Moving to Marion

Hi everyone! We’re planning to move to Marion and are an Asian-Canadian family of three. My husband recently got a job there paying around $75,000/year, and I wanted to ask if that would be enough for a family of three to live comfortably in Marion?

I’d also love to hear about:

  1. What are the typical rental rates for a 2-bedroom apartment/house?
  2. How is the crime/safety situation, are there particular neighborhoods you would recommend or avoid?
  3. How welcoming is Marion to Asian families/newcomers?

Thank you!

EDIT: Thank you, everyone! I really appreciate all your replies. Indeed, this is an overwhelming step for our family, but I feel much better after reading the things you’ve shared. We hope to become part of and contribute positively to the Marion community. ❤️

Is this enough to file a police report? Someone may be using my phone number.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something like this before.

I'm from London, Ontario, and last Tuesday, I received several calls and text messages from a delivery driver saying he had a package to deliver and needed my apartment buzzer number. Since I was expecting deliveries, I thought it was a package for me, so I gave him my buzzer number. He then told me it wasn't working, called again, and even sent me a photo of the shipping label.

When I looked at the label, I realized the package wasn't for me. It was addressed to someone in Kitchener, ON, but it had my phone number on the shipping information. Since it wasn't my package, I assumed my phone number had just been entered by mistake and didn't think much of it.

Then last night, I received an email saying that my Petro-Points had been redeemed. I was at home in London and definitely didn't redeem any points. I logged into my account and saw that the redemption happened at Store ID 65005, which is also in Kitchener, the same city where that package was being delivered.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but the timing and the location make me feel uneasy. I'm worried someone could be using my phone number for transactions or account verification, and that this could lead to more fraud or identity theft.

I've already changed my Petro-Points password and I'm planning to file a police report. Has anyone experienced something similar?

University Degree + Grade 12 Prereqs: Do I Still Need Pre-Health for MRT or Practical Nursing?

I have a university bachelor's degree (non-healthcare) and completed one year of a three-year college diploma, but I didn't finish the program.

I'm planning to apply for either Medical Radiation Technology (MRT) or Practical Nursing next year. I'm wondering if completing the required Grade 12 prerequisites (biology, chemistry, etc.) along with my university degree would be enough to be considered for admission, or if I would still need to take a Pre-Health program.

Has anyone been admitted with a similar background? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

Anyone get into Fanshawe Practical Nursing or MRT from Mohawk Pre-Health?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to take Pre-Health at Mohawk College and then apply to Fanshawe Practical Nursing or Medical Radiation Technology.

Has anyone been accepted from Mohawk Pre-Health? If so, what was your GPA/average?

Thanks!

Anyone get into Western's Compressed Nursing with a 3.11 GPA?

Hi! Did anyone get accepted into Western University's Compressed Nursing (CTF) program with around a 3.11 GPA (about 78% based on Western's grading scale) from a previous bachelor's degree? I'm planning to apply next year, but I feel my GPA is quite low, so I'm having second thoughts about whether it's worth applying. I'd love to hear about your experience. Thanks!

Winter Pre-Health to Fall RPN

Hey everyone,

Quick question about timelines.

I’m starting Pre-Health this coming Winter. My goal is to get into the RPN (Practical Nursing) program for the Fall. Can I apply for Fall RPN while still finishing up my Winter Pre-Health courses?

How does that work with the Feb 1st deadline and mid-term grades? Has anyone done this path before? Thanks!

Fanshawe Pre-Health Waitlist

Hi everyone,

I applied to the Pre-Health Sciences program at Fanshawe (London), and when I checked my application status, it shows: "WL Position: Not Available"

I'm not sure what this means.

Has anyone had this status before and still received an offer?

I'm hoping to start this September, so I'm wondering if there's still a realistic chance of getting accepted before classes begin, or if I should assume the program is full.

If anyone has experienced this or knows what "WL Position: Not Available" means, I'd really appreciate your insight.

Thanks in advance!

Thinking of dropping Computer Programming and switching to Nursing at 34

I'm 34F and currently studying Computer Programming, but I'm seriously considering switching to Nursing. When I first started, my goal was to eventually move into AI Engineering or Data Analytics/Data Science after gaining some experience and continuing my education. But the more I learn about the current tech job market, the more uncertain I feel about that path.

If I stay in programming, I'll likely graduate around 37.

One of my biggest goals is to have a career that I can realistically work in until I'm 60 or beyond. From what I've seen, tech seems to have some challenges that worry me:

  1. Ageism

  2. Offshoring of jobs

  3. AI replacing or reducing entry-level opportunities

  4. Job insecurity and frequent layoffs

  5. Very few entry-level positions compared to a few years ago

  6. Some of the material at my school seems outdated (around 6 years old)

That said, there are things I genuinely like about tech:

  1. Remote work opportunities

  2. I'm an introvert

  3. I enjoy working with computers and solving technical problems

For the women in tech, especially those who have been in the industry for a while, would you still recommend pursuing this field today?

And for those who recently graduated or entered the industry, how long did it take you to secure your first job? Was it a developer role, IT support, QA, data-related role, or something else?

I'd also love to hear from anyone who switched into tech later in life or from anyone who chose nursing instead. Looking back, would you make the same decision again?

I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.
