This year has a been a bit of a rollercoaster for me financially and Im wondering if im eligible to claim medical/WFH deductions. I have zero idea how this works or if its worth it or if i even understand what deductions are. Thought I'd get a headstart figuring this out so Im not overly stressed when the time comes.
I usually do my own taxes since I usually get 1 W2 and 1 1099
How does claiming deductions work? is it only worth it if what I want to claim individually is over the standard deduction? (Which I googled is 16.1k this year)
I have medical expenses this year. I met my out of pocket this year which around 10k. I paid half of it and the other half is on a payment plan. It wont be completely paid off by December but i estimate atleast 8k paid by then. Is this something I can claim, do I provide all my receipts?
I have 2 jobs, A full time (W2, Hybrid in office 1x a week) and a part time (1099 - fully remote ). Am I able to claim any deductions for a wfh setup? I got a new desk and chair setup earlier this year which I paid for out of pocket, internet, phone bill, even supplies I pay for out of pocket?
I made some donations not sure of the exact number but probably under 1k.
Im not sure if all this adds up to 16k, i'd probably have to do the math of course but i'd imagine I come very close especially since I plan to have surgery at the end of the year and I'd imagine I'd have some more expenses.
Im a dummy when it comes to taxes so any info, guidance is much appreciated. I'd like to try to learn as much as I can to understand.
I got an email today from cookunity stating I completed the task for the oura ring 5 and to look out for an email from OURA ring.
I didn’t get the oura ring email but I followed the link on the cookunity email to login to oura ring.
When I’m logged in, it says “pending, shipping address. Address details needed”
But no option for me to input any address.
I’m so confused how can I get this processed ?
Happened a while ago.
I got out of work, it was late, I’m was a medical assistant at the time and was exhausted from chasing after the provider on a understaffed day (as always)
I got on a bus after work and sat in the first row, and just wanted to melt for the next 10 mins.
It was late around 9pm so the bus was basically empty and usually stays pretty empty. There was definitely less than 10 people in total for the entirety of my ride
The bus has about 8 seats for wheelchairs elderly etc.
The other passengers were all sitting near the middle or rear. I was the only one in the front of the bus with the priority seats.
(This is in ny - the priority seats you can sit on but if someone who needs it comes on you give it up. )
A Couple comes on, they were older maybe 60s?
Women points at me and goes “I’m going to sit there”
Me, confused af cos she wants my seat but there’s literally 30 other empty seats on the bus plus 7 other priority seats, including the 2 seats next to me. (if the bus was full I woulda gave her my seat but there was PLENTY OF SEATS. She was elderly looking but walking perfectly fine and able. if she had a walker I woulda gave have scooted over)
Convo goes something like :
Me: “there is a seat next to Me”
Her: “no I want this seat” -still pointing at my seat”
Me: “there are empty seats on this bus”
Her: you’re suppose to give that to the elderly -point-
Me; okay and the seat next to me is also priority
Her: I want your seat
Me: you have can at the priority seat across or next to me? they’re empty ?
Her: - starts going off on some tangent about how I’m not respectful. Some gibberish I cant remember much of-
Her hubby also chimes with some words as well
I do remember at one point she spewed “I am privileged”
Im just staring that them so confused. I wasn’t aware the MTA let you reserve seats in advance?
Baffled because all the seats around me were ALL EMPTY.
If it was more packed and she wanted my seat sure I’ll go to the back. But it’s so bizarre how she thought she can demand a seat from me when the bus was basically empty.
I was so exhausted from work being on my feet for 9 hours like why should I have to move on when I paid my fare and there’s plenty of other seats available and she just wanted to be a privileged Karen.
Her hubby also didn’t even pay a fare. Their card only had one ride the bus driver was nice enough to let them in.
They kept yapping nonsense in my face for minutes WHILE THR BUS IS MOVING so clearly if anything they’re okay standing.
After a while (I was halfway home) they finally moved to the middle of the bus and choose among the 30 other available seats.
Edit: they’re “priority seats” not exactly “ADA”
Is it worth it to get a paralegal certificate? (NYC)
TLDR I got into the legal field by accident. I absolutely had no interest in law and tbh my interest is still minimal, but I am decent at it. My knowledge in law is honestly trial and error at my first paralegal job, which is PI litigation for almost 6 years.
I left for a position at another firm that does more business/contract law litigation. Its so different from PI, im a great PI paralegal but my new firm the attorneys are more hands on drafting/research so I dont have as much work to do.
I also took a major pay cut for this job. So eventually I'll like to get a in-house paralegal position. I also have a bit more free time and amazing work life balance so I was wondering if a Paralegal certificate is worth pursing on my downtime
Thoughts?
I want to go a bit later so its less packed/lines/parking
Would going at 10pm be ideal or would some stalls be closed already?
