Pool for the whole soccer/hockey/baseball team?

We’re building a pool and trying to decide on size. Our kids all play team sports, so having 15-20 kids in the backyard all at once will likely happen multiple times a year.

For those of you in a similar situation, how big is your pool and how big do you wish your pool was?

Teachers can either adjust instruction for learners OR have lessons planned out for days, weeks and months to come. Not both.

I’ll die on this hill.

If a teacher can tell you exactly what they’re going to be teaching next Thursday at 10am, during math they are either lying, not adjusting instruction to meet learners’ needs, or a Grand Chess-master capable of seeing things 75 moves before they happen.

Don’t expect teachers to differentiate and make adjustments for their students _AND_ turn in scope and sequence for their year and lesson plans for the week.

Agent Under Fire Multiplayer was 🔥 AMAZING🔥

It was the first shooter game I recall that had boys, but even cooler were the Q-Claw (think SpiderMan swinging across NYC), Jet Pack, and the ability to turn on low gravity. My friends and I would spend hours flying through the air shooting at each other 60’ off the ground.

It was such a fun multiplayer experience.

The State Fair: Minnesota’s Favorite Walkable Neighborhood

Every year people from Minnesota come to the State Fairgrounds and endure high prices, traffic jams and crowds so they can walk around a massive, pedestrian only town.

Outside of the fair, some of these people support expanded trail systems, sidewalks, bike lanes, and other pedestrian-friendly initiative. However some do not.

I find this interesting.

Bad Driver Repellent

I ride with a small American flag waving from the back and it keeps truck bros from running me, actually the flag, over.

What tricks do you have for staying safe around truck bros, teens on their phones, the elderly, frat boys in Wranglers, stressed out minivan moms, and other common pests?

Favorite Bike Lane Memory

Twelve years ago I was biking down Hennepin Avenue bike lane during the morning commute. As I approached the Central Library I could see a Cadillac “boat” parked in the bike lane. Before I could get there a BMX bike turned onto Hennepin and proceeded to execute an Olympic-height bunny hop onto the trunk of the car from there they pedaled up the back, down the windshield and over the hood before continuing on their way.

The driver got out cursing and almost lost his door to a passing car.

While I saw many more cars parked in the lane, I never saw anything like that since.

All-time favorite bike lane memory.

What’s yours?

Shatter-Proof Tiki Glasses and Mugs

Small kids, pools, etc. There are many reasons a person might want tiki-style glassware and mugs.

Do you have any recommendations?

Sean Bean is famous for dying on screen many times, but which other actors and actresses have done _something_ on screen (ex. crashed a car, gotten married, etc.) many times?

Are illegal vehicle modifications EVER enforced?

Tires sticking out beyond the body of the vehicle, bumpers over 20” off the ground, coal rolling, noisy exhaust systems, tinted windows and more. All of these modifications are illegal.

Are people in Minnesota actually getting tickets for these things? Does anybody have first or second hand knowledge of these laws being enforced?

What is the worst “Missed Character Development Opportunity” inStar Trek?

I am rewatching Season 5 of TNG and in Silicon Avatar a scientist avenges their son‘s death by destroying the “crystalline entity,” the trust of the Federation, and their own career all at once. Picard didnt want to destroy the deadly crystalline entity because it had a right to live, too.

The scientist interacts a LOT with Data and Riker reflects on his feelings of revenge, but Worf plays a minor role. A ”normal” Klingon would have put revenge and honor way ahead of science or morality, but as Worf demonstrated earlier in the season he is no “normal” Klingon.

The writers missed a great opportunity to more deeply explore this issue and Worf’s ideas!

What are some other episodes where a character’s life experiences and personality would have enhanced the story, but it just didn’t happen?

Above-ground vs. In-ground regret

We all have different situations and reasons for choosing the pools we did.

Do any of you with above ground pools wish you had bought an in-ground? Conversely, do any of you with in-ground pools look back and think an above ground would have been a better choice?

Pools in the Cold North: Opinions and Advice

My family (2 adults, 2 kids) is considering getting a pool. We haven‘t decided whether we’d go with an above-ground or an in-ground pool.

A lot of the pool content online is for year-round pools, or at least places where the ground doesn’t freeze.

I’d love to hear advice and insights from other pool owners in cold, four season places where the ground freezes. What kind of pool do you have? What kind of pool do you wish you had? Salt water? Heating with gas or electric? Anything! Thanks.

Note: We have a low mortgage rate and really like our location so buying a new house that already has a pool isn‘t an option.

Pools in Minnesota: Yay or Nay?

My family is considering getting a pool. We’re comfortably middle class so this would be a major expenditure for us, but we can afford it. I’m wondering what other people in Minnesota think because our weather (cold) and geography (lakes) are pretty unique and r/pools is people who already decided to take the plunge. What kind of pool? How much did it cost? Things to consider? Recommendations?

Theme Day Adventure

What’s your best local theme day?

We’ve done themes around COUNTRIES (ex. Britain: Brit’s Pub, Shakespeare, and a proper game of football); MOVIES (Mighty Ducks: Kramarczuk’s (aka Goldberg’s), walking the Skyway, and State Hockey Tournament); and RANDOM (mini-golf, mini-donuts, and mini-dachshund competition).

What are your theme day ideas?
