RBC REPRESENTATIVE STOLE MY MONEY
I’m just going to start off by saying, I’ve been with RBC for almost 15 years without switching to any other bank. Today’s the day where I said this is enough. I had a charge on my account that I questioned and wanted to call RBC about because it was such a large transaction. Immediately when I call and answer all of the security questions, they transfer me and then I had to do it all over again to then find out that they transferred me to the wrong department. This happened 6 times until I actually got the right department. One of the agents I spoke to that asked me for my CVV and expiry date on my virtual visa as their “security questions” and without questioning it I gave it to them since I know this was the RBC phone number because I called the number on the back of my client card. After giving him my CVV and expiry he then told me I was still in the wrong department. About 20 minutes later while I’m on the phone still with an RBC representative, I see a charge on my account come through for $85.15 that I DEFINITELY didn’t make. I asked the RBC representative what the charge was for and apparently it was for “Osmows”. I haven’t ordered osmows in years because their shawarma is disgusting and it turned me off from ever ordering from them again. I explained that one of the RBC agents asked me for my CVV and expiry date for my virtual visa but I didn’t remember his name because I’ve spoken to so many agents already and all of them were East Indian names. Anyways, after explaining all of that to the agent, she put in a dispute for the charges as well as filing a complaint against the agent so they can preview my call logs and determine who stole my information. They said it’ll take 15 business days to come up with a conclusion even though I had next to no money left in my account. RBC said they can’t help me whatsoever when it comes to my funds in my bank account other than setting up an overdraft for the account which I obviously declined. So because of this I am now moving everything I have over to BMO. I had a bunch of my friends and colleagues let me know that BMO has a $700 promotion right now if I switch everything I have over to them right now, as well as they haven’t had any issues with this bank. (I obviously know all banks have issues, but this was my last straw with RBC). RBC also recommended me to visit my closest branch to see what they can do for me, but ultimately was the same thing as it was when I called in. I wasted an entire work day today because of this and RBC is also refusing to provide me any compensation for causing me such distress today because they can’t prove that it was one of their agents who stole my money until the 15 business days are up. And even then, because of their awful confidentiality policy, they cannot release the name of the agent who stole my money either, so I cannot bring his name to the police even when they find out it was said agent who stole my money. So I pulled the rest of my money out of my account and immediately opened an account with BMO. Will never be going back.
EDIT: I forgot to add, the last agent changed my virtual Visa card number after this happened. I received a notification on my RBC app saying someone was trying to attempt using my previous card for Amazon and it was $76. I immediately declined it so it never went through and they stopped trying to use it after that.