Im sitting at my desk scratching my head since 1pm EST.
I cannot access SDNY on pacer. Is it just me. Am I just screwed today?
I have no issues going into any other districts but when i try to load anything in SNDY i get caught in a error page. If im really lucky, it'll briefly let me see the docket before going byebye.
Frustrated. Need to finish my draft today and I need to get into the docket
Edit: ive tried clearing the cookies, i went incognito, i tried a different brower, i tried mac and windows, i tried my phone on cellular. I want to cry
Looking to treat a friend who is visiting to massage
Any recommendations for a decent place for a 60 min massage around 100-150 in Mahattan? Open to queens and Brooklyn also if it’s to get to by train.
Planning on going to dinner after so a spot near food is preferred.
We went to Sojo and QC spa already and want to try something new. Doesn’t have to be a spa specifically anywhere with massage
Wondering if anyone has used Access-A-Ride or knows someone who used it and can give me some info.
I will be starting chemo soon, I live in queens but my doctor is in manhattan. I've also arranged for a 1x a week schedule for work which is in the city.
Initially, I was just going to call ubers back and forth while I do the treatment but it will come outvery pricy. I have some friends who are around to give me rides when they are available, but I dont want to depend on that. Im trying to find an alternative solution and was wondering if Access-a-ride would be a good option.
I understand its still a ride share so there may be other passengers but was wondering it:
2 usually how accurate is their estimated timing if they provide that?
Are there any instances where they wont provide a ride or have a driver?
I would be taking it not because Im physically disabled but due to being severely immunocompromised during treatment (and probably general fatigue), I respect their ride-share system but was wondering if they do any accommodation to try to minimize the amount of people i would have to share with?
Or is anyone have any recommendations for transport? A uber for me into and out of the city is about $30-40 each way I have to go to the city atleast3x a week which would put me around $180-240 a week. My chemo treatment is about 4 months, thats.... alot of ubers lol. I unfortunately do not qualify for the transportation assistances programs I've come across because of my income, which is above their minimum requirements but still puts me in a position where I cant really afford all these ubers. ;(
im really scared. I dont have a great family support system (long story) my mom is around but telling her will probably hurt my mental health more. But I will tell her at some point, maybe when i learn more about it myself.
I have great friends, and maybe its the trauma growing up where I had no one present but at the end I dont trust people to really show up unconditionally and I know they have no obligation to. A few of my friends know and theyre great but it really sucks when I hear "let me know what I can do" because there really isnt much any one can do, I cant even do anything myself. It sucks when my doctor i initially raised the concern to said "oh but youre so young i cant believe it". because she told me it was likely benign, I do not blame her at all but it really sucks to hear that bought it.
I saw my PCP and I guess she was doing a mental check on me asking if I had people to pick me up from appointments going foward. And I honestly dont know. I know my best friend would show up, my SO would, my mom would but I still feel so alone because I dont want them to just wait. I think it hurt more thinking of who would show up compared to how would I get myself home after.
it sucks that while im worried about whats going to happen treatment wise, im also thinking "is that the worst, can i afford all of this. What do I do if I cant" because healthcare is terrible in the US. I couldnt even get the initial radiology done unless I paid for the estimated deductible upfront. Which I get its all a business blahblah, but how screwed up would it had been if I wasnt in a decent position to pay for it. At the rate Im seeing the physicians and the bills, im not sure if i will even still be in a good financial position to afford it all .
Im really scared because I dont know whats going to happen, im scared that I dont understand and I dont know if im asking the right questions during my appointments. After my gyno read me the results she asked if I had questions, and i said No but i actually had so much to ask I didnt understand and I really want to ask so much but there were so thoughts in my mind, it went blank.
Im really scared that its worse than what I know. For the last week i've just had the knowledge that I have cancer. I try to learn a little more every day, but the more I read about it the more terrified I get. I feel like im letting myself down by not trying to learn and understand but Im not sure if I can mentall handle it. I
I know it doesnt do any good to scare myself before speaking to a physician, but I really feel like my brain is empty when im at my appointments and I feel so stupid for not being concerned because im so terrified inside I dont know what to do.
Im sure this question has been asked a million times. I've been meaning to get a kindle for a while and I have been lightly browsing for a good deal on FB marketplace and I learned that the old Kindles are loosing support, and now im wondering if its worth it to get a new kindle?
Pros
- Love that its a seperate device so I dont get distracted from notifications
- Easy on the eyes
- Small, cute and comfy handheld
Cons
- I already had a ipad air
- I dont want to pay for an older version that is losing support, I'd rather get the new version, but its pretty expensive IMO for a one function device
- Im not an avid reader maybe a handful of books a year even if I were to get back into reading (also making me wondering if its worth the price if in 2 years amazon ends support on the gen I own)
