Was I wrong for getting offended when a man said my body looked different from my picture?

I’m 24F and I recently moved to Joburg. I met a 40M I had been talking to online, and we had video-called before meeting, so he had already seen me on camera.

Before meeting him, I had sent him a picture of myself wearing a fitted crop top. When I actually went to meet him, I was wearing a black cardigan, polo neck, jeans and heels , so my body was obviously much more covered.

After meeting, he told me he didn’t see us moving forward romantically because the expectations from the photo I sent him versus meeting in person didn’t align for him. He said my “body profile” was different.

I got upset because I felt like he was implying that I had misrepresented myself. He never literally said “you’re fake,” but that's how I interpreted what he was saying.

I responded sarcastically that “then I should have come wearing a crop top,” because I was angry and felt judged. He then said he couldn't believe I thought he was fake and mentioned that I had unmatched him on the dating app.

The thing is, I genuinely didn't care whether he was short or tall. His height wasn't something I was judging him for. I came to meet him because I genuinely wanted to get to know him.

I'm not upset that he wasn't attracted to me. Everyone is entitled to their preferences. What bothered me was feeling like my body was being compared to one particular picture, when clothing, angles and posture can obviously change how someone's body looks.

He's also 40 and presents himself as a man of God, so I expected the situation to be handled with a little more maturity and grace.

I know I was angry when I responded, so maybe I could have handled my reaction better. But was I wrong for feeling offended by his comment, or am I taking it too personally?

Can you help with house keeper job ?

Hi everyone

I'm a 25 year old woman looking for housekeeping or cleaning work. I've been applying for jobs since December last year but I still haven't been able to find work.

I don't have children, so I'm flexible and available to relocate for the right opportunity.

I'm hardworking, honest, reliable, and willing to learn. I can help with general house cleaning, laundry, ironing, washing dishes, and keeping a home clean and organized.

If you or someone you know is looking for a housekeeper or cleaner, I'd be very grateful if you could reach out. Thank you so much.

I'm 25 years old and I never imagined my life would look like this.

I'm 25 years old and I never imagined my life would look like this.

I feel like I'm failing at adulthood before I've even had a chance to start. Every day feels like survival instead of living. I'm constantly stressed about money, trying to figure out how I'm going to get through the next day while pretending everything is okay.

The part that hurts the most is that I can't even afford basic toiletries. Soap, toothpaste, deodorant... things that most people don't even think twice about buying are things I have to go without sometimes. It's embarrassing to even admit because these are basic necessities, not luxuries.

I spend so much time acting like I'm okay because I don't want people to think I'm looking for pity. The truth is I'm exhausted. Mentally, emotionally and financially, I feel drained. I'm trying to find opportunities, I'm trying to build a better future, but it's hard to think about tomorrow when you're struggling with today.

I never thought that at 25 I'd be worrying about things this basic. I thought I'd at least be able to take care of myself, have some stability and a little peace. Instead, I feel like I'm constantly trying to stay afloat while life keeps pulling me under.

I know there are people going through worse, and I'm grateful for what I do have, but that doesn't make this any less difficult. I just needed somewhere to be honest because keeping all of this inside has become too much.

I'm 25, failed matric, and want to become a statistical programmer. Is it too late to turn my life around?

Hi everyone,

I've been wanting to ask this for a long time because I've been feeling overwhelmed and I need some honest advice from people who may have been in a similar situation.

I'm 25 years old from South Africa, and I failed matric. It's one of the biggest regrets of my life, and for years I let it make me believe I wasn't smart enough. Seeing my friends graduate, get jobs, and move on with their lives while I stayed behind has been really difficult.

This year I finally decided that I don't want my past to define my future anymore. I'm rewriting my matric subjects so that I can improve my results and hopefully qualify for university. It's not easy. Sometimes I feel embarrassed because most people my age have already finished university or have established careers, while I'm only trying to get into university now.

The career I really want is to become a statistical programmer. I've been researching the field, and I genuinely find statistics, programming, clinical trials, and data analysis interesting. My dream is to work for a CRO or pharmaceutical company one day. I know the journey is long and that I'll probably need a degree, programming skills like SAS, R or Python, and a lot of hard work.

What scares me is my age.

If I start university at 26, I'll probably graduate around 29 or 30. By then, many people will already have years of work experience. I'm worried that employers will see my age and my late start as a disadvantage.

So I wanted to ask:

- Has anyone here gone back to school or university in their mid-to-late 20s?

- Did you struggle with feeling "behind" in life?

- Are there employers who care more about your skills than your age?

- If you were in my position, what would you focus on while preparing for university?

- Do you think becoming a statistical programmer is still a realistic goal, or am I aiming too high?

I'm not looking for sympathy. I just want honest advice and real experiences. If you were once in a similar situation and managed to build a successful career, I'd love to hear your story.
