As an advanced player, how do you continue improving?

(Pic for fun) I’m an advanced player, 15 or so years under my belt, lots of gigs etc. Other advanced players, how do you keep getting better? I feel so stagnant and often watch others absolutely shredding and say “why can’t I do that?”. I just feel like there’s still lots of room to level up. Anyways, what are you doing to practice, improve, stay inspired, etc?

Headed to Maine in August

Heading to the Paris, Maine area (from MA) for a few days at the end of August. Is there anywhere to shoot that doesn’t require being a member? Would love to get some practice in while I’m up there or a meet up! (Pic from last cleaning)

Quitting after a month?

Some background - 30yo I just started an IT Manager position at a small non profit (sole tech person) 5 days in office and below average pay. This is my first “real” job. I’m so grateful to have gotten this job in the current market but full time in office is NOT for me (been working freelance software dev remotely and also in person lighting designer/programmer for concerts).

I thought I’d like the consistent income etc but the office thing is killing me, I watch the clock all day long just waiting for 4:30 to come around.

Here’s the part I’m struggling with. I’m replacing a guy that’s retiring (he’s been part time for 4 years) and he’s trained me and passed the whole system along to me. It’s his last day today. I feel so scared and awkward to quit but I need to get out of here. Please, I need some guidance or reassurance.

77ish Halifax LP Questions

Just picked up this 77 Halifax LP Deluxe (bolt on) at a local shop. I’ve been looking for a Greco version of this but I ended up buying this on a whim and I’m feeling some remorse as I actually don’t know these are worth. I’ve always trusted the guy at this shop but he kinda talked me into it saying this is basically an Ibanez yada yada and that they usually go for more and boom I handed him $1400….looking for some advice on the value of this thing, and if it’s not worth anything near that how I can go about exchanging it or something. I will say it plays great and sounds awesome though.

So I loaded a mag of hollow points and went to rack the slide. It immediately felt kind of funky, and I noticed I couldn’t engage the safety.

I dropped the mag, pulled the slide back, and held it there. One round popped out, but there was still another round left in the chamber.

At that point I noticed the hammer wasn’t actually locked back. It seemed like it was only being held back because I had the slide partially retracted, and I could see some movement in the hammer. I’m not exactly sure when or how that happened.

I want to emphasize that I NEVER had my finger on the trigger and never pulled the trigger at any point.

The slide was also stuck about 1/4" out of battery and wouldn’t go fully forward. Keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction, I used a screwdriver to secure the hammer back and then racked the slide against the edge of a desk. After that, the hammer finally locked back properly.

I then racked the slide again, still pointed in a safe direction, and the remaining round ejected.

So now I’m pretty confused about what exactly happened and honestly a little spooked. This was on my Springfield TRP, which also happens to be my first 1911.

TLDR Loaded hollow points into my Springfield TRP 1911, racked the slide, and something felt wrong immediately. Safety wouldn’t engage, the slide got stuck partially out of battery, and the hammer wasn’t properly locked back. One round ejected but another stayed chambered. I safely cleared it without touching the trigger, but the whole thing was sketchy and I’m confused/spooked about what caused it.

Just picked up my dream gun. Springfield TRP Carry Contour in 9mm. Looking to AIWB this, something that will keep that grip nice and tucked in.
