Service Merchandise receipt from 1982 for a Colecovision

44 years later it still works. $197.76 is about $686.78 today according to the inflation calculator. The game cartridge was $29.97, so about $104 today.

Does anyone know the name of the curved street where Home Depot is on Lawrenceville Highway?

EDIT. Consensus says it’s Wages Drive. Thanks for the help, everyone! r/DecaturGA is the best!!

First photo is an aerial map from 1955 (atlantatimemachine.com) and the map in photo 2 is from 1954. Photo 3 is a modern map. The curved street wasn’t named so I’m curious what it was called. It ran between Lawrenceville Highway and Valley Brook, now renamed North Valley Brook after I-78 was built in the late 60s. I think the Home Depot was built in the early to mid nineties.

Before and after Chairry

I ordered a box full of used Pee-wee’s Playset figures. They were pretty dirty and all came clean after a light scrubbing in dish detergent. Well, except Chairry.

I was nervous about scrubbing too much since she’s covered in flocking that was already coming off her arms.

Any idea how to clean her without taking off more flocking? I gave her a short soak in some warm water and oxiclean, which helped a lot.

I watched a video where someone re-flocked the hair of a 1960s Ken doll and it doesn’t look too hard.

I found this while picking up trash. It seems to be a lapel pin, heavy and metallic. I’m mostly curious what it depicts. Seems like a map?

The stickpin is gone and there seems to be a starburst on the back

S&H Green Stamps

A few weeks ago I posted some art I made from old coupons and green stamps. Several folks asked about green stamps and today I found some of my mother’s folders and a brochure of some textiles the stamps could be redeemed for.

Well, that was a first! (NSFW)

As I was De/Trashing along the highway near my neighborhood, a young man came up beside me and thanked me for keeping the streets clean. Through the years I’ve been given many thanks and occasionally some offers of water or coffee purchases.

Well, this youngster offered me something much more…intimate, shall we say? I politely declined saying my partner would disapprove. Still, having recently turned 65 and starting Medicare, it was rather flattering

Thanks to r/Decatur for window recommendations!

A while ago I asked for window replacement recommendations and y’all gave me great ones! The best quotes were from Quinn and MWT. We decided on Quinn because they came in lower, though it wasn’t an easy decision.

After a rain delay the installation happened yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. 12 windows and 2 doors, all installed in one day with caulking, insulation, and really precise sheet metal finishing around all the units. It looks terrific and made the rest of the house look kinda shabby in comparison, so painting is next.

Thanks, kind Redditors, for sharing your expertise and knowledge with me. You are greatly appreciated!

Shame on you, Mo!

Soooo much Chick-fil-A garbage!

We had a week of rain so I didn’t pick up trash for eight days. Over 21 pounds once I went back to DeTrashing.

Does anyone know what’s being built on the old Sonic location on Lawrenceville Highway?

It’s across the street from Goodwill and Home Depot. My friend was trying to shoot video in a hurry so it’s pretty blurry.

FYI - local to dekalb / tucker

Folks:

I am always tired of all the extra political signs, especially in the right-of-way near polling places. I drive by the Cofer Library at the corner of Lavista Road / Lawrenceville Hwy / Old Norcross Road daily. When polling first started there were a ton of signs. Two days later they were gone! Yea! The next day there were about four of five. I removed them. For the last few weeks, there have been none. On Monday, there were about 40 new ones, mostly from one candidate. This time I called Code Enforcement for the City of Tucker. This morning they were ALL gone! Great job City of Tucker!

By the way, if you have a large item for trash pick-up, you must send an email requesting said pick-up. Most items are free. Just go to:

https://dekalbcountyga.gov/departments/public-works/sanitation/bulky-items-and-special-collections

and fill out the forms with photos. I have done this with some of my own items, as well as a few large items of my neighbors that I have seen sitting at the curb for over a week.

Lastly, if you see a street light malfunctioning, typically the new ones blink, go to this site:

https://www.georgiapower.com/about/grid-reliability/outage-information/report-street-light-outage.html

to report the outage. I am up to 29 reported and fixed street lights!

I finally have some money saved up to replace my 70-year-old windows, and possibly two doors if I can afford it. Does anyone have a company they like?

A neighbor recommended Quinn but I want to get several quotes.

They have free shipping and good prices but I’ve never heard of them. I searched BBB and didn’t find any complaints.
