How does the Amex Membership Rewards program actually compare to the Qantas and Velocity points ecosystems when you sit down and calculate what the points are genuinely worth across different redemption options?

The ability to transfer Membership Rewards points to multiple frequent flyer programs sounds like a significant advantage but whether that flexibility actually translates into better value than earning airline points directly - when you account for the transfer ratios, the availability of reward seats and what the points are worth at the redemption options most people can realistically access - is a calculation that the marketing around Amex cards doesn't always make straightforward. Would love to know how people here who've thought about this properly have landed on which ecosystem produces the best real world value for their specific spending and travel patterns.

Is it even worth transferring to international partners anymore?

With partners like Cathay, British Airways, Etihad, and Qatar all sitting at that rough 3:1 ratio, and Emirates costing a painful 4:1, the points cost for international premium cabins has skyrocketed. To book a one way business class ticket to Europe now requires a truly staggering amount of raw Amex points compared to this time last year.

What’s an offer you wish you’d discovered sooner?

For me it was the Up Bank referral offer. I ignored it for ages because I assumed it would be one of those tiny sign-up bonuses that wasn’t worth the effort, but it ended up being one of the easiest offers I’ve done. Looking back, I probably missed out on a fair bit by not paying attention to these sorts of offers sooner.

Has anyone had a parcel arrive weeks late without any explanation for the delay?

I’ve got a parcel that seems to have completely fallen into a black hole. The tracking barely changed for ages, then days turned into weeks with no explanation about what was causing the delay. I don’t even mind waiting if I know what’s going on, but the lack of updates is what’s driving me mad. Has anyone else had a parcel turn up weeks later after it looked like nothing was happening?

What is your strategy for gaming the fuel price cycles?

I’ve been using the 7-Eleven fuel lock aggressively and tracking the independent stations on the 5 day rolling averages, but I still feel like I'm getting caught out.

Is it worth doing a Honours year or should I just try to get a job?

I’m finishing my degree next year and trying to decide whether to do Honours or go straight into the job market. I’ve heard mixed opinions about whether it actually helps with grad applications. Current students or recent grads, did you do Honours? Was it worth it for your career?

The moment you realise that watching lectures later is not the same as keeping up week to week is when your entire weekend disappears

I kept telling myself I’d just catch up on lectures in my own time, but it never really works out like that. By the time the weekend comes around, I’m stuck trying to cram everything I ignored during the week and it just eats up all my free time. Feels like I’m always one step behind and paying for it later when I actually want to relax. Does that happen to everybody?

Is the new Brisbane Airport Super-Hub actually speeding anything up, or are parcels just getting lost faster?

AusPost just spent a fortune opening that massive automated "Mookin-Yaba" hub at Brisbane Airport to "revolutionize delivery speeds." Well, I’ve had an Express Post package sitting there as "In Transit / Delayed" for five consecutive days now. It feels like they built a giant, automated black hole. If everything is tracked by state-of-the-art sortation tech, why does my local depot have zero visibility on it? Anyone else seeing their Queensland-bound tracking entirely stall since the hub went live?

How plausible is Treasury's "Severe Scenario" modeling of inflation peaking above 7% without triggering a technical recession?

In the budget papers, Treasury presented an alternative downside risk matrix where global oil prices peak at $200 a barrel and take three years to normalize. Under this model, unemployment ticks up to pre-pandemic levels and inflation breaches 7%, but GDP growth remains marginally positive. Given the current vulnerability of household balance sheets after three consecutive rate hikes this year, is the assumption of "avoiding a recession" under $200 oil realistic? What hidden buffers is Treasury relying on in their wealth-effect calculations- is it purely sustained population growth, or are they overestimating the resilience of corporate capex pipelines?

Is anyone actually getting higher-paying surveys under the new Pureprofile "Elite" tier update?

Pureprofile recently rolled out their app tier update, claiming that users who maintain a 95% completion rate will get unlocked for higher-paying exclusive corporate panels. I’ve been sitting in the top tier for a week now, but my dashboard still looks like the exact same stream of $1.20 screeners that dump me out after 5 minutes of profiling questions. Is anyone actually noticing a genuine bump in their average hourly return, or is this "Elite" ranking just a psychological trick to get us to stop rushing through the answers?

Has anyone tested the new Find & Recode update with Lock Dates yet?

The latest product release notes confirmed a massive quality-of-life update: if a lock date is set for all users, you can now finally include those transactions in your Find & Recode search results without having to unlock the entire period first. This has been a massive headache for years when doing historical cleanups. Does the system flag a warning before you actually apply a bulk recode to a locked period, or does it process smoothly as long as you have adviser-level access?

What app integrations are actually worth paying for with Xero?

There are so many add-ons now that it’s hard knowing what genuinely improves workflow versus just adding another monthly subscription.

People who “reserve” library monitors for half the day are so frustrating

Spent most of today studying on the postgrad floor and swear half the monitors were occupied by abandoned water bottles and hoodies instead of actual students. Some desks sat untouched for HOURS while people kept walking around trying to find somewhere to work. I get taking a coffee break, but at some point it just becomes claiming territory.

Six months in: Has the GR Supra officially "grown on you," or do you still miss the Holden/Ford binary?

Now that we’ve seen the Supras on track in four different states/countries, what’s the verdict on the aesthetics? The WAU Mobil1 Optus livery looks sharp, but does the car actually sound like a Supercar to you? I was at Ruapuna and the downshifts sounded "different" compared to the Mustang and Camaro. Is the three-manufacturer era everything we hoped for, or has it lost that classic Aussie "Red vs. Blue" soul?

With the 5% Deposit Scheme and 4.35% cash rate, is $800k even a "starter" budget anymore?

I’m looking to buy my first place in Melbourne. Even with the government's 5% deposit scheme, the monthly repayments on an $800k property at current rates are looking like $5,400+. To the brokers: are FHBs actually still active in May 2026, or has the market completely shifted to "Upgraders only"? What is the absolute minimum income a single person needs right now to get a $600k loan approved without a guarantor?
