Watering your larger plants/trees

Watering your larger plants/trees

My Tineke Rubber Tree and ZZ Plant are getting a bit to big and awkward to carry into the shower to water them.

How does everyone water their larger plants? Please tell me there is an easier way than just sucking all of the excess water out of the bottom with a turkey baster...

Rattlesnake Plant declining

I've had this plant for about 2.5 years now. I had switched up my plant set up so the location it was in changed to where it was closer to a grow light as well as getting some good (not great) natural indirect light as well.

After moving it, I noticedvi started losing leaves...and kind of quick. After pruning out all of the dead leaves, I thought maybe it could be the roots. I pulled it from the planter and not only were the roots healthy but I saw several pups under the surface that were making there way up.

So, thought number two was it possibly didn't like the increased light it was getting. I once again moved it to a different location with no grow lights but great indirect light similar to the spot that it was originally in.

It has been about a month and now the leaves are looking like this (pictured below) slowly losing one by one. BUT, it is pushing out a few new leaves (although smaller) and all of the pups I saw are now starting to surface.

What's going on with the leaves and how can I correct it?

Temperature ranges from 65-90 with humidity averaging about 65% right now (if it dips below 45%-50% I turn on the humidifiers. It has always been in a self watering planter and I only use distilled water. I fertilize my calatheas and lrayer plants minimally as I have noticed they are sensitive to fertilizer.

Rattlesnake plant declining

I've had this rattlesnake plant for about 2.5 years now. It was absolutely thriving, putting out new shoots non stop, maintaining nice color and just looked great.

I moved its location (which i have done in the past without getting a grumpitude) but I noticed the leaves starting to not do so well. After losing several leaves, I pulled it out of the planter to check the roots. Not only were the roots fine but I noticed several pups right below the surface that were about to pop up.

I was still losing leaves though so I thought maybe the new location was too bright which is why the leaves were fading; I moved it once again, into a spot that gets amazing bright light but never any direct light (it was getting some direct morning sun in previous spot).

It has been in the new location for about a month and I am still losing leaves (pics of leaves below). But... it is throwing out new leaves (although smaller) and all of the pups I saw below the surface are now all starting to pop up as well.

Any thoughts as to what could be doing this to the leaves or suggestions as to what to do?

Course Lava Gel

A friend of mine gifted me a ton (I mean a ton) of stuff. He is now into oil and wax paints so he gave me everything he had tbat was acrylic paint related. One of the things was a bucket of course lava gel. Can I use that in any way with paint pouring or is that more for painting over with a brush? Does anyone have examples of what they used it for?

Struggling Green Congo Nuclear

My Green Congo got root rot several months ago. I trimmed all roots back to a point where just a nub was left. I tried rooting it in water with no success. It was then suggested to try using just moss. It has been in the moss for about two months and still has zero roots growing, however, is still giving me new leaves. All leaves are curling though. I have had this plant roughly 1.5 years and the growing conditions have not changed.

It is ambient humidity which ranges between 50%-75%; if it drops lower, I use a humidifier. Temperature ranges from about 65F-80F. Most of its light comes from a 32w Sansi bulb which is about 18" above the plant.

Cotyledon orbiculata variegated

I have been wanting a cotyledon orbiculata variegated for a long while now. I have tried ordering a few and they all came in horrible condition. Would anybody have a reputable seller they can recommend to get one?

People that can relate to my excitement right now

This is absolutely, hands down, the best Etsy plant purchase I have ever made. I was amazed as to the size, the vibrant colors, the healthy condition of the plant.

Meet my new baby, Aglaonema Khanza.

If you have an Aglaonema and want to share any tips or tricks, I would love to hear them.

Favorite Plant Took a Turn and Don't Know Why

Hey Plant Fam,

My Rattlesnake Plant started to suddenly take a turn and I don't know why. As you can see from the pictures, the leaves are yellowing. I just gave it a good pruned and noticed how bare the center is. It was giving me new leaf after new leaf and then it just stopped.

None of the growing metrics have changed. Its about 2.5 years old. Could/Would a plant just suddenly get root rot if in a self watering planter?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Grow lights?

I am fortunate enough to live in an area where I can keep succulents outside year round. However, I am thinking of making a large broken pot garden (similar to one pictured but much larger)for my living room. What are the best lights to use that would help promote strong coloration and avoid etoliation?

I use primarily Sansi bulbs for my houseplants, but I am assuming I would need something stronger for succulents. I am looking for (preferably) a bulb to hang over the pot or a nice floor standing one.

First Attempt

I had a canvas laying around that was painted for a project I never completed. I got in a random mood to finally try paint pouring. I'm not exactly saying "OMG, I love it" but I do like the way it came out against tje orange canvas.

I realized instantly I needed more acrylic thinner but I made it work for what it was.

Any tips or tricks anyone can share? Homest feedback is welcome

Help me get started

I have aways been a very crafty and artsy person. I have recently taken an extreme liking to paint pouring. I know not all paints are created equal so I am looking for advice as to what kind of acrylic paints work best and what to avoid. Any and all other start up suggestions would be great as well as any kind of basic supplies I might need/want.

Leave it or check it?

I'm not new to pon but I've never had a plant completely flop like this. Its has been in the pon for only 1.5 weeks. Because it is freshly planted in the pon, I know the plant will be very loose. I also know that if a plant has root rot, it will be very loose.

Should I let it be or should I check the roots? I just don't want to stress it more than it is already.

Thoughts?

Pride of Sumatra

Hey plant fam. I want to add another aglaonema to my collection. I'm looking at pride of Sumatra, Lotus Delight or Khanza. Would anyone have any of these that you can share a picture? I am open to other kinds; I'd love to see pics of the variations; The pictures you see online can be misleading with the coloration of plants like these....

I got this Pink polly about a month ago. It was already in pon but needed a bigger pot. It lost one leaf, ok whatever, but now another; I checked the roots...and glad I did.

Most of the roots were rotten so I pulled those off. But the few roots that are not rot are growing water roots. In the middle of the two long roots in the picture, you can see a short healthy root growing as well.

Should I put it back in pon? Try to root it in water?

I've had this Crested Echeveria for about two months. It was shipped bare root. I didn't water it right away (as instructed). It sits in filtered sun outside and the only water it received was from the two or three times it lightly rained.

I noticed today that it is turning black but it is not mushy. Any help is appreciated.

Would you consider this bright indirect light and how far away from the window would you say is still considered bright indirect light?

I face South SouthEast. The balcony is a covered balcony which prevents the direct sun from coming inside year round. When the sun is lower in the sky during Fall and Winter, I get direct sun for about 3 feet inside.

I didnt put up the grow light on the left until I got the Tineke Tree but am wondering if I even need that grow light?

The grow light on the right has always been up but the plants just grow towards the window light and not up to the grow light.

Do I need either grow light?
