Lots of people come here and ask "where do I start" or "which book do I read first," and instead of subjecting them to ridicule it might be nice to have a pinned "START HERE" post at the top of the subreddit which gives the basic rundown of the literary structure of the Legendarium. I'm sure there will be some who contest this, but I humbly suggest the official post to recommend Hobbit -> LOTR -> Silmarillion. There should also be a "Movie or Book First?" section (either attached to the reading order post or pinned separately) which gives the pros and cons of watching the movies first and reading the books first.

It’s Father’s Day in the United States. Which character from Ninjago would you want as a father? Not the best in-universe father, but if anyone could be your father which would you pick?
What I mean is: there are quite a few times in the show when the Bartlett administration wins not due to the superiority of their stance or even a clever argument, but by pointing out something about the “villain” (very few people in the show are actually straight-up evil so I put it in quotes) completely unrelated to the issue. The problem is whatever it is they point out could have easily not existed, in which case they would have lost. Not because anything about the arguments or policies changed, but because they were dealing with a slightly more competent opponent.
Example 1: a disgruntled general is going to retire and will extensively badmouth the administration. This is a serious issue I imagine many administrations might face. Instead of making a logical or clever argument for why he shouldn’t, or accepting that he will and that they have to work around it, they just point out he’s wearing a medal he hasn’t earned and threaten to expose him if he speaks out. The show treats this as some sort of incredibly clever victory. But most generals aren’t stupid enough to wear medals they haven’t earned. What would they have done if the general didn’t have such low-hanging fruit with which to (essentially) blackmail him with? The show implies they would have nothing.
Example 2: at the Christmas party, the President confronts a radio show host who spouts hateful rhetoric about homosexuality based on the Bible. Bartlett humiliates her by pointing out she doesn’t have a theological degree (and in fact is “merely” a doctor of English). Instead of engaging with the merits of her argument, he throws a strawman Leviticus verse at her and exposing her lack of credentials to discuss theological matters. Aside from the fact that Bartlett is also not a theologian (his degree is in economics), many of the speakers who advocate this sort of rhetoric against homosexuality are, in fact, doctors of theology from reputable seminaries. What would Bartlett have done if in response to his question “and what is your doctorate in, ma’am?” she responded “Theology”? The show doesn’t contemplate that answer because it was more interested in giving Bartlett a cheep victory.

In The Motion Picture, V'ger is often accompanied by a low synth sound, almost a "twang." I always took it for granted that this was a function of the score: that is, entirely non-diegetic. But it recently occurred to me that maybe this is what V'ger actually sounds like, in-universe. That the "twang" is diegetic and can be heard by the characters. I have no idea how to prove or disprove this hypothesis, but I welcome your thoughts.
I’m quite unhappy with this. Aside from being unique, Crossroads was often cheaper than the franchised restaurants. They also served a variety of breakfasts. Notably, I don’t recall Crossroads ever being not busy. Replacing it with Panera is just a vain attempt at being “hip.”
There is a glitch on some Monster Maroon/WOK uniforms that causes the first color of the badge and the first color of the belt to sync to each other. Since the badge and belt are supposed to be different colors, this creates either a strange looking belt or a strange looking badge. Has anyone discovered a work-around or a trick to make them different colors?
I just learned about this uniform recently. I was very surprised to learn there was a uniform more formal than the typical brown service dress and less than the full ceremonial dress (varies by regiment but usually red). I would not have guessed the British Army wears dark blue on formal occasions.
