This warms my cold, black heart.

Could hear laughing coming from my office, so peaked in to be greeted by this. It's so cool to see my kids playing my original 360, that I bought with my saved up paperboy money back in 2006. Other than brief arguments over who's turn it was, they had a blast playing Sonic Generations together. My 9 year old even managed to beat one of my times that I'd set back in 2012 🥲

My dad's had the same watch for 30 years.

But he'd argue it's still "too new to be called retro"

Forcing 240p into my monitor.

Saw a post on a CRT FB group (can't remember which one) the other day re forcing their diamondtron to display a 240p signal. I tinkered about with their settings and achieved a pretty good result. The Tekken 2 pictures is my "240p" which is basically 2560x240 @120hz versus my usual 2048x1536 @85hz. The rest of the pictures are just the 240p setting. Tried it on Vice City for something a bit different - really enjoyed how it turned out.

Little and large

Don't come at me for them being the wrong way round 😂 Always wanted a dual monitor setup back in the day. Teenage me didn't possess the fiscal ability to make it happen. Today is the day.

You can't beat the "aura" of a CRT

I'll let the pictures do the talking. But needless to say, I won't be gaming on anything else.

Sun Microsystems X7190A

Picked up this absolute beauty last week, by amazing luck it was local to me, only a 30 minute drive away. This rebadged Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB has only done 690 hours and you can tell. The guy I bought it from explained he used to have around 20 of these monitors, which he leased to a company in Soho, London. The company kept them on retainer, reserving the option to use them if/where required, but he explained they rarely took up that option, hence the ridiculously low usage on them. The display is absolutely stunning and I'm looking forward to many happy years using this beast!

1000 days Opioid free!

This is a huge milestone for me and I have no one to share it with, so I'm putting it here so at least someone sees it 😅

About 7 years ago I injured my wrist badly enough to need surgery. Post-op I was sent home with a prescription of 200 30/500 cocodamol with zero education around addiction risk. I was prescribed at least 5-600 more before my doctor cut me off, and so began my journey to acquire opiates any way I could online or combining over the counter meds in local stores.

I took codeine, in various forms and amounts, every single day, for 6 years. It completely controlled my life, priorities, decisions and mood. If I was running low I'd be anxious and irritable until I secured my next supply. If I had plenty, I'd be on top of the world. Codeine made everything great and bearable, nothing was an issue. If I didn't have any, life was a disaster.

And through it all, I hid my addiction completely. To this day, my wife, friends and family have no idea that I was popping 18-25 pills per day every day for years.

Throughout this period, I had a couple of kids and I knew that sooner or later, I'd have to stop. If not for me, then for them, because they deserved a father that would still be with them in the years to come.

So 1002 days ago I finally made the decision to change my life. I decided I would never take Opioids again, no matter what, under no circumstances. No excuses.

I had zero support because the shame I felt throughout it all meant I couldn't tell anyone. And now as I celebrate 1000 days sober, I can't celebrate with anyone either.

So I'm putting it here, because this is a pretty fucking big deal for me, and I need someone else to know.

Thanks for reading!

Finally got a decent CRT monitor... And it broke after a day.

I bought this Iiyama Vision Master Pro 17 locally on Thursday. Got it up and running and everything was great until Friday afternoon. Had just finished a game of C&C when I returned to desktop and noticed the brightness had suddenly maxed out. Also the edges of the picture were warped. I turned the screen off and back on again and it was back to normal. However, I then fully turned off the PC and when I switched it back on a few hours later it was like this. It had been kept in a loft continuously since 2004 before I picked it up, and it smells pretty bad inside (the house i picked it up from was a mess) so I guess this was always possible but I'm gutted. I live in Glasgow so it's pretty rare for decent CRT monitors to pop up in my area. Currently on a mission to find someone to take a look at it. Hoping it's not too complex a repair?
