Sharpal has taken down the 202H on Amazon. I’m assuming they’re updating the kit to the new universal stone holder + standard 1x6 stones (maybe even center clamp?).

For people that already have the kit like me and want to switch to the universal stone holder for better access for knives with no sharpening choils: I found out that all of the diamond plates are only held on by double sided tape to their handles. It’s very easy to get them off, just get some rubbing alcohol behind the plates and gently pry them off (I used a pry tool commonly seen in tech tool pouches). You can buy 5pcs 1x6 blanks from haptsone for $15 plus shipping. The hapstone blanks are 3mm thick, the sharpal plates are 1mm. Together they should be the same 4mm like sharpal advertised for their 1x6 stones. I plan on putting the 220, 600, 1000 diamonds and cut two 1x6 strips of leather for two strops. (Skipping the 325 because imo it’s too close to the 220 to be useful, and sharpals new 1x6s doesn’t have 220, only 80 and 325. So if I need those I can get them and have 80, 220, 325, 600, 1000)

Yes it only saves you around $27-30 depending on tax and shipping compared to getting an equivalent set of Sharpals 1x6s (80,325,600,1000). But for me I just don’t see the reason to go out and buy new stones when mine are still perfectly fine and already broken in. I’ll get those when my current ones are worn out.

Kapara. I unfortunately missed out on the knife center exclusive last year. But had the chance to get the standard version this month during Spydercos June sales.
My first time carrying it so no opinions yet. And yes I sharpened the knife already even though I haven’t used it even one time, because sharpening is just as much of a hobby to me as collecting and using knives. Had some fun with the video this time

In response to a comment about showing a macro shot of the edge from my other post today. This is NOT the same knife, but that Para 3 with the black DLC coating makes it very difficult to film with my cheap amazon macro camera.

This is a Sage 5 I sharpened the same way. I like the laser pattern on the spider. Tried to do a fancy 3D edge shot but kinda lost focus lol

Para 3 Salt DLC Magnacut with MXG skull clip. To be honest in my experience Para 3 has not been the best slicer. But the action and ergonomics is excellent

I like the Porcupine in terms of design, ergonomics, and action. But one thing that always frustrated me was how the edge just wouldn’t stay sharp. Maybe because of poor heat treat, or the fact that the blade isn’t very thin, or most likely, both.

Last week I had to sharpen it again. And thought I’d bring it down to 12.5dps just to see how it would do. Turns out, geometry does matter a lot. This is after using it for a week. I cut a lot of thick cardboards and it still slices through receipt paper no problem.

I’m considering bringing most of my knives down to between 12-14dps now. Maybe 12 for high toughness steels like 14c28n, nitro v, Magnacut and CruWear. And 14dps for medium toughness steels (k390, VG10, S30V, S35/45VN are what I have. And maybe the couple 15V knives I’ll sharpen to 15dps

Sometimes I want to get the Spy27 Sage 5 just to see that upside down R. But utility-wise it’s too similar to the Sage 5 salt for me to justify it

Miguron Karok. Sub $40 knife with supposedly 62-63hrc D2 blade. factory edge is sticky sharp too, but i’ll judge the edge retention after my first sharpening.

What is their name anyway is it M Miguron or just Miguron?

K390 Endela. One of my favorites . Carried this one a lot. There were a few rust spots but instead of cleaning them off, I etched the blade with ferric chloride. I can’t really avoid water at work anyway.

I made a shortcut that involves getting selected text. The shortcut runs fine when I trigger it from the shortcut app (Does the action of text I selected on messages just fine). But when I try to trigger it with the keyboard shortcut I assigned, it gives an error.

I have not used a keyboard shortcut to trigger a shortcut on MacOS before, so I don't know if this is just a beta bug or if there's something that's preventing it from running with a keystroke combo.

Edit: The keyboard shortcut works but only when the shortcut app is at the foreground and active. When I'm on a different app it doesnt do anything. This shortcut also runs fine on my iPhone with back tap trigger.

I was in a Mercedes earlier today and connected to CarPlay. Now I’m back in my BMW, and the button to go back to BMW iDrive is still the Mercedes logo. Although the app name is updated to BMW correctly.

When I know a heavy day of cardboard cutting is ahead 15V is what I bring. Only thing is my hands also get wet a lot at work, so I have to be careful with keeping the knife dry. So far no rust though, and it’s been performing wonderfully. Stays sharp for longer than pretty much anything else I have.

Good actions good ergos but the steel has been underwhelming. I cut a lot of cardboard and the 14C28N on the porcupine just cannot keep an edge. Just sharpened it to 12.5dps since I don’t do any high impact cuts anyway. Hopefully this will make the edge last longer

I’m sure a lot of you have seen reviews of Matsato/Huusk fixed blade knives on YouTube (if you haven’t, go watch Cedric&Ada Gear and Outdoors video on it). But it seems like not a lot of people have taken a look at their folding knife yet. I’m kind of just curious how hilariously bad it can be. Or maybe like some other potentially ai generated YouTube videos would say, I’m full of crap and it’s the best knife in the world. $20 dollar Matsato destroys $670 Spyderco knife set or something (that was basically the title of one of their videos)

Has anyone got one to test?

Hi! We are two men in our late 20s and early 30s looking to fill a room in our 3 bedroom 2.5 bath townhome apartment. Our current 3rd roommate is moving out of state by August. This will be a lease renewal with a new resident (you!).

We both work full time and are busy during the week. We’re friendly but also keep to ourselves especially on weekdays.

Apartment complex is The Commons at Olentangy. Nice area with lots of good food around and easy access to the highway. The townhome itself is 2 stories. It’s okay, good enough for us to not want to move out.

The room is one of the standard bedrooms, not the master. But the two of us living in the standard rooms get the attached garage space and all the storage areas.

Rent will be around $750 including Internet but not water or electricity. Exact amount will be out when renewal offer is issued.

We’re looking for someone that respects the common space, keeps clean, respect each other’s schedules, and pay rent and utilities on time.

I’ve had this Dewalt atomic box cutter before I got into pocket knives. It’s been sitting in my tool bag and I use it to scrape more than I cut. Took me until I bought a sage 6 to realized it has the venerable button top liner lock. And a forward finger choil. With the Wharncliffe/sheepsfoot blade shape of a utility blade, this is basically a Smock!😂

Just a silly realization that I wanted to share. Jokes aside though, with all the stuff I mentioned I feel like this thing is better than the Milwaukee fastback for knife guys. At least it doesn’t lock close with a button.

Added a compression lock button to my para 3 salt. It was kinda awkward to use at first if I’m honest. I was used to digging in with my fingernail to disengage the lock. But got used to it in a couple of days.

Overall it’s only a slight improvement in terms of operating the lock itself. However it does fill out the space nicely and when I push down on the knife I no longer feel the sharp edges digging into my palm. That’s probably the biggest improvement for me.
