New 3D printed interlocking roads (lots of pics)

Hello fellow Epic fans!

I'd like to share these 3D printed roads from Brian Konopa (AcmePropDept on Etsy). They are printed in multi-coloured PLA so are ready to use right out of the box, but can also be painted and weathered as you see fit. I've included pictures of some of mine that I weathered with a grimy brown wash for that dirty post apocalypse urban warzone look.

The roads are available in two-lane and four-lane versions to represent different road types/sizes, but the really ingenious feature is the connecting system which uses small steel pins that fit into holes on the ends of each road section. This is one of the best connecting/locking systems I've ever seen on a road system and it holds everything together tightly, preventing things from sliding around the table. They're also really thin, with the curbs standing about 2 mm high from the table, so they blend into the playing surface really well.

The ones shown in the pictures here are the standard pattern in terms of road markings, but Brian is a really nice guy and always happy to work with customers on custom markings.

The Predator tanks in the first picture are 8 mm scale to give you an idea of their dimensions (I didn't have a ruler or banana handy).

--------

Full disclosure: While I did give Brian a few pointers during the development phase (mostly as a wargamer consultant since he comes from the model railway world), I do not receive any money from the sales. I'm just happy to have helped him make something cool. :)

12" x 12" city tiles update

With a nudge from u/vibribib I went to Cults and found these beautiful tiles. They're not free, but they're so cheap they may as well be. Each tile is 12" x 12" and detailed in the same fashion as those produced by GW for Legions Imperialis.

I've deleted my post about designing my own 12" x 12" GW-esque city tiles as it is now moot and was getting long due to my edits. Thanks to everyone that commented. I really appreciate your feedback. This community is truly wonderful.

GW Epic city road tile alternatives for Epic scale games

TLDR: I'm designing simple 12x12" city tiles similar to the GW Limp Civitas tiles but significantly cheaper, and would appreciate feedback from the Epic 40k hivemind :)

By now I'm sure we've all seen the (expensive!) city road tiles that GW released a while back for Legions Imperialis. They look nice, of course, but are way overpriced at more than 200 USD for a pack of only six!

There are some really nice alternative options out there for various tile systems for 3D printing and I've bought and tried a number of them myself. They're fantastic, except all that I've tried have been within the 4x4" to 8x8" size range. This is, of course, to make it possible to print them on most hobby size FDM printers (such as my Flashforge with its max. print volume of 220x220x220 mm (a little over 8x8x8"). The major downside for me when it comes to these tiles is that it takes me ages to print out and paint enough for a full table.

Like many of us, I have a really demanding job (65+ hrs/week) so my hobby time is extremely limited, and I'd rather spend it painting armies and playing games than printing and building tiles. Don't get me wrong, I love making my own terrain, but it's just not possible for me to print and paint enough tiles in the limited free time I have for hobbying.

One way I'm trying to address this is to create smaller 2mm thick tile components that can be stuck down to a sheet of 12x12" MDF. I've seen others have success with variations on this method, so I'm going to give it a shot. Nevertheless, it does still seem like a lot of faffing around that will occupy a ton of time.

So, I've had another idea that I think might work: design my own 12x12" tiles (using my favourite browser-based CAD software, Tinkercad!) that I can farm out to a larger format printing service.

I've included some pictures of prototypes: just plain tiles with a road, gutters, path/sidewalk, and blank areas for buildings. There are four tiles in total, with which can be built pretty much any dense, urban built-up area. Please take a look at the pics. The first pic shows the four basic tiles (plain right now, no cracks, texture, or weathering), and the second pic shows an example 3x5' layout.

I'm hoping the Epic hivemind can give me some feedback on how useful and it would be to do this, and whether anyone would actually use them. I imagine most of us with FDM printers don't have machines with sufficiently large build plates, so they (like me) would need to farm it out or chop them into bits to be glued together afterwards (which sort of defeats the purpose).

So what do you all think?

(1) Would people even want such a thing?

(2) Would people be more interested in textured, weathered, cracked, and otherwise damaged tiles rather than just plain ones?

(3) Do any of you have 3D FDM printers large enough to print them?

If there's interest in the plain ones, I'd happily throw the files up on Thingiverse for people to try out in return for some feedback.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

Cheers!

S.

Squats from late M2

The 1990s gave us many great things, but in my humble opinion, one of the best were the squats. These arrived today and kicked me right in the nostalgia!

Not a Hellhammer

I haven't painted it yet as I'm worried it might need more guns first ;)

Edit: u/admiralteee corrected my mistake in the title: This is, in fact, a Stormhammer, not a Hellhammer. Thank you, Admiral 🫡

Epic scale OPR?

Hello all. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm looking for info/suggestions.

I'm a big fan of the various editions of Epic 40k by Games Workshop and played a lot of it as a kid back in the late 80s and early 90s. My favourite editions are 2nd (Epic Space Marine) and 4th (Epic Armageddon).

I know that there is no official OPR ruleset for Epic scale (6–8 mm) sci-fi battles, but I'm wondering if there are any fan-made rules that would work at that scale. Any suggestions on how to make it work using OPR mechanics would also be appreciated.

I'm pretty new to OPR but have really enjoyed the Grimdark Future games I've played so far, and I think an Epic scale version would be great fun.

Thanks in advance.

Banelord proxy

I'm really looking forward to slapping some paint on the banelord titan proxy.

It does have a swirly mechanical tail, but it's really short and I'm tempted to sculpt a more substantial one.

3D printed daemons

I'm starting to paint daemons for my Word Bearers' daemon pool, which means dealing with a bunch of 3D printed warp denizens.

This bloodthirster (by EpicRich) is a gorgeous model, but fragile. The bloodletters (not pictured) are similarly fragile, with their hellblades snapping rather easily if handled incorrectly.

I will paint them up anyway, and time will tell how long they survive!

Squats! (Please stop me)

I found a really great set of STL files on the purple site for a mere US$15 that hit me right in the nostalgia. Naturally, I purchased them immediately and now I have a plethora of files for printing every glorious squat unit you could possibly imagine. And yes, there's a land train!

I'm half way through a large CSM army and I need another army like I need a hole in my head, so please tell me "no!" and "do not start another army!".

If you want a link to the squat army files, just send me a message. They are really fun. :)

10 mm British army general officer, Peninsular War

I was sorting through old photos last night and came across this fine gentleman—a 10 mm scale British officer I painted back in 2018 for a Peninsular War project that, sadly, never got finished.

There's a box full of British, Portuguese, Spanish, and of course, French 10 mm troops sitting on a shelf in my hobby room. Hopefully I'll get back to them at some point in the future... once I've finished with the three Epic 40k armies I'm fighting with!

Thanks for looking!

Sam

Dwarf giant slayer (Marauder, 1993)

Hello everyone! I'm new to the sub, but thought you might like my Marauder dwarf giant slayer. This fellow is one of my all-time favourite dwarf miniatures, but 10-yr-old me never got to buy him when he was released with the other Marauder slayers in 1993. I finally grabbed him on eBay a few years ago and painted him up. Hope you all like him as much as I do!

New account, same old grog

Hello everyone! Somehow, I have gotten myself locked out of my old account (u/Plasma_Ass), so I've created this new account instead.

Pics are of some of my recent Epic scale Word Bearers as the best form of "proof" I can think of. Not great, I know, but the best I could come up with. You'll just have to take my word for it, but I can assure you all that I am me. Or at least I was the last time I checked!
