. He also cancelled my order with a cancellation reason of "Issue with buyer's shipping address." My address was correct; he just didn't want to pay the shipping cost.

I don't really care to be working or fighting with him to ship it to me. I'll just buy the item from someone else. But is this cancellation behavior allowed? I mean, why list a flat rate if you don't know what it's going to be or aren't going to honor it? And why pin the issue on me if you undercharged? That doesn't sound like a good seller to me. Is this something I should be reporting to eBay?

First off, yes, I know Parallels' auto renewal practice is shady. I agree, you don't need to tell me. No, I won't switch to VMWare or some other virtualization tool. I've tried them. They don't come close to Parallels' performance and features.

My renewal is coming up in 30 days, and as most of you know, they charge full price despite other promotions going on. If I cancel my subscription now, they immediately offer a 25% discount for the next renewal.

So, do I:

  1. Cancel and accept the 25% discount? Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
  2. Cancel and not accept the 25% discount? Will they offer me a better discount later to get me back?
  3. Cancel and not accept the 25% discount, and buy a new subscription that's 35% off now?
    1. Will this even work, or is it only for new customers?
    2. If it does work, I assume I would end up with two subscriptions/licenses? My old one that that would expire in a month, and a new one that would expire in a year?
  4. Something else?
