Got headhunted for an amazing role and about to go on maternity leave

I had an interview with the internal TA (who reached out to me directly) and then had an interview with the hiring manager. I told the hiring manager towards the end as I felt it fair to be transparent as this would impact timing were they to give me an offer (as he had mentioned they were looking to fill this role by end of year which wouldn’t work for me). The TA had asked me the day before to let her know how the conversation went so I followed up by mail and told her I think it went well and that I’m soon to go on mat leave and to let me know feedback as I was still interested and feel I could be the right fit. The hiring manager had said he was really struggling to find the right person and I know that I would be great at this job, we had a good connection and my experience stacks up. When I told him about the mat leave he congratulated me and said he would reflect on this can come back to me. The thing that currently rides against me is timing. I live in Europe so plan to take 6 months at least of mat leave. I woild
Love to hear if anyone else has been in this situation (interview while pregnant / or hired some one who you knew was going on mat leave) - if you felt the candidate was the right one would you move forward or continue the search? How do I make sure that no matter what decision is taken I stay in this company’s good graces?

Headhunted for a global role and have my interview with hiring manager, soon to go on mat leave and need advice

I wasn’t looking as the title says I will shortly go on mat leave and I like my current job. However I got headhunted for a job that is a global director role (currently a regional manager) so this would be a massive step up (+40k in salary as well). Tomorrow I have the second interview with the hiring manager. As I mentioned, I’m currently pregnant and about to go on mat leave. Planning to disclose this tomorrow to be transparent, anyone been in this situation or could a hiring manager/recruiter let me know what the best strategy here is? I am very well aware this could take me out of the process but feel I need to be transparent given the timing

Major career opportunity just as I’m about to go on maternity leave

I’m at a crossroads and I really could use some advice from other working moms. I’m an ambitious woman working at a global multinational and I’m expecting my third child soon. I’ve been at my current company for 6 years and I have a good reputation, been promoted and also have a lot of flexibility which as a working mom you all know is gold! The office is also a 10 minute walk from my house and my kids school so we’re all in the neighbourhood. I have not been looking for a new role, also because I’m happy at my current job, and as I mentioned am about to go on maternity leave. Well long story short I was headhunted by another company in a similar sector for a role which would have a significant impact on my career and our family economics. The salary itself would be a 55% increase to what I currently make. I’m still in the interview process but I have a very good feeling that I could get an offer. Now I was planning to go on maternity leave for a year (I live in Europe so that’s possible here). Of course the company I am interviewing for doesn’t know I’m pregnant and I don’t plan on disclosing until (and if) I get an offer. My question is: is it worth pursuing something new considering I will be entering a new phase in life? In my current job I pretty much know what I’ll come back to, in the new job everything woild be new but as I said it would be a major step up in terms of job title, scope and responsibility and pay. I would love to hear any advice if someone has gone through this, all the things I I should think through etc. Should I stay in what I know, which is relatively secure (I say relatively as with large corporations it’s never super secure) or take a risk and do a jump considering I won’t really know what I’m going into…? Would love to hear any advice or stories shared! Thanks for reading this far along

Need advice

I have a bit of a dilemma and I could use your advice. I have a hard time saying no or changing plans especially when it comes to special occasions with people I care about. Long story short, tomorrow is my cousin’s wedding, which is a two hour drive from where we live. My kids are also not invited to the wedding (it’s a kid free wedding). My cousin is the son of my aunt who is one of the most important people in my life hence why this decision is hard to me. Plan a was we were all going to to (we have a summer house near the location) and my husband was going to stay with the kids while I joined my parents and sister at the wedding. Now the situation is that my daughter is sick and I’m debating whether to go anyway for 24 hours or stay home. Add to the mid that I have a work trip which will take me to another city Monday-Wednesday so already my husband will be parenting solo then and I’ll be away. Add to that that I’m pregnant and life in a city that is going through a heatwave. Anyway long story short - my heart is in both places, staying with my family as my daughter is ill and also I’ll be away next week, or go for the event and come back the next day which will be quite tough being pregnant and with this heat but as I said I would do it for my aunt. I would love to hear your points of views on this. Thank you!

Mom guilt is tough today and could use some support

I need a space to vent so thanks for allowing this space. I’m a working parent, fortunate that despite being in corporate I have a lot of flexibility (as does my husband) and we do our best to ensure our kids can attend birthday parties, activities etc. we live in a city in Europe and working hours are usually between 9-6 and most birthday parties for that reason are on the weekends. Long story short - my daughter and her whole class were invited to three kids joint birthday party today (where I live kindergarten is 3-6 year olds). It’s the big kids who will go to elementary next year so not in her year for school (she is 4, so two years younger). In any case, given it was a Tuesday and we both work full time and my son had his therapy session, we couldn’t bring her and she attended after school. There is also a whole thing of the parents of these kids being extremely toxic, they created a pretty bad vibe in the school this year and we’re just waiting for them to leave kindergarten so we can start afresh. So there were many factors we decided not to go, but time and day to week and working and sons therapy session were main reason.
Well today I go pick up my daughter with my son and I get told by the janitor that they tried to call me lots of times (I had no missed calls) and her after school teachers that she was crying so much because she didn’t get to go the party, I was told I should have delegated another mom to take her (this was by a teacher in front of my kids) etc. I was shocked. First of all half the class weren’t able to go and we all have our reasons (again, the party was Tuesday at 4.30pm, not really a time most working parents can do). Secondly, we literally attend everything and this is the one we really couldn’t. Thirdly I am just shocked how the school handled it, guilting me about all this, and I felt so so bad after. I realised my daughter was more sad her friends didnt do after school programme more than the party (again she’s 4), and the way it was handled. I was made to feel like the worst parent in the world that my daughter wasn’t at this party even though “everyone was invited.” I literally have no words and of course I also feel like a shit mother, but I really feel a mountain was made over a molehill. We explained to my daughter why we couldn’t bring her today, that we’re sorry but we both work and that not all her friends went (which is true it’s just that they didnt do after school). Anyway this is more of a vent than anything else but I just feel so guilty. If anyone has any stories to share - or how to try to not give a fuck - I’m all open to feeling better. Again my daughter is a super mature 4 year old and she’ll get over it, it’s more the way the school handled it and made me feel in front of both my kids that has me reeling.

Labour time for third baby

I’m interested in hearing how long labour was for women already with two kids. My first was a very long labour and my second was extremely quick (4 hours from the first contraction) and intensified quickly, so quickly that she was born unplanned at home. I’m pregnant with the third and passed the mid point of pregnancy now so starting to physically and mentally prepare for birth. Can I expect a similar short labour with this baby? Thank you for sharing your experiences!

**thanks for all the comments which have been very enlightening to read! A lot of third child is the wild card so I guess we’re in for a ride with this one! Kind of hoping it will be short and sweet like the second (but at a hospital!) thanks again, it’s been great reading through all the stories and just shows me how much as mamma rock! You all inspire me!**
