Born on this day in 1921, who is the Hollywood star seen here in evening gloves and a cut-away one-piece swimsuit for one of the most talked-about publicity portraits of the 50s?

She had already caused a stir in The Outlaw, held her own opposite Marilyn Monroe, and by 1954 was still giving studio publicity departments exactly what they wanted: glamour, mischief and headlines. We sadly lost her in February 2011.
