The worst part of being a nihilist.

If you try to explain it to any of your family/friends/loved ones, etc., they automatically assume you are either crazy or just suffering from depression.

Does anyone have any better luck than I do with this situation or is it just what it is?

Thank you for your service.

I realize that it's highly unlikely that any bands that I am specifically thinking about in my own personal experience, will see this, but I just wanted to say this in a general way to everyone.

I am 56 years old. I am a retired and disabled firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. I have suffered tremendously from PTSD and injuries sustained on the job.

It doesn't necessarily have to be industrial music (but for me it is, which is why I'm posting this here) but many forms of art and different musical genres and such, can be super impactful to people. I dare to guess that some of my favorite bands have saved more lives than I ever did as a professional "life saver" because their music helped people cope with life when they may not have been able to do so without it.

So, TLDR: Thanks to musicians who make the music they make even if they aren't making millions of dollars doing so, because it really is something that can help some of us cope with this reality.

To join a Nihilist group anywhere....

I had made a draft of a huge post about Nihilism and such, then realized how useless it was to make a post to people who are in a subrettid about nihilism... So I guess instead, I will say, "Hi!"

The Seven Tenets of TST

I won't go into a lot of effort here to describe why TST exists, because it's easy enough to research it yourself. But here is a screenshot of their Seven Tenets, which I think everyone can agree here, are very on point and appropriate.

A-ntitheist here.

I don't know why it never occurred to me to look for a subreddit with this name, but I did find it, and so I wanted to say hello!

Older (classical) songs that fit the mold of industrial.

So I was just chatting with my wife, which happens from time to time, and it got me to thinking about the kind of music I listen to. I love a lot of different types of music, and Industrial just seems to be the broadest genre title that describes most of what I listen to. But I was listening to my Spotify Favorites of 2023 list, and there were several classical songs in the top 10. Which got me thinking, which classical songs, in their time, would have been considered so hardcore and crazy that we would include them in the Industrial or whatever/core music of these days.

If anyone has any input, I would love to see it, otherwise I just end up talking to ChatGPT or Claude AI and hoping they have anything even remotely useful to say.

Only found out I had Ahpantasio 18 months ago

I tried to type out a full and descriptive post about how I first realized I had Aphantasia, but it became so large that the website basically told me to "fuck off" and so I deleted it all and have just now made this post instead.

I would love to discuss with others how and or/when they first realized they had Aphantasia, since it wal something that actually destroyed my mind when I first realized that I had it about 18 months ago, and my wife thought I was just being silly compared to her describing to me what it was like to be hyperphantasic.

Probably my favorite band of all time.

I am not really that involved with any social media, so it only recently occured to me that there would be a subreddit for Toto. I just wanted to say that I have found you all, and joined the subreddit, and that just based purely on the amount of songs of theirs that I love (especially when I have had a few drinks and am just diving through Youtube watching music videos) that it has occured to me that Toto is easily one of my top 3 bands of all time. The next two would be A-Ha and The Cure.

Anyway, just saying hello and I hope to have a great many Toto-related reactions with everyone here in the near future.

Concerts at the Oz in Seattle in the late 80s and early 90s

I saw Ministry, KMFDM, and Real Life at The Oz in Seattle, Washington, between 1988 and 1996. Has anybody else had the pleasure of seeing bands in such a small venue before they really could fill up larger venues? (Also, yes, I know, that Real Life is about as far as you can get from industrial, but I included them because they are the only other band I saw at The Oz back in the day. Bonus: I got to meet them at the 4000 Holes record store in Seattle and have them sign my CD before the concert.)

Favorite "Industrial" bands of all time.

I'm not sure if this post is allowed or not, so I apoligize if it isn't. I was thinking about my favorite 5 "Industrial" bands of all time and I wanted to list them here and see what the rest of you thought. I know that some of these bands aren't maybe industrial exactly, but you can decide how you want to respond.

  1. Skinny Puppy

  2. Ministry

  3. Front Line Assembly

  4. Velvet Acid Christ

  5. :Wumpscut:

I would like to add that Front 242, KMFDM, Combichrist, God Module, and MLWTTKK are so close to being included, but to limit it to only the top 5 is pretty hard to do. What do you all think? What are your favorites or 10 or more favorite Industrial bands?

Power outage near Lakeview Terrace

Is anyone experiencing a power outage near Lakeview Terrace? I can’t find anything on GVEA’s outage tracker but our electricity went out at 5:30 am and my wife texted me at work from home saying that it is still out.
