I’ve had this dress for over 10 years and never wore it

I’ve had this dress for over 10 years and never wore it. Can I save it?

My mom bought me this dress when I was in middle school, but I never found the right occasion to wear it. Then I grew pretty fast, so it started feeling a little short.

I found it again recently and noticed some of the stones on the necklace/collar detail have fallen off. But I still really love the back design, the bow, the lace, and the way the fabric shines in the light. It honestly feels more detailed than a lot of newer clothes I see now.

If I find similar stones and repair the collar detail, do you think it could still work today? How would you style it?

Should I keep these dresses?

I’m in my 20s and think both dresses are quite fussy. Any styling tips? They’re vintage pieces from my mum, bought more than ten years back.

Are these dresses suitable for office parties?

Another two dresses are from my mum’s wardrobe. I feel both of them look a little ornate and somewhat dated, and I have no idea what occasions I can wear them to. Should I hold onto them, and if so, how should I style them?

Are these pieces out of style?

They were purchased by my mum over a decade ago. I feel the design is a little ornate. Where can I wear these outfits? Should I keep them or get rid of them?

Thoughts on this dress?

Another dress from my mom’s closet, probably from 10 years ago.

I really like the collar and the more polished workwear vibe, but the dress feels a little short on me.

How would you style it to make it feel more balanced?

Found another 10-year-old dress from my mom’s closet

I love the collar, but it’s definitely a little shorter on me than I expected.

Could this still work for the office, or is the length doing too much? How would you style it, tights, blazer, loafers, boots?

How’s this Dress?

Classic dress from my mom, probably 10 years old. Obsessed with the collar, but it’s too short on me. Thoughts & styling ideas?

How risky is it to buy work clothes from smaller online boutiques?

I’m trying to build a more polished work / business-casual wardrobe, but I’m getting bored of the usual big retailers.

I keep seeing smaller online boutiques with pieces that look more unique, especially blouses, skirts, trousers, and structured jackets. The prices are not always super cheap, but they’re also not designer-level, so I’m tempted.

My worry is that work clothes need to fit well and look decent in person. If the fabric is thin, the tailoring is off, or returns are difficult, it becomes a much bigger problem than buying a casual top.

For those of you who buy workwear online, how do you decide whether a smaller website is worth trying?

Do you look for fabric composition, garment measurements, return policy, model photos, reviews, or something else? And have you ever found a smaller online store that was actually better than expected?

Trying on my mom’s matching set from 10 years ago. Does it still work in today’s office?

My mom pulled out some of her old clothes today and asked me to try this set on. It’s probably around 10 years old and very different from what I usually wear.

I associate this style with a more traditional professional look, maybe even a little Chanel-inspired. Since I rarely wear matching sets or tailored pieces, I’m curious what impression it gives.

Does it read as timeless and polished, or does it feel dated to you? Would you think twice if a younger coworker wore something like this to the office?

Trying on my mom’s suit from 10 years ago

Earlier today my mom pulled out some of her old clothes and asked me to try them on.

This set is probably around 10-15 years old and very different from what I usually wear.

Part of me thinks it looks elegant and timeless, but part of me wonders whether it feels too formal for everyday wear today.

I’ve never worn anything like this before, so I’m curious what impression it gives. What do you see when you look at it?

Trying to choose between two pairs of leather shoes for work

I’m choosing between two pairs of leather shoes for work and business-casual outfits.

One feels younger and more relaxed to me. Another feels more mature and polished. I can’t tell which one is more versatile without looking too serious.

Which would you pick, and what kind of outfits would you wear them with?

What makes an unfamiliar online clothing store feel trustworthy to you?

After getting more cautious with online shopping, I’ve realized I don’t only look for red flags anymore. I also look for green flags.

For me, a store feels more trustworthy when I can find:

- fabric composition
- garment measurements, not just body measurements
- front / back / close-up photos
- photos that show how the item moves or drapes
- a clear return policy
- realistic shipping times
- reviews that mention fit, height, usual size, or fabric feel
- product photos that look consistent across the site

I don’t need a store to be huge or perfect, especially if it’s a small brand, but I do need enough information to feel like I’m not gambling.

What makes you actually trust a clothing store you’ve never bought from before?

What makes you instantly distrust an online clothing store now?

I feel like I used to shop online mostly by vibe, but now I catch myself doing a full background check before buying even one dress.

My instant red flags are:

- no fabric composition listed

- no model measurements

- only one heavily styled product photo

- vague shipping times

- return policy hidden at the bottom of the site

- “one size” on structured clothing

- reviews that all sound the same

- product photos that look too perfect or slightly AI-ish

I don’t expect every brand to be perfect, especially smaller stores, but I do need enough information to feel like I’m not gambling.

What are your automatic no’s when shopping for clothes online now?
