I have an 8yo EggGenius with a dead radio, but the fan still worked.

Having a microcontroller and a bunch of electronic parts on hand… I tinkered. Especially since I didn’t want to spend $250 to replace the EggGenius.

So what is this?

The device connects to my Combustion Inc Grill Gauge and gets the current pit temperature. From there it uses simple logic to determine how hard to spin the Egg Genius fan.

The whole thing is LiPo powered so I don’t have to run a power cord to my grill anymore.

It does not connect into any services, and it does not show you a graph or other data… for the moment.

The enclosure could be better designed… and the software needs more testing, but it is better than nothing.

So when you have microcontrollers, motor controllers, and a soldering iron on hand… you tinker. Especially when you have a CE on order and don’t want to spend $250 on a replaced EggGenius.

First, it needs to be pointed out that Combustion has taken the amazing step of making their Bluetooth protocol extremely well documented. This is a type of openness that is rare and commendable.

So what is this?

It is my holder over to get a blower working for my BGE until the Combustion Engine ships.

It pulls the GGG out temperature data and then runs a very simple algorithm to determine how hard the old Egg Genius fan should run.

It is LiPo powered so I don’t have to run a power cord to my grill anymore.

It needs an enclosure designed, probably new soldering to make it easier to put in the enclosure… and more, but it is a first step.

Definitely unique to have a badge that is for an event, not a trail…

But EJS deserves it.

Found in Crown Hill in the middle of 8th near 89th around 7:30PM.

Cars were swerving around it, so I saved it.
