Reasonably priced restaurants in Douglas

Hi, we visit every year & stay in the Stakis Bestwestern casino hotel the far end of the Douglas prom. They’ve closed their restaurant which is a shame, it was a reasonable carvery with good views.

Out of everywhere we go, Douglas seems to be the hardest to find a reasonably priced reasonably good restaurants.

Does anyone have any recommendations? With the (mainland) usual prices of say £10 for starters and £15-25 mains?

Many thanks.

A question about traffic cruise control speeds.

Hi, I test drove a model three today and it was fantastic. I have to wait till next September as I’m tied into a PCP which is annoying, but I will just have to wait. A question about something.

I set the cruise control to be set to the speed limit in the menu. I pushed the right hand wheel to start the system when in a 30 limit and it went to 30 i.e. tye repeat of the sign said 30, and the number is next to it said 30 and the car went at 30.

The limit went to 40, all okay, 50 all okay. I clicked the target speed up to 52. Then the limit dropped to 40. The repeat of the speed limit sign (i.e. the picture of the round sign with 40 in it) said 40 but the target speed next to it still said 52 and the car went at 52. So the car knew the speed was now 40, but the target speed stayed at 52. And I couldn’t work out why.

What does MJ do?

I’m on my second week. I’m amazed so far. I think it does these things:

1 stops me thinking about food
2 drastically reduces my appetite
3 I want smaller portions when I eat
4 I feel full after a small helping.

Do you all agree?

Oral-B IO6 upgraded version

Hi

I had a three year old IO6. It has the black-and-white display, but was fast charging on the traditional style Charger. I’ve been extremely happy with it.

I noticed that on Amazon the price of the 6 goes up and down enormously, and I was lucky to see it at £95. With a three year warranty. I grabbed it in the colour I wanted to, and charged it when it arrived.

I gave the old one to my wife.

I had a surprise when I used the new one because the display is now colour, and very bright colours too. Blue, orange, red et cetera. Also the firmware is different. After you have finished brushing when you press the bottom button, instead of just showing the battery percentage, it now shows things such as the actual time you had correct pressure, and the time the pressure was too low and too high. There are also a lot more settings when in setting mode.

Obviously that is really great news, an upgrade to a colour screen and more functionality. I wondered if any of the other IO brushes have also had any upgrades, Ie in the firmware, where pushing the bottom button shows the pressure and time data.

First injection - didn’t feel it

Hi everyone, recently I posted saying I was really scared of the injection, thinking I was the only one. Loads of people said they had been the same and it was fine. I even had a couple of nightmares about the injection itself.

Just to say I did it tonight, in my stomach, gripped some tubby flesh and just pushed the injector onto it, and couldn’t even feel it.

Thanks again for all the words of support, it was much easier than I expected.

Jet2 737 hydraulics after shutdown? RH elec pump on.

I landed late at night on a jet2 737 at Birmingham Airport. I was in the front row, and while waiting for the front steps to be brought up I looked over the flight deck overhead panel. Engines were shut down, the APU was on, the left fuel pump switch was on. Window heat switches off, probe heaters off, APU bleed on, all as usual.

What intrigued me was the four hydraulic switches. As always both engine driven pumps were on, the left electrical pump was off - but the right B electrical pump was on.

I couldn’t think of any reason for the right hand hydraulic circuit to be pressurised, I always turn it off as part of the shutdown procedure. Any ideas?

What day is best?

Firstly, I am the poster who asked about being scared of injecting myself. I expected a few sarcastic replies but instead there have been tens of wonderful friendly supportive kind thoughtful and helpful comments. This is a wonderful group and thank you so much.

A simple question, how do you choose which day to do it? Once you pick a day, you have to stick with that day of course. Do you choose a weekend day because you probably have more time in which to do it? And any side effects straight after the injection wouldn’t affect a working day, at a guess?

Does anybody have any recommendations for the best day to do your injection? Many thanks in anticipation.

Stupid question about injecting

Hi everyone, I have almost decided to take the plunge, and reading posts on here, and seeing the amazing before and after photographs, has really convinced me.

But I have a small, stupid problem that is probably the only thing stopping me going ahead. So please don’t abuse me.

I don’t mind having vaccinations, it doesn’t really bother me. But the thought of injecting myself is really incomprehensible, I just can’t visualise doing it. Partially as I expect it hurts, partially because it just seems so strange to do it.

I guess all of you had a first time, how did you approach it, and where did you stick it? And where do you recommend sticking it for the first time? How do you know how deep / hard to stab it? And does it hurt much?

Why is Euston so awful?

Anyone that travels out of Euston will agree the experience is unbelievably awful. Many hundreds of people on the concourse, craning their neck and staring at their train on the departure board, waiting for it to suddenly state which platform it is, quite often just five or 10 minutes before departure time. Then two seconds later, hundreds of people charging towards the platform to get on the train before it goes.

My question is, why?? The whole experience would improve if platforms were announced 30 minutes before instead of 10 minutes before departure. People could then just amble along to their train and get on, without the huge surge of humanity that currently ensues.

Or even announce which platform the train will arrive at, before it comes in, so that people could walk down to the platform and wait for their train to arrive, let the arriving passengers off, then get on, which is what happens at pretty much every other rail station in the UK.

Why is Euston of all stations managed like this with passengers only being told and allowed onto the platform when the train is ready to go?

EBay new item prices are expensive

Quite often if I want to buy something specific and branded and new I look on both eBay and Amazon. I would say the majority of the time, the prices on eBay are higher and sometimes far higher than the price for the same new item on Amazon. I’ve looked at Phillishave shavers, Braun toothbrushes and heads, named manufacturers.

Amazon has the advantage of free next day delivery with prime, and also very easy free and quick returns if necessary. With payment returned the same day usually. Amazon also has the unconditional warranty, at least for 30 days from purchase.

It also applies to items from main dealers. I was looking at the price of a Swatch Mission to the Moon watch this week. For a new one, £250-320 on eBay. Three year old ones were £220-240. With probably no real warranty and £3.50 postage and delivery in up to a week’s time.

Direct from Swatch with free delivery and full warranty, and an unopened box, it is £240.

▲ 24 r/lidl

Hi everyone

I am cross posting this in both the Audi and Lidl groups. I shop in both stores and I’m always impressed at the quality of food, the prices and the middle aisle offers.

However, I find the location of pricing labels really confusing. Aldi as normal puts the price of an item on the edge of the shelf below it, which is pretty standard for UK supermarkets.

However and confusingly, Lidl puts the price of an item on the shelf edge ABOVE the item.

I wondered what the logic for this is? It is non-standard and really confusing when you go to look at the price on the shelf edge below only to realise it is for the item below it, not the item on the shelf next to it.
