Is there a way to notify external Google Chat users that I'm away?

For reasons I won't get into, my company has multiple Google Workspace tenants for our different company regions.

I get a lot of Chat messages from people on my team who appear as "External" just because they're in one of the other tenants. Is there a way to notify them when I'm out of office like you can with Gmail?

Google Partner pushing EOY Gemini Enterprise bundle deal. Is the math actually good or am I being played?

Hey all, looking for a sanity check on a deal our Google partner is pushing. We have ~2,000 Google Workspace Enterprise Standard seats across three tenants.

Our Google Workspace renewal isn't until December. Our Google partner is pushing an early renewal before June 30 (end of Australian financial year) tied to a Gemini Enterprise bundle. They say if I convert 25% of seats to Gemini Enterprise licenses, and they'll give me a deeper discount on my base Workspace seats that actually brings my total annual cost slightly lower than what I'm paying today, despite a 20% RRP increase Google implemented when they rolled Gemini into the base product.

On paper it looks like this for our largest tenant (1,065 seats):

  • Current annual: $274K AUD
  • Standard renewal (no GE): $351K AUD
  • GE bundle (1,065 ES + 268 GE): $348K AUD

So the bundle is genuinely cheaper than a straight renewal, but it has to be at current seat count. No right-sizing.

I'm pretty confident I can cut 10-15% of my seats across my two larger tenants through inactive cleanup. I freed up ~150 seats before our last renewal doing the same kind of work.

What they haven't given me is a comparison that answers the actual question. If I right-sized first and then renewed in December at lower seat counts, what would that look like versus committing now at current counts?

Hard deadline is June 26 for this pricing. They've been clear this is tied to their financial year end and the pricing goes away after that.

What I'm trying to figure out

  1. Is the "you'll pay more per seat if you reduce counts" argument actually true, or is that a negotiating tactic? I've heard this before and sometimes it holds, sometimes it's just pressure.
  2. For those who've gone through similar EOY Google bundle pushes: did the pricing actually evaporate after the deadline, or did similar incentives come back around later in the year?
  3. Is there a way to get Google to show you a proper apples-to-apples on "right-sized December renewal" vs "current count early bundle" so you can actually evaluate it? Or do I just have to run that math myself with indicative pricing?

Appreciate any experience from users or partners here. Not anti the deal, just want to make sure I'm evaluating it honestly before I commit.

Thanks!

Any solutions for bizarre dreams since starting tesamorelin?

Last night I took my fourth dose during week one of my first tesa cycle. Been on Reta already for about 6 months and have now added 2mg daily tesa.

This week I’ve been having the wildest almost lucid dreams. Not necessarily nightmares, but definitely not comfortable and my sleep has been suffering.

I’ve read a handful of reports from users experiencing similar effects, but I’m curious if anyone knows the science behind it and if there’s a solution? Should I lower the dose to 1mg for a week, just take it in the morning, or just tough it out for a couple of weeks?

What are your favorite AI use cases in your estimating software?

I work for a company with a proprietary take-off, estimating and purchasing software. I’m looking to hire an AI engineer to help me architect some new features to improve UX, speed up processes, and get better data.

Are there any AI features that you like if your current tools? Anything you wish they could do that they cannot currently?

How are you giving organization-level instructions for Gemini?

Just curious for those who have Gemini rolled out across your orgs and if you're doing anything to provide some top-level governance. Both Claude and ChatGPT have "Organization Instructions" that take priority over users' personal preferences. It doesn't appear Google has anything like this at the moment so I'm curious if anyone has sorted this out.

Has anyone noticed Gems missing from the new Gemini Web UI?

I manage a couple of Google Workspace Enterprise tenants and our Australian tenant users have reported Gems missing from the sidebar, but US users can still see it just fine. You can still see Gems in the settings icon. Anyone experiencing something similar or have any idea on how to report it as a possible bug?

Where’s the best place to donate men’s clothes in Charlotte?

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight this year and none of my clothes don’t fit anymore.

I have a lot of nice slacks ranging from M 34-36 I used to wear to work before I went completely remote. The city I moved from before Charlotte had some programs for dress clothing to help guys look professional for interviews, but I don’t see anything like that in Charlotte.

Before I just drop a box off at Goodwill, is there a clothing donation place that will have a more meaningful impact?

How do you handle Xero contact merges from external CRM when there's no API for it?

Hey everyone,

We have a custom CRM that syncs contacts with Xero. Our CRM allows duplicate names since two real customers can genuinely share one, but Xero needs contact names to be unique. We're building a contact merge feature on our side and keep running into the same wall: there's no public API to merge two Xero contacts.

Curious how others are handling this. A pretty common case for us: someone has "ABC Plumbing" and "ABC Plumbing LLC" sitting in Xero as two separate contacts. Same business in real life, just entered slightly differently over time. Both have transactions allocated to them, and one might have invoices in a locked/prior period.

Our current plan is to archive the duplicate Xero contact and re-parent everything on our CRM side onto the surviving record. That handles the CRM cleanly, but it leaves transaction history split in Xero. The archived contact still has all its old invoices and bills attached to it.

So how are you handling this? Are you just telling users to merge manually in the Xero UI before or after the CRM merge? Accepting the split history as a fact of life? Doing something clever with the MergeToContactID field after the fact? And for locked periods specifically, does Xero even let you touch anything once the period is locked?

Would love to hear how others have approached this.

Thanks!

Is there any point in working with my account manager with a small account under $20k/mo?

No shade to any AWS account managers in here. I saw another post where someone was trying to get in touch with their AM and it made me wonder if I’m missing something by not engaging mine.

I get an email from a new person every 6 months saying they’re my new AM and wanting to schedule a meeting to understand my goals. I usually let them know I’m good and don’t bother meeting. Partly because my AM’s are always in Australia and I’m in the US and don’t want another late meeting with no value.

Am I thinking about it wrong?

Lots of great deals on used EV9s right now. Should I buy US or Korean made? Should I avoid buybacks?

Sadly my lease for my Land is coming to an end and the residual is too high. I can probably negotiate, but I can get a GT with half as many miles for less than my residual.

I’m seeing smoking deals on buy backs. They all seem to come out of California for minor things like the sunroof not working. Any reason I should avoid a buy back vehicle?

Also seeing some Korean made and US made vehicles. My current one is Korean so is there any reason I’d want to consider US instead?

Just curious if you've given any of your teams access to query Snowflake data in Google Sheets and what the best approach is.

Just curious how other admins use this. We make it optional and have seen some instances where their meeting transcripts have gotten them into trouble. I like the idea of enabling it but can see where it could be more harmful than good.
