Did anyone submit extra documents (at appointment) for education loan from NBFC to avoid a proof of funds objection?

Hi everyone,

I'm applying for an Austrian student residence permit from India and have already submitted my application.

My proof of funds is an education loan with my father as the financial sponsor. I recently saw another applicant receive an objection stating that education loan funds in the student's name are considered "borrowed funds" and asking for additional evidence of means of subsistence.

This made me wonder whether I should proactively submit additional documents now or simply wait for the authority's response.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation?

  • Did you submit documents such as your sponsor's ITRs, employment/service certificate, salary slips, bank statements, and affidavit of financial support at the time of your appointment, even though they were not specifically requested?
  • If yes, did your residence permit get approved without any objection regarding proof of funds?
  • Or did you submit only the required documents initially and wait for the authority to ask for additional evidence?
  • Looking back, would you recommend proactively sending these documents, or waiting for an official request?

I'm specifically looking for experiences from applicants who used an education loan as proof of funds for an Austrian student residence permit.

Thanks in advance!

TU Dresden Nanoelectronic system (NES)

Hello everyone

Has anyone who applied to the TU Dresden Nanoelectronic Systems (NES) Master's program received an admission decision from the admissions committee recently?

In particular, I'm interested in applicants whose applications reached the university around 15 April (via Uni-Assist).

Have you received an admit, rejection, or are you still waiting?

Thanks in advance!

How would you rate this Master's curriculum for Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design? Worth joining?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering joining this Master's program in Integrated Systems and Circuit Design (curriculum attached).

My goal is to work in analog, mixed-signal, PMIC, data converter, or RF IC design in the semiconductor industry.

One unique aspect of the program is a 3-semester mixed-signal IC project where students design, tape out, and characterize an ADC in TSMC 65nm technology, gaining hands-on silicon experience.

The program also has industry collaborations and opportunities to work with major semiconductor companies during projects/thesis.

My main concern is that it's a University of Applied Sciences and not a globally well-known university.

Questions:

  • How would you rate this curriculum for someone targeting analog/mixed-signal/PMIC design?
  • How valuable is the tape-out experience compared to university reputation?
  • Would you choose this over a more prestigious university with less hands-on design exposure?

Thanks in advance for any insights

Non-EU student: Legal options for accommodation proof without signing a full lease yet?

Hallo zusammen,

I am a non-EU/EEA student admitted to FH Kärnten in Villach. For my residence permit application, I need proof of accommodation.

Most rentals I have found require signing a contract and paying a deposit of around €1,500–€2,000 before arrival. While I understand the landlord also needs security, I am hesitant to transfer such a large amount from abroad before seeing the property in person.

Is there a legal and practical solution that would make both parties comfortable? For example, is it possible to have a written reservation agreement, preliminary rental agreement, or another arrangement that could be used for residence permit purposes, with the final contract signing and deposit payment completed after arrival in Austria?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation, especially international students in Villach.

Vielen Dank!

Looking for a flatmate near FH Kärnten (Villach)

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming Master’s student at FH Kärnten (starting this winter semester) and I found an apartment option near Villach that could work well if shared.

Details:
• Approx. €400/month per person (warm rent – utilities included)
• Deposit: €1200-1400
• It is 1 bedroom apartment with double bed

• Short-term stay for around 3–5 months for now

About me:
• 22M international student
• Prefer a quiet environment for studying and relaxing
• Sociable but not into loud parties

I’m open to sharing with another student or working professional if the arrangement works.

The apartment can also be useful for students who need accommodation confirmation for visa / residence permit purposes.

If interested, feel free to DM me!

Hello everyone,

It’s been quite some time since I’ve been back in Nagpur.

I’m looking for good places to play table tennis or badminton near Ayodhya Nagar / Balaji Nagar.

Also, if anyone is interested in partnering up for games sometime, feel free to reach out. I don’t really know many people here at the moment.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate some honest advice from people in academia/industry.

I’m currently planning my Master’s in Austria at a Fachhochschule kärnten (University of Applied Sciences). I know it’s not as globally recognized as traditional research universities, but the program itself is very industry-focused and strong.

Some key points about my profile:

- The program includes full tape-out experience as part of the curriculum (which seems quite rare for MS students)

- I’ll be doing an internship at Infineon

- Likely continuing at Infineon for my Master’s thesis

- Planning to publish my thesis work in a journal

My concern is:

The university name itself isn’t very well-known internationally and I plan to pursue PhD after 3-4 years of experience after graduating.

So my question is:

For PhD admissions (especially in the US), what matters more — the reputation of the university or the actual experience (tape-out, industry work, publications, etc.)?

Do you think with this kind of profile I could realistically aim for strong programs like Stanford, UT Austin, Texas A&M, etc.?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has taken a similar path or is involved in PhD admissions.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to get some honest opinions from people in chip design / semiconductor industry.

I have an admit from FH Kärnten (Austria) for the Master’s in Integrated Systems and Circuit Design. I genuinely like the course, it’s very applied and industry-oriented. Students even get to do a full tapeout as part of the program, which I don’t see often in other universities. Also, it’s located in Villach near a major Infineon fab, and most students end up doing internships there during their master’s.

So overall, the practical exposure and industry connection seem really strong.

The only concern I have is that the university itself doesn’t have much global recognition. Since Austria has a relatively small semiconductor ecosystem, I might need to switch countries later. I’m also considering doing a PhD in the future, and I’m not sure if coming from an FH (University of Applied Sciences) would be a disadvantage, even if I focus on doing a strong thesis and possibly publishing.

So my main questions are:

- In industry (especially companies like NVIDIA, Apple, AMD, etc.), what matters more, your university name or your skills + practical experience?

- For those familiar with Fachhochschule (FH) systems, would doing a master’s from there limit opportunities for PhD later (US or Asia etc.)?

Would really appreciate honest insights, especially from people already working in the field.

Thanks!

Editted : Thanks everyone for clearing my doubt... If anyone can help with question regarding phd, would really appreciate it.
