What do you think Kaede's music taste might be like? (36/48) 🎶🎂

Greetings, people of the Danganronpa subreddit! Particular Being 269 back again, continuing with my weekly series where we analyze the possible (or sometimes confirmed) musical tastes of each character in the Danganronpa franchise.

Up next today… is a character whose always been one of my personal favorites to talk about (especially regarding this topic), and what a coincidence that she also happens to fall right on my birthday, LOL. Anyway, today we’ll be taking a look at the optimistic, outgoing and kind pianist with a strong motivation (maybe a little too much so) for ending the killing game, and a more lighthearted side too... Kaede Akamatsu.

Kaede is a character whose musical taste I've talked about numerous times over. And it's always such a fun area to touch on because Kaede's biggest motivation for performing is not because she thinks that classical is the best style or that piano is the best instrument. It's to put smiles on people's faces. That alone opens the door for many possibilities as to how her musical interests or open-mindedness would branch out and expand. Heck, she's even expressed interest in tackling various other styles in many interactions both in V3, and in side games, even with classical being her main focus. But even with that classical focus, she did express concern that her identity was becoming too narrow (“Without piano, I’d have nothing left!"), and even worries that classical could feel too intimidating to many people. This would also be a good explanation as to why things like pop music, game OSTs, film scoring, and more gave her so much interest and curiosity.

Speaking of curiosity, that trait plays a huge part here too. Kaede, throughout all of V3, she's always interested in asking questions and learning about people to understand them more. And I think she'd naturally approach all sorts of musical styles the exact same way. She has a clear wish to do whatever it takes for her to make as many people smile as she can, and proves she's anything but a purist. If someone else were to try and get her into another artist or style that falls outside of her typical wheelhouse or comfort zone, I'd imagine instead of expressing disinterest, she'd ask questions and express an interest in learning more. Especially when it comes to what about specific songs, artists, and genres resonate with different people. I'd especially imagine her becoming interested about learning about various musical cultures and styles around the world too, fascinated with the endless amounts of ways people can express all sorts of emotion and bring together a sense of community... with smiles galore.

While classical would always remain the musical language she speaks most fluently, as well as the one that shaped her technique and identity, with her discovering how impossibly wide the musical horizon really is, Kaede I feel like would become excited at every new opportunity she gets to explore something new. After all, her end quote from Danganronpa S sums it up quite well... "Music has endless potential. And I must keep pushing myself to reach it."

But anyway, I now pass things over to you guys. If you guys have any ideas of your own as to what sort of other possible musical preferences this legend behind the keys might have, feel free to let me know down in those comments below! Up next, I'll be going down the line alphabetically with this cast (for REAL this time). I know I hinted at this character in my last post, but I decided to go with his other spelling for this occasion, and so the polite, but serious AI-equipped teenager who has trouble with human social interaction and stands up for the rights of robots everywhere is finally now going to be coming up next Sunday... so stay tuned for that!

And with all that being said, let loose down in the comment section and have a good rest of your day/night!

What do you think Gonta's music taste might be like? (34/48) 🎶

Greetings, people of the Danganronpa subreddit! Particular Being 269 back again, continuing with my new weekly series where we analyze the possible (or sometimes confirmed) musical tastes of each character in the Danganronpa franchise.

Apologies for being absent last week, due to me being on vacation. But up next today, we're gonna continue down the list for the V3 by taking a look at the gentle giant Tarzan boy and bug lover who lacks socially but makes it his goal to become the best guy he can be... Gonta Gokuhara.

Given his incredibly pure-hearted and lovable demeanor, I feel like Gonta would gravitate towards songs that carry a sentimental or uplifting message, or else just exude a very bubbly and innocent aura. Any tune that would warm his heart with optimism, friendliness, and heartfelt emotion, he's in. And given his nature-loving side, there would also be many tunes in the folk/soft rock or even lightweight pop side that paint these sort of serene pictures that I can definitely imagine him gravitating to as well. In addition of course, any song that focuses on becoming a better person is a gimme, given that's always been his biggest goal of all. And there are several tunes in that department that can easily fit the bill too. One more aspect I'll factor in in which I can see helping Gonta value specific songs even more is if someone recommends them to him, and would thus lead Gonta to develop a special kind of emotional attachment to them. To me, he'd be less about genre and more about wholesomeness. I think that would sum up his musical preferences in a nutshell.

