I’ve been thinking about this because of my own relationships.
My ex and I had a lot of chemistry. I was very attracted to her, but I constantly felt uneasy because she would often prioritize her friends over me, spend weekends with them instead of me, had male best friends I wasn’t comfortable with, and I even caught her lying. Whether my suspicions were justified or not, I never felt secure in that relationship.
My current girlfriend is the complete opposite. She’s one of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve met. I trust her completely. She goes with male friends, and I genuinely don’t feel jealous or possessive. I don’t check up on her, I don’t worry, and I don’t question her intentions because I believe she’s a person with strong values.
But this has made me question something about myself.
The truth is, I’m also not as physically attracted to my current girlfriend as I was to my ex. That makes me wonder whether my complete lack of possessiveness comes purely from trust, or whether it’s also because I’m less emotionally invested in the possibility of losing her.
It made me realize that a boyfriend being completely non-possessive isn’t automatically a green flag. Sometimes it reflects trust and emotional security. Other times, it might also reflect lower romantic attraction or a lower fear of losing the relationship.
Has anyone else experienced this or thought about it this way?
