Better quarries with new patch and surface brush tool

Better quarries with new patch and surface brush tool

At first I was disappointed that the new and improved cliff textures didn't come through a stone mining area's gray surface. When I tried to make a tiered quarry, it still just looked like a blob of gray from any direction. But then I realized that I could just put the official area in the bottom layer of the quarry, create the tiered layers outside of the area, and use the new surface brush tool to paint the cliffs with dirt. I'm not a heavy or super talented detailer, but I do like to tinker around with specific areas to make them look better, and this is by far the best quarry I've been able to make so far.

People who drive vehicles that look like cop cars expecting everyone in front of them to drive fast

Look, I don’t drive slow, but I’m also not flying down the interstate at 90 or zooming along the backroads I take to work at 20 over the limit. But then in the dim morning hours of my commute comes along some asshole on my tail in a black Ford SUV or a silver Dodge Charger. So I slow to the speed limit because I’m not risking a ticket on a bet that they’re not a cop in an unmarked vehicle. Then they tail me more aggressively because I’m not speeding up for them. I still don’t speed up, because cops drive like that too. Does it ever cross these folks’ minds that their vehicle choice might result in people around them driving a little slower?

EDIT: folks, I’m not saying I think people are doing this intentionally. If anything, I think almost everyone driving these cars—driving them like assholes, that is, because this isn’t an issue with people who are driving like a normal person—are completely oblivious and I’m suggesting they’re pretty clueless, driving around wondering “why does everyone in front of me drive slow???” when they’re literally sitting in the answer to their question.

The Skywalker saga should not extend to the Sequel trilogy.

Star Wars is the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. It's about Anakin's falls to the darkside and eventual redemption. It's about Luke being able to turn Anakin back to the light. The Skywalker saga told a beautiful story about a father and a son. It also told a important story about a republic that gave up their freedom for security that mirrors real history from the Roman Republic becoming the Roman Empire. The Star Wars Skywalker saga has a deep and thoughtful narrative that was not only impactful but had a mythic status for generations. I'm not going to ramble on how the Sequel trilogy was poorly written or how it destroyed legacy characters, but what it did do is muddy the importance of the original Star Wars story.

It was cruel and sadistic of Obi-Wan to leave Anakin to die a slow and painful death in lava rather than giving him a coup de grace

He was ordered by Yoda to kill Anakin. So be it, the mission was justified. However, once he had hacked Anakin's limbs off and had him crippled, lying on the ground right in front of a lake of lava, rather than finishing the job by applying his lightsaber to his head, he instead chose to gloat at him with his "you were the chosen one!" speech, loot his lightsaber, and leave him to slowly and painfully burn to death in lava.

He also told Anakin that he was his "brother" and that he "loved" him, but it was a very ironic thing to say while refusing to at least give his supposed former beloved brother the mercy of a quick death.

It's also ironic because torturing your defeated enemies while gloating at them is a typical Sith thing to do, whereas a good Jedi would kill his enemies quickly and avoid causing extensive unnecessary suffering.

How did Luke manage to beat Vader?

The Disney era has been good for one thing at least in portraying DV as this soulless killing machine capable of wrecking just about anyone he faces including a very experienced and equally capable Maul. After watching ROTJ for the umpteenth time I got to wondering how Luke was able to get the upper hand on his dad? He was pretty much rage swinging that saber, little technique just hacking away like a Jason with a machete. Vader has been shown to be able to parry or defend anything thrown his way. Was it mostly due to the force energy that his son was putting out that was able to overpower him especially in those final pushbacks before he stumbled and basically seemed like he gave up?

Obligatory “I saw Mando/Grogu and had a lot of fun; the Star Wars fandom is fucking dumb” post

uj/ as I suspected, it’s only being called a mashup of tv episodes because it’s based on a tv show. In reality it has a single primary narrative and character arc that’s split into distinct Acts that have their own set pieces and tones and is no more a TV episode mashup than any of the originals or prequels.

rj/ my favorite parts of the movie were when Dave Filoni stole the show. Give this man a fucking Oscar already.

Good indoor (AC) play spaces for little toddlers?

I have a 15 month old that’s just getting confident in his feet. Looking for options for the summer where we can let him play on a hot day that’s air conditioned and has a designated toddler area where we don’t have to watch for bigger kids zooming around.

Would've loved to have a S3 episode with this vibe

This concept art was originally made by Ric Lim for a cancelled game called Star Wars: Assault. I always liked this image for the frantic, almost hopeless situation the rebels were in yet determined to fight through.

Rogue One scratched this itch for me and certain sequences in Andor (Ghorman) but I would've loved to have one episode in S3 (if they'd made it) that places Andor in this kind of situation.

Does anyone feel bad for the engineers that Krennic killed? I don’t like that he killed them even after Galen revealed himself. They didn’t deserve death.

What exactly are the “AI kills us all” scenarios?

I follow a fair bit of reputable news and opinions on AI and all of it acknowledges there is a non zero chance that AI exponentially outgrows us and decides to make humanity extinct. But people always address this in a nervous chuckle and kinda leave it at that, and in all I’ve read and listened to, they never really elaborate on what that means in practical terms. Of course, I can see how the Terminator scenario of an AI having access to our nukes and using them against us and I can see how that’s plausible. And I suppose similarly one could make and unleash a 100% lethal superflu or other bio weapon. But is that basically it? Is that what people mean, or are there other scenarios in which we are literally made extinct?
