Prices at the Natural

I have happily shopped here for many years and always felt that the quality of the produce was worth their higher prices.

However, yesterday, I was shocked by prices of some items that I had been buying there for years. Nectarines were $5.99/lb.— last year, I paid half that. A wedge of watermelon was $10 vs. last year’s price of $4-5 for a similar sized piece.

I know prices are going up everywhere but this is outrageous. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Il Poeta on Metro

This had been one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Always loved the food and the service was always professional, and warm.

Had dinner there Thursday. Service was extremely slow and waiters inattentive. One dish we ordered was extremely dry and overcooked but by the time the waiter asked if everything was ok, everyone else had already finished eating. All in all, extremely disappointing.

Anyone been there recently and noticed a change? Hoping this was just a bad night because we don’t want to write it off completely. But…with prices escalating… want to make choices that will not disappoint.

Textile Recycling

There used to be a guy at the farmers market that accepted used textile items for recycling. He is no longer there. I have things to get rid of which are not in good condition so not appropriate to donate. Are there any textile recycling bins in the neighborhood?

Barge Music

Anyone know if it is difficult to get into Barge Music now that it is free and located in the boat house in Brooklyn Bridge Park? How early do you need to get there in order to get seats? Is it often that people are turned away due to capacity limitations?

Woman “preaching” on Austin Street

Today on Austin Street around 5:00 pm there was a woman “preaching” in a style sometimes used in the subway. First time I saw/heard her. Anyone know any details—like, has she been here before? Will this become a regular thing? Was kind of disconcerting.

Want to practice in person NYC or via Zoom. Don’t want a class—just a conversation group. Beginner/advanced beginner level.