So on that note, I now pass things over to you guys. If you guys have any ideas of your own as to what sort of other possible musical preferences this lovable gentleman might have, feel free to let me know down in those comments below! Up next, I'll be going down the line alphabetically with this cast, with the small magical girl who firmly believes in her tricks being real magic and becomes more dedicated and emotional over the course of time coming up next... so stay tuned for that!

And with all that being said, let loose down in the comment section and have a good rest of your day/night!

What magical girl shows do you recall this type of '😯' facial expression showing up most frequently?

This was a type of simplistic expression I noticed get used very frequently in a lot of classic anime shows from the 80s to around the early 2000s. Where a character reacts with their mouth forming this tiny, centered ‘o’-shape along with large, readable eyes and mostly minimal facial detail.

As my collage pictured here shows, I've noticed shows like Sailor Moon, the original Pretty Cure, Wedding Peach, Pastel Yumi, and several others have it show up a lot. It seems to be more commonly used in a lot of classic, hand-drawn cel animated shows, and often used less frequently in modern series that included more detailed and nuanced facial design, and thus likely limited the subconscious need to have characters emote in a much simpler fashion.

My question is: outside of the shows pictured here, are there any other anime series you remember frequently using this kind of facial expression language? And if so, feel free to let me know in the comments down below.

Thanks for reading, and have a nice rest of your day.

Most generous/relieving break moments in high-level DDR songs?

One interesting element in DDR is how different songs can require different levels of stamina to succeed. Some songs can go all-out from start to finish without showing any mercy...

...but then there are songs that actually do offer some grace and generosity before the song's final (and most challenging) act kicks in. And I wanted to know, what songs/charts in DDR do you think have the most satisfying moments of recovery or breathing room that give the player enough time to reset their stamina before finishing the rest of the song?

Feel free to lemme know in the comments so we can discuss.

Double Shot: LDA Cast if they were on the game show To Tell the Truth… both as a panelist and as an imposter. (Rules explained below)

Hey, LDA sub! Particular Being 269 here. Back with another classic game show tier list idea, and this time for another show that’s had many different iterations since the early ‘50s, and that’s To Tell the Truth.

For those who aren’t familiar, To Tell the Truth is a game show that consists of three people who each claim to be the same person, but only one is telling the truth, and the other two are posing as fakes. The host introduces the person in question who typically has some sort of unusual occupation, achievement, or life story. The panel (consisting of four celebrities) has to figure out who the real person is as the fakers try to bluff their way through various questions and interrogations.

After the questioning process is done, the host then asks, “Will the real [person’s name] please stand up?” At that moment, the real person stands while the impostors usually grin, clap, or collapse into laughter after surviving interrogation for several minutes.

Many modern versions (most notably the 2016 revival) especially leaned hard into comedy and celebrity banter, while the classic show took a more sophisticated approach. It’s a game all about human psychology and reading people, which leaves tons of room for priceless moments galore.

And I think that pretty much covers everything. Please feel free to let me know what ideas you have in mind regarding a potential LDA x To Tell the Truth crossover in the comments down below, and until then, take care, and have a nice rest of your day!

Songs That Fight Against DDR’s Judgment System (Analysis)

https://preview.redd.it/096r7k4l1v3h1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=07aca8d5f4837f2ae572428643c06a782bf7ce1b

Back when I previously made a post asking people about what they think the most out-of-place songs in DDR are, I made note of there being many licensed tunes within DDR’s long history that feature live, human instrumentation. This will naturally result in the song’s tempo drifting ever so slightly every few beats or so, which kind of goes against DDR’s demand for precise timing and synchronization. I have an image above showcasing some examples of what I mean.

As a result of songs like these having organic instrumentals physically played by humans, this results in the chart authors having to perform precise, surgical maneuvers on the timing data every few beats just to keep the arrows aligned with the live performance track. And even then, it’s not always perfect. As a result, you can sometimes wind up with stepcharts, that in Edit Mode, look like this…

A grand total of 350 tempo changes between all three of these, btw.

And it’s tough to unsee it once you know about it. Another important element to note is that it’s not even that songs in styles like funk, garage rock, punk, or classic rock ’n roll are impossible to make work in DDR. There are many BEMANI tunes within DDR that have taken inspiration from all sorts of styles that might not ideally translate the best to DDR at face value, but their instrumental parts are also fully quantized and perfectly in-sync with each step, which makes them both easier for step artists to chart, and easier for players to adapt to.

But when it comes to live-recorded songs that keep their human authenticity and don’t receive any sort of quantization procedure, it leaves them feeling not structurally ideal for such a precise rhythm game like DDR. So even when the songs themselves are good or fun to listen to, you can get charts that fall into the uncanny valley because of this clash between worlds.

