Who should be the "anchor" character to launch a novel-based Superhero Universe

I’m trying to figure out which type of hero should kick off the first book and act as the "anchor" character to launch the universe (similar to how Iron Man launched the MCU, but for prose).

Chainsmoker Cat (Yani Neko). It's just trash.

I've seen people comparing Chainsmoker Cat to other chaotic/unhinged comedies, but to me, it completely misses the mark.

A show like Gintama is famously absurd and has plenty of low-brow humor, but it has class. It has actual heart, great character relationships, and it can seamlessly pivot into serious, emotionally heavy arcs because the characters are actually written with depth.

Chainsmoker Cat has none of that. It’s just "weird for the sake of being weird" and relies entirely on being gross. Once the shock value of a chain-smoking catgirl wears off, there is absolutely nothing left underneath. It feels like it was written for a very specific, young edgelord demographic.

Friendly reminder: You don’t need to be a "master artist" to make an incredible comic.

I see so many writers or beginner artists holding back because they think their art "isn't good enough."

Look at webcomics like the original One-Punch Man, xkcd, or South Park (for animation). They proved that story, panel layout, humor, and heart matter way more than perfect anatomy.

If you have a story to tell, start drawing it now. Your art will naturally improve the more pages you finish anyway. Don't let standard expectations stop you from creating!

The Maritime Guardian: Hydriad

Paul was one of the 1,700 individuals who inherited a piece of the essence left behind by Captain Valor (Aaron Cohen) following his death in 1957. When the powered community faced systemic oppression in the late 20th century, Paul joined The Protectors back when they were still operating under their original name, The Protestors—a civil rights group fighting for the rights of the empowered.

Alongside teammates like Solstar, The Revenant, and Power Mistress, Paul transitioned the group into a proactive, premier superhero team as the 1990s rolled into the 2000s. Operating under the name Hydriad, he utilized high-tier water manipulation abilities to protect civilians and secure threats.

During his tenure, the Protectors were heavily scrutinized by the public and internal factions due to the unstable, controversial actions of teammates like Shrinker and Speed Blitz.

The Prodigal Daughter: Francesca Rossi

Francesca Rossi, known to the underworld as "Frankie" or "The Prodigal Daughter," is the 24-year-old acting head of the notorious Rossi Crime Syndicate.

Facing immediate border friction from rival Colombian cartels, Francesca sought to pivot the syndicate away from traditional front-facing real estate assets and into highly volatile, high-reward territory

Francesca's reign as the absolute "Boss" was short-lived. During a chaotic raid on a Colombian warehouse district to secure the alien serum, her operations completely dissolved

Francesca's arrest highlights the deep political friction between local authorities and Aegis City’s costumed vigilantes.

The "Helpess": Acadian

In a world where only 1,700 people possess superpowers, a powerless 15-year-old named Kiran is desperate to join the prestigious superhero team, The Protectors. While his friends and sister effortlessly manifest abilities, Kiran relies entirely on his own custom-designed suit's determination to prove he belongs in the program—completely unaware that a dormant, ancient heritage is waiting to awaken within him.

The Barbarian: Borin

He was a Barbarian warrior, son of a slave father. He raised himself up to the top by killing every creature, including the famous Medusa. He was given a party and women, but then he was caught off guard and killed. He woke up after WWII, discovering that he now has immortality

The Ghoul Of The Damned: The Revenant

He was a classic noir detective—sharp suit, red vest, fedora, and a cynical worldview. He got too close to a conspiracy involving the city's highest elite and most corrupt syndicates. Ambushed and shot multiple times, he was left for dead in a pool of his own blood on a summoning circle or an ancient, forgotten site hidden beneath the city.

As his consciousness faded, he didn't find peace. Instead, he met Death—represented by the hooded, glowing-eyed entity in black. Death didn't just claim him; Death was fascinated by him. His burning rage, unresolved business, and raw willpower made him the perfect vessel. Death seduced his soul, offering him a terrible bargain: absolute vengeance and eternal life, but at the cost of his humanity. He accepted, falling into a deep, decades-long metaphysical slumber while his body altered.

He wakes up forty to fifty years later. The world has changed; it's the 1990s—grittier, louder, and technologically advanced, but just as corrupt. He claws his way out of the earth or an urban tomb. Initially, he looks like a blank, porcelain-white slate (the "pure soul" phase). As he embraces his dark reality, his physical form morphs into a gaunt, terrifying, hollow-chested wraith.

To walk among the living and hunt the descendants of those who wronged him, he throws on a weathered trench coat, hiding the literal hole in his chest where his heart used to beat.

THE SUN: SOLSTAR

After his historical fall and eventual mortal death, his soul did not simply fade. Instead, the Creator gave him a second chance—a cosmic opportunity for redemption. He was remade not just as a man, but as the ultimate guardian of the flock he originally failed to protect.

Reborn into the modern era, he took the name "Solstar," utilizing his primordial connection to humanity and his newly gifted celestial grace to act as a living shield against dark, existential threats. He feels a deeply paternal obligation to all of mankind. To him, every hero, villain, and ordinary citizen is, quite literally, his descendant.
