Windrock Park
I took my DRZ4S to Windrock Park in Oliver Springs Tn. Second time. Great place. Everyone is very friendly and the trails are pretty damn good.

Second week of summer league. My average this winter in one league was 203 and in another, an even 200. Apparently my house got a new lane machine. I saw it in action. I guess it poured out an oily sport shot.
262 around the corner and a 420 something for the night. I’m trying to be philosophical about it and def need to work on my game to get better but damn. I’ve bowled sport shots before and was better than this.
I can say I tried to get better and make changes and all that. Just did not get much better as the night wore on. Didn’t help I missed 6 out of 7 10 pins. Brutal but 🤷♂️. Last week I threw a 598 which is damn near as bad.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
I installed Zeta hand guard with the triple tree mount. Had to mod the right turn signal mount to get it to work. I have the factory replacement if needed. I cut it off and shaped it to match the left mount. The paint isn't as bad as this picture. The stuff fell there when I bolted it up. Looks cleaner now.
I had to fiddle with the controls some to make sure there was nothing rubbing. The throttles are good lock to lock so nothing is pulling or binding.
Overall Im pretty pleased! Also a Dunlop 605 and a Kenda 270 getting mounted this week.
Going out again for a few day in a week.
cables too close initially, the glob of finish wiped off and its cleaner now
I am super new to off roading (4 times out, maybe 60 miles worth).
I have improved a great deal at standing and riding. My specific question is about shifting and more importantly for me , braking while standing.
When standing with my heel on the peg I can easily brake. When the arch of my foot is on the peg I can reach the shifter but it is too high.
I’m fine with the heel areas on the peg and it feels pretty natural, I just didn’t know if this was considered poor foot placement.
I can adjust the brake if need be but don’t know if I need too.
Shifting is gonna take more time but I’m working on it.
Went to Windrock Park. Even tried a few “moderate difficulty trails”. Had an awesome time. As a long time road rider (35 years) and a new off roading rider I’m more stoked to ride than ever. I also helped a rat snake off the trail.
Saw this in Windrock Park. A huge Tennessee off road park. He was sunning himself on a trail. I gave his tail a little pet to get his attention, he got offended and then slithered off the trail. Think it’s a speckled kingsnake.
I mounted this “Bucket Boss” tool bag onto my PMR rack with six stainless screws, fender washers and lock nuts. I isolated the screw heads with rubber fender washers underneath. The speed tape covers the access for the mounting bolt for the rack.
This will allow me to carry some tools and whatnot without needing a backpack. This is a strictly temporary solution but will work for the summer.
Leaving for Windrock Park tomorrow !
I am heading to Knoxville and on to Windrock Park and then Gatlinburg. I have over 35 years of on road experience and about 8 hours of off road experience LOL. I added the skid plate, the radiator guard and the PMR rack (which I highly recommend). I am going to mount up the tool bag with one stainless bolt and fender washers.
I wish I had time to mount up the Dunlop 605. I have a Kenda 270 for the front. Wanted 50/50 tires and they both had good ratings.
Thursday is my 32nd wedding anniversary and my wife basically bought the DRZ for me. I was just talking about it a bunch and she said "just go buy it". Bold order since this I now my 5th bike.
I have been having a hoot riding this thing and have basically been getting it scratched up muddy and broken in the right way.
Im going solo as the Mrs doesn't ride and my riding buddy can't join me there.
Any suggestions are welcome. I don't plan on much more than easy trails but my experience out here says there is always some surprises. I dinged up the Bronco on my first trip but oh well. Im not afraid to scratch the DRZ that's for sure. I dropped it 4 times in the mud, sand and steep hills at an off road park close to where I live.
One thing I learned real quick. My sportbike and Harley experience mean absolutely nothing off road. The only thing they all have in common is that they are motorcycles.
The bike is still stock but the pile of parts grows.
I have a set of AXP racing radiator guards being delivered today.
A set of Zeta hand guards. With a few mount options
A TMD full coverage skid plate
A precision motorcycle rack rear rack
I have had it off road one time and decided to replace the tires because I want to do lots more of that.
I got a Dunlop 605 rear and a Kenda 270 front. What else do I need.