Even compared to other rhythm games that use buttons like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or others that also feature a wide selection of human-played songs, DDR’s timing window is a lot more precise by comparison, which can make songs like these a nightmare for DDR players to attempt to MFC.

So that begs the question: what are your thoughts about this topic? Do you think human-performed songs in other genres have potential to work in DDR if their timing and judgments were made more precise and reliable? Or do you think songs like these should just not be bothered with in DDR, and/or keep their original performance energy alive, even if it may make them harder to perfectly synchronize?

Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and I wish you all a great rest of your day/night.

DR Cast if they were on the game show Password. (Rules explained below)

Hey, DR sub! Particular Being 269 here. I know it’s been a long while since I’ve posted a game show-related tier list here, but I have to thank a certain friend of mine over on Discord named JC for this tier list idea, and that’s for a game show that’s had many different iterations since the early ‘60s, and that’s Password.

For those who aren’t familiar, Password is a game show that consists of two teams competing (typically a celebrity and contestant). One player is shown a secret word, known as the “password”, and they must get their partner to guess it by giving clues… one word at a time.

The fewer clues it takes, the more points they earn. Clues generally can’t rhyme with the word, contain the word, or be obvious forms of it. Nor can they use gestures or speak more than one word. Each round, both teams aim to solve puzzles that each consist of five total passwords. Chemistry and teamwork are key factors to winning Password.

Many versions of this show have had many different bonus games, lightning rounds, or escalating cash prizes, but the core gameplay has remained the same for over half a century.

And I think that pretty much covers everything. Please feel free to let me know what ideas you have in mind regarding a potential Danganronpa x Password crossover in the comments down below, and until then, take care, and have a nice rest of your day!

Most out-of-place songs in DDR?

To clarify, this isn't asking about the WORST songs in DDR quality-wise, just the ones that feel like the most baffling inclusions within the franchise's history. Ones that would make people ask... "Why is THIS in DDR?"

And for the record, these songs I have included in the picture aren't actually my answers per se, just some examples I've seen other folks occasionally highlight.

For me, there are plenty of licensed songs from the earlier games that feature instrumentation physically played by humans, which means that without any sort of quantization work done, the song's BPM would constantly fluctuate. And you can even see this if you go into the song's chart files and look how many small adjustments are made to the BPM throughout the chart in order to properly sync the steps to the music.

Not saying songs like these don't have potential to work for DDR, but they should absolutely be given a more consistent rhythm, preferably through quantization so that way timing can be judged more fairly.

What do you think Teruteru's music taste might be like? (31/48) 🎶

Greetings, people of the Danganronpa subreddit! Particular Being 269 back again, continuing with my new weekly series where we analyze the possible (or sometimes confirmed) musical tastes of each character in the Danganronpa franchise.

Up next today, we have the last character of the Goodbye Despair cast: the perverted master of culinary with a deep loathing of fast food and a soft spot for his mama... Teruteru.

Teruteru is another character whose musical preferences I can imagine changing depending on what his mood is that day. I do think he’d try to present himself as liking a lot of refined and worldly genres like lounge jazz, city pop, European soundtracks, and other similarly “classy” styles. This could also extend to styles that’d serve as good background material in a culinary setting, like bossa nova, or cafe jazz, for example. But on the other hand, his unavoidable horniness would without a doubt gravitate him toward a lot of more seductive material that would pair super well with love-making. Whether it be in genres like R&B, funk, pop, disco, or even some club/dance, even if the songs themselves have a more layered meaning, Teruteru would likely be laser-focused on the sleazy surface layer and little else, LOL. But with that being said, he also has his “mama’s boy” side, so there could also be a selection of sentimental folk or enka ballads that would bring out that hidden softer side and crack through his typically easily-aroused persona. As for stuff he’d hate, I do imagine him having strong standards just like he has with food, so a lot of overly corporate or algorithmic trendy material would come off cheap or artificial to him. But there can definitely be some wildcard picks in there every once in a while (Avril Lavigne, anyone?).

Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Now I pass things over to you guys. If you guys have any ideas of your own as to what sort of other possible musical preferences this horny next-level chef might have, feel free to let me know down in those comments below! Up next, I'll be kicking off the posts for the DR V3 cast. And just like last time, the main MC will be first. So stay tuned for that!

And with all that being said, let loose down in the comment section and have a good rest of your day/night!
