Interview

When goin through the interview it got wayyy too technical. How’d u guys prepare for it? I have a background in healthcare and have minimal knowledge of stats. Not to say that I can’t learn it I just don’t want to learn anything without getting paid at this point bc I feel like knowledge attainment is just another form of entertainment at that point

When Mercor x Patagucci?

If I hit a certain milestone, I will get myself a custom Mercor x Patagonia puffer vest.

Doctoral degrees

Lots of ppl state that doctoral degrees are worthless (in like humanities, and non STEM) but if AI training continues to boom, it may actually be the move to get a doctoral degree bc these platforms seem to prefer folks with PhDs (in a variety of domains) which makes sense for proper LLM training.

I’ve seen alot of non STEM PhDs that are insanely talented at evaluating AI outputs and probably would make really good AI researchers. The main difference I see in doctoral educated individuals is their reading comprehension skills are very high

What I’ve found while interacting with some Mercorians is that just bc someone isn’t in STEM doesn’t mean they’re not goated in their respective domain.

Personally as far as the next 20 yrs it’s obvious that any profession that requires licensure will not be replaced by AI (mostly healthcare but think law, CPA, etc) as the govt will not like it + lobbying

However, non healthcare/licensure requiring jobs (consulting, business/finance, physics, English, Bio, chemistry) likely will have a lot of job growth from platforms. While LLMs have shown a lot of growth in capability i have seen first hand how bad some AI outputs are; there’s still a ton of work to do

So colleges will likely see a drop in enrollment d/t news highlighting AI doomerism (it’s becoming mainstream) but it will kind of have a snapback reversal.

Trend following is good only when early to the trend…a lot of ppl are going into the trades now d/t what they hear, but remember supply and demand…the goal of capitalism is surplus labor and therefore there will likely not be a huge wage increase as may anticipate in the trades 20 yrs out

I think AI training is the new gold rush if AI expenditure continues to 🚀

Thoughts?

Hourly rate

How many of you started with a low rate and moved upwards?

By low rate i mean anything <$100 (considering taxes are not taken out; no benefits)?

Mercor>Expert Networks

I have done a couple consulting expert network gigs with Alphasights and GLG and shit was lame, hourly rate was like 250/hr but there were seldom any gigs on a consistent basis. This seems to be the case with all of em.

Mercor mogs expert network consulting already. What I love most about the Mercor community is that its filled with genuinely smart people who are about getting that bread.

Understand that you, me, yo mama are embattled in economic warfare. Stack your bread accordingly. Marc Andreessen level confidence in everything you do is a must not just for you but for the client. You must manifest 20k weeks.

Upskill

Any reference/study material to get better at the whole AI training? Is it normal to struggle with this in the beginning? Cuz I’m struggling

Cracked Contractors

A lot of people tend to talk about how a lot of the contractors are dumb (it’s really just anxiety—some ppl are dealing with a lot, no need to disparage)

Not enough people are talking about some insanely cracked contractors. IMO some of the most talented AI evaluators are journalists, authors, and lawyers…

Respect! 🫡 tryna get like yall sheeesh!

The Art of Pushin P

One of the most important pillars to success as a Mercorian is to remember why you’re here— pushin P

Yes you should do quality work but I should expect to get that pape for it ‼️

When you press that play button on insightful you’re pushin P.

The client is paying Mercor probably minimum 5x whatever they’re paying you

Confidence level must be top tier--the money simply is yours to take. You wake up, get out of bed and seize the day. You must have that Marc Andreessen level smug confidence lol (see reference 5).

Nobody’s going to offboard you for leaving the timer (what the f**k u mean?!) on when going to the bathroom; yall gotta have more respect for your time 😂 run that shit. I like to get paid to 💩 studies show it helps promote gut motility and smoother bowel movements

Hope you all are able to get some P and do something nice for yourself, family, friends etc.

Sometimes u gotta just let that timer run a bit longer.

These boys got 350 Ms in a series C I promise u they got too much motion to be concerned about the extra $50 bucks u made from leaving insightful on an extra 30 min 😂 they got motion

If you read this and feel upset or outraged please refer to reference material below so as to get some motion

80 hrs

How many of y’all are on projects that let u do 80 hrs? I think it’s inevitable that the big ol 23k project will allow for 80 hrs after the new task drop…i imagine a lot of people are hardly getting hours or dont have the time to work that much so surprised that there’s a 40 hr cap

In any case—im trying to land another project asap. Should I add on my resume my experience on this project or is it already known internally
