just starting out. get a beater to try it? or just go for it and go a low miles bike.

will be riding single track/enduro in colorado. fwiw I'm experienced with downhill mountain biking and street motorcycles and I had an XR650R I used for dirt roads and ripping around Denver. I also do have some mechanic experience.

should I go for a 300 hours beater for a couple thousand to see if I actually like it? or just go ahead and spring for like a $7k recent low hours bike?

anyone over 35 that can give me a realistic review of Asheville/Brevard?

hey folks. I grew up in upstate SC near Greenville in a shithole redneck factory town. my family still lives there. I've been living in CO and ID/WY for the last 10 years and have lived in NYC, Chicago, KC, Oakland, Houston, etc. I spent 2023 back in SC helping out my parents and went to Brevard weekly to mountain bike. I still go back 2 or 3 times a year. I've been back out in Colorado for a couple years now and Ive been super homesick the whole time.

considering a move to Asheville or Brevard. FWIW I'm 40-something, single male, no kids. I work in custom home building, 3D design, metal fab, etc. I want to be close to Brevard for MTB, close enough to my family to visit but not so close that they show up at my house every day, close enough to Asheville or Greenville for dating. I'm pretty far left liberal but have no problem getting along with conservatives and I'm blue collar and into guns and diesel trucks etc.

I know the pay is low there and rent is high. it's an issue but I think I can figure it out.

help me name this floppy doofus

having a hard time naming this little guy. 14 weeks. ridgeless. he is the slowest, laziest dog ive ever had and sleeps more than Rip Van Winkle, loves everyone, incredibly stubborn and definitely gets a little attitude when he doesn't get his way.

on my 6th dog and just not enjoying it at all.

I'm in my late 40s. I've had dogs since I was a little kid. I absolutely love dogs. I carry treats in my pockets so I can befriend dogs. I'm the favorite non-owner human of all the dogs at my job and in my neighborhood. I volunteer at the local dog shelter. etc.

but I recently got a new dog after not having one for about a year and I'm just not enjoying it at all. it's making me feel like maybe I don't want a dog anymore.

my last dog was a field trial line GSP and while he was a lot of work and literally never sat down or took a nap, he was super trainable and handler focused and incredibly sweet and I was very connected to him, like he was a little person in there.

my new dog is a show line Ridgeback from a reputable 25 year breeder. I got him at 8 weeks. he's 14 weeks now. he is very sweet and funny, he likes to play, he likes people and other dogs, he likes kids. he goes to work with me and mostly just naps which is great.

however, he's incredibly hard to train, super stubborn, straight up ignores me whenever he feels like it. I don't feel like we're connecting at all. I've house trained multiple dogs very quickly, like my GSP didn't have a single accident after 12 weeks, while this dog is still just straight up shitting on the floor with no warning at 14 weeks. likewise with biting. gsp was done biting by 11 weeks while this dog straight up will just not stop.

he's also reactive and fear aggressive. this morning I had to wash his feet because he stepped in poop. when I was drying his feet with the towel, for some reason the towel scared him and he started squealing bloody murder and tried to bite me as hard as he could multiple times, which has happened a lot with similar things. like he eats dirt, and if I try to get the rocks out of his mouth he snarls and bites me super hard.

on top of that, I guess I'm just missing my peace and quiet. he's by far the dirtiest dog I've ever had and I have to sweep and mop multiple times a day. I'm super into mountain biking and was having a great season crushing miles until I got him and now I can't ride at all. I've had multiple concussions and I really need my sleep, and I haven't had a good night's sleep since I got him, etc.

I know it's probably puppy blues but I'm just not having a good time and I'm not enjoying owning this dog at all.

matching surface curves, not the edges.

I have two surfaces in rhino with different outside edge shapes. on the larger one, I manually moved the control point grid to change the topography of the surface. I need to match the second one to the topography of the first one. is there a command to do this?

KTM 300 vs Husky 300

live in Colorado, will be on high alpine single track. I live 10-30 minutes from trails so will be riding from my house some days, some days I'll put the bike in the truck and drive over.

KTM 300 xcw vs Husky TE300. what are the differences other than color? I'd prob pick the Husky based on looks, a local dealer has more KTM's though. I know one has linkage and one has....not linkage.

anyone else try to switch to dirt biking and end up not liking it that much?

the last 10 years of my life have been totally built around mountain biking. Maybe too much? I guess I got burnt out. Before that I was into road motorcycles. I figured I'd try something fresh and get into dirt biking. I live 10 minutes from world class dirt bike single track, can ride from my house, my neighbors all ride, etc. Plus a nearly brand new KTM is cheaper than a nice e bike.

Turns out...I dont really like it that much. the uphills are more fun, the downhills....aren't really that fun. It's kind of a pain managing throttle and gears. It takes way longer to get ready and getting the bike in the truck is a lot more of a pain in the ass. The gear is hot and expensive, etc.

I guess I just kind of prefer the peace and quiet uphill and absolutely ripping downhill, lighter gear, etc.

How much do I need to move from CO to Asheville NC with no job lined up?

Single male with a large dog. I work as a CAD designer and wood/metal fabricator for custom home builders. Only reason I'm moving without a job lined up is that so far in this industry in NC, everyone wants me in town first before they want to interview.

I currently live in Colorado and make $107k with benefits. My pay will go down in Asheville but rent seems to be about the same at $1500-ish.

How much do I need realistically to safely move?

Beard or Mustache?

Photos are all in the last 2 months. 48 single, straight, in a mountain town in Colorado. I feel like the beard makes me look 58 and the mustache makes me look like I'm trying to be 30.

Puppy with pica. Will not stop eating dirt and rocks.

13 wk Ridgeback puppy from a 30 yr champion show breeder. Got him at 8 weeks. Since the day I got him home he's been eating dirt and rocks. He had x rays recently and his stomach was full of gravel. He gets plenty of high quality food. He was on the food the breeder recommended and now he's on the food the vet recommended. He gets probiotics. He gets exercise. He gets tons of outdoor time and play time with other dogs. He's with me 24/7. My yard is half dirt so I have to put a muzzle on him or he eats the yard. He has to have a muzzle on walks. Which sucks because he loves people and dogs and the muzzle makes people avoid him.

2008 250 XCW as a first trail bike?

Advanced mountain biker and former obsessed street biker looking to get into dirtbikes. I live 10 minutes from world class high alpine single track. Only interested in single track. No motocross or dual sport.

Found a 2008 250 XCW. Looks well maintained. Top end just done. 230 hours. Asking 2700.

Yes? No? What's to look out for?

Breeder says to feed my puppy adult food. Vet says to feed him large breed puppy food.

Have a 12 wk old Ridgeback puppy. RRCUS breeder. Breeder gave me a bag of large breed adult food and an info packet that said that you shouldnt give ridgeback puppies large breed puppy food because it makes them grow too fast and causes issues. I told the vet this and he got kind of mad and was adamant that "extensive long term research shows that large breed puppy food is clearly the best choice" and something about calcium balance and how the breeder's sample size is too small to matter.

Thoughts?
