Cultural adjustment: What parts of daily life in Sweden took you the longest to get used to?

Hi everyone,

I'm a Brazilian currently living in Portugal, and I've been learning more about Sweden lately. I'm fascinated by the lifestyle, the social dynamics, and the overall rhythm of life in the country.

Instead of looking at policies or numbers, I'm deeply curious about the real, everyday human experience of adapting to Swedish society.

For those who moved to Sweden from abroad, or even for locals observing newcomers: what specific aspects of daily life, local customs (like the social etiquette around fika or lagom), or community integration usually take the longest to truly click?

I’d love to hear your personal stories and insights on what the learning curve looks like when trying to genuinely fit into the local rhythm.

Tack!

A Brazilian Curious About Uruguay: How Is Brazil Taught There?

Hi everyone! I’m a Brazilian who’s always been curious about Uruguay.

I was born and raised in central Brazil, far from any international border. Growing up, we often heard about Argentina, Paraguay, and even Bolivia, but strangely, Uruguay was probably the neighboring country I heard the least about. That made me even more curious.

I’d love to know: how is Brazil taught in Uruguayan schools, especially in history classes? What role does Brazil play in the way you learn about your country’s history? Are there any historical events involving Brazil that receive special attention?
I’m also curious about how Uruguayans see Brazil today. What comes to mind when you think about Brazil? Do you feel that our countries are culturally close, or do you see them as quite different despite being neighbors?

I’d really appreciate hearing your perspectives. Thanks!

Buying a car in Luxembourg

Hello everyone.

I’m buying my sister’s car, which is currently registered in Luxembourg, and I will register it in Portugal.

My question is:

If she goes to the SNCA and deregisters the vehicle first, I won’t be able to drive it to Portugal and I would need temporary plates, which would cost both time and money. Is there any way for me to drive the car to Portugal using the original documents, and only have her deregister it afterwards with the Luxembourg authorities?

As far as I understand, in Portugal I will need the original vehicle documents and a purchase and sale contract in order to complete the transfer.

Thank you!

Transitioning to SAP FI with zero consulting experience. Am I making the right bet?

Hi everyone,

I have a background in accounting and spent 5 years working in banking. I also have some data skills and a working knowledge of SQL. Currently, I am enrolled in a SAP Academy here in Portugal, specializing in the FI module.

I would love to get your insights: do you think this is a good path? Is the European SAP consulting market still going strong, and is it worth the investment of time and money?

For context, I have some end-user experience with SAP MM (for about 6 months) and SAP CRM, but no hands-on consulting experience, so I am a bit concerned about breaking into the market.

What are your thoughts?

How do Romanians views immigration this days?

Hi everyone,

I’m Brazilian and currently living in Portugal. I’ve recently become interested in Romania and Romanian society, and I’d like to better understand local perspectives on immigration.

I know this can be a sensitive topic, so I’m not looking for political debates. I’m genuinely curious about how Romanians view immigration today and whether attitudes have changed in recent years.

I’d especially appreciate hearing opinions about immigrants who come to work, learn Romanian, and try to integrate into society.

Thanks!

¡Me encantaría conocer vuestra perspectiva honesta y vuestros consejos! Muchas gracias.

How do Czechs view immigration these days?

Hi everyone,

I’m Brazilian and currently living in Portugal. I’ve become increasingly interested in the Czech Republic, its culture, history, and way of life, and I’m curious about local views on immigration.

I know this can be a sensitive topic, so I’m not looking for political arguments. I’d simply like to understand how Czechs generally view immigration today and whether attitudes have changed in recent years.

I’m especially interested in hearing opinions about immigrants who come to work, learn Czech, and make an effort to integrate into society.

Thanks!

How do people in the Baltics view immigration these days?

Hi everyone,

I’m Brazilian and currently living in Portugal. One of the reasons I became interested in the Baltic countries is that my brother-in-law is Lithuanian, and through him I started learning more about the region, its history, culture, and people. Since then, I’ve developed a real interest in the Baltics.

I know immigration can be a sensitive topic, but I’m genuinely curious about the local perspective. How do people in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania generally view immigration today? Has that changed much in recent years?

I’m especially interested in hearing what locals think about immigrants who come to work, learn the language, and integrate into society.

*If I’ve posted in the wrong place, please let me know.

Thanks!
