On my hike today at cottonwood lakes, California, i saw a ton of these blazed trees

I’m not a scientist or an expert so just curious how come some trees can appear totally torched but other nearby trees look fine? What’s the science/explanation of this?

Don’t mind me I’m just blistering some shishito peppers at Alabama Hills! Epic campsite

And it’s free! Just apply for a permit and you get 14 days in a year

Wildcat Loop at Monument Valley, Utah

PSA for calisthenics lovers 😂 you can also smash some pullups right at the start of the wildcat loop. Highly recommend for a full body workout

I was at canyonlands today with visible wildfire spreading (seemingly) aggressively. Rangers were super chill but i felt off and left anyways. Am i overreacting?

So my wife and i were hiking in canyonlands and saw a huge fire in the distance coming our way. Winds were extremely strong and we were worried of it spreading and also didn’t feel safe camping overnight with all that smoke coming our way

We quickly finished the hike and rushed to the visitors center where I checked with rangers. They said it was 30 miles away but tbh that doesn’t seem that far? Was i overreacting to leave the park? This looked and felt really dangerous

UPDATE: on 6/28, @canyonlandsnps announced on instagram the needles district is closed and everyone must evacuate

what’s your guys’ #1 tip to not stop running when you get a little tired/bored

I’ve been inconsistently running for maybe 6mths now, and for whatever reason I always hit a serious mental wall at around the 40 min mark (doesn’t matter how slow or fast I am running)

Sometimes I am not even physically tired, I am literally just bored

What do you guys do to get past this?

best casual run clubs in SG?

i travel to SG for work so am here sporadically, wondering if there’s any good casual clubs to join

typically go for runs anywhere from 30-60 min and down to do longer runs on the weekend (90-120min)

lately when i come back from my runs my wife says i smell like rusty iron. has anyone experienced this before? i don't typically have BO and i'm not running hard enough to taste blood in my throat. not sure why i smell like that. should i be concerned?

I train almost daily w/ as much variety as possible (running, weightlifting, HYROX classes). but for whatever reason when I do my runs, I have really inconsistent experiences with my breathing. sometimes I am totally out of breath within 5 minutes, and other times I can run thru a brick wall

does this happen to anybody else? I go for annual checkups and nothing has ever been flagged

FWIW I was diagnosed with asthma like 4 years ago, but even that is really inconsistent. Sometimes I'll go 2 months without ever needing to puff my inhaler, then suddenly I'll go for a run and just be totally breathless

should I be concerned or is this just normal asthma?

how much emphasis does the ultra running community put on elevation?

sup everyone, i recently just completed my very first trail race on Mount Rinjani in Indonesia. i completed the 27km category which included 1800m of elevation

i saw a tiktok of someone mentioning that for every 100m of elevation, you can calculate an additional 1km of distance... so in this case my total effort was actually 27+18 = 45km

i know it's not officially an ultra but does this still get the same level of "respect" if you guys get what i mean?
